Several images do appear to have a 'sharp' point. Given the added tidbit of history, looks to me as a zoom element has popped out of alignment and causes, in effect a bit of a tilt/shift to the focal plane.

Not exactly true. There were color processes in use in early 1860's, but it took about another full century for color to dominate the market.

May as well use the tool that works best for you, or seek out the 'influencers' that reinforce the answer you want. Just remember the Android folks will talk down to you about your phone/camera choice.

But it does, can, or should maybe, put the user in a different frame of mind when using.

One needs to remember not all hands or (human) bodies possess the same degree of steadiness, so the effective lower limits are a bit variable and should be tested by individuals, ideally in various stress positions likely encountered. ---------- Post added 03-15-24 at 10:18 AM ----------
In that vein, adding a toe loop to biz's string adds similar of tension/resistance when pulled against.

It's Buffalo in early April, they'll be happy if it doesn't snow a foot. But yes, thermal waves could be higher from a roof, or he could shoot from an edge over field and forest, little to no difference than shooting from the ground and could possibly, conditions pending, escape some ground based evaporative distortions. Best to have a back up or two. When we had our time in the darkened sun a few years back we played a variation of whack a mole with the fog ending up at site #3.

It's just a matter of having a strapping system that works and you'll use so that your gear doesn't meet the hard place between the rocks, whether it's around your neck, chest, or wrist. Supporting the lens and mono from the camera is more stressful than supporting the camera and mono from the lens.

There's a ton of mono pods out there that would suit (once you hit the $80+ range) you just need to determine the height, foot style, leg locks, and head type that works for your needs. It can be a real pain in the b..ack to find out you really wanted, needed, the 72" instead of he 61". You may already have a head you can use. I'd suggest getting and using a wrist strap or employing some other means to secure the camera.

The BenQ PD2725U has something to be said for it. I don't have, but have seen a couple at work in a Mac environment and the looked good. Without knowing your use needs and budget it's hard to say you might not be happy with one of the lower spec'd and priced Asus ProArts.

The beauty of obsidian is that if you break it just right it's very sharp. Most other blade materials require grinding, sharpening to not be blunt instruments. Of course one could say knapping is a chertified form of sharpening. For best reasons alloyed steels are chosen to make sharp stuff now by and large, but good luck knapping it though. Point being, until you learn how to get that edge, most things are blunt. Ansel's system relative to the time and material was cutting edge. What it never was and still isn't is the only cutting edge. If you keep to the studio/controlled lighting you can get by, more or less, just learning light rationing.

I'd argue it can translate well, after all it's just packaging system. Picker repackaged Ansel in attempt to make it more 'practical' or available to teach/learn in the classroom he was using and with the material choices du jour. It's easy to make 12 oz of water not fit in a 16oz glass. I think it was Clint Eastman that said, "a film user has to know it's limitations."

Does it really? While it could, I never worked once with a designer who'd allow that to pass in the orig shooting or printing, always wanting a product to match knowing it's usually downhill from there.

It's all about controlling the shadows and reflections. If you have more money than time I'd put some of it towards either studio LED or flash with proportional modeling lights. Being able to see the shadows as you make and move them can be very helpful. Would suggest getting 3 of the same units so you're working with the same controls. You should also invest in a way to measure/meter the light as well as stands to position them - TT will benefit greatly from boom arms. Also get some notebooks/journals with graph paper and learn the habit of sketching your setups noting the variables. You can also use annotated snaps from your smartphone, or combine both.

It's fantastic though that this could start a trend that camera makers glom onto - decorator cameras. "More than just a red dot, it's an Optio!" |
