I have the 18-55mm and the 55-300mm
Weight isn't an issue. I'm ok with either manual or auto focus.

I own a K30 and am looking to add new-to-me lenses to my gear.
On Marketplace there are a few options and I have no clue if they'll fit or work with my K30. Here's the list:

1. Pentax Asahi SMC-M 50mm 1:2

2. Pentax SMC DAL 50-200mm

3. Pentax SMC M 135mm f/3.5

4. Opticam Auto Teleconverter 2x Pentax

5. Minolta MD Rokkor 45mm 1:2 f/2

6. Pentax SMC Takumar 28mm f/3.5 (M42 or screw-mount lens)

7. Pentax SMC 35-105mm Macro AF Lens

8. Pentax - A SMC 50mm f/1.2

9. Pentax Takumar F 70-200mm FF

10. Takumar 55mm F/1.8 (m42)

11. Yamatar 35mm f/2.8 (nikon f)

12. Pentax - M 40mm f/2.8 pancake

13. Minolta MD Zoom 35-70mm f/3.5 2-touch lens

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you all.

K30 firmware update and aperture issues

I haven't did any updating with my camera since I bought it in Dec 2014. I've seen on here about a firmware update for the K30 and then some issues with the aperture ring or solenoid??? I also read about using the K50 firmware update on the K30. Would that cause any issues with the K30?

What is recommended?

Is it necessary to update the firmware for optimum performance or would I be risking my camera having issues due to the update?

Thanks.

Thank you everyone. I have done tons of research and have narrowed it down to Pentax HD DA 55-300mm F/4-5.8 ED WR or Pentax DA 50-200mm F/4-5.6 WR

I'm wondering which is the better of the 2. (I cannot afford the 50-135mm at the moment. Maybe one day. I've already decided on getting the 50mm f/1.8 to start. The 35mm will follow next year.)

Once I get one of the above mentioned lenses, will anything change with the camera and how it operates, ex.. zooming, auto focus, aperture settings, manual override...etc???

Thanks again.

Thank you all. Some of these look familiar from my own Google search... I was just wondering about personal experience. I appreciate it.

I'm looking at used Pentax lenses, but wondering what Canadian sites are reputable where you actually get what you bought.

Thanks for your input.

Family pictures and portraits

---------- Post added 10-30-20 at 02:30 PM ----------

Thank you. I've read the reviews, but I was still curious... money-wise they are about $100 in difference when buying used.

I do have a kit lens. 18-55mm

Thank you. I will try out the views

Neither right now. I'm only using 18-55mm kit lens. I understand they are different, but how different when it comes to the f stops and clarity... portraits... bokeh???

It'll be mostly closeups of kids, our walking trails, indoor photos...

Have a Pentax*K30*and love taking candid shots of kids from a distance. I'm looking for a zoom lens that takes sharp photos when zoomed.

Suggestions?

Edited to add: The kids I'm referring to are my 2 children, and my close neighbors children. The families know that I take pictures and it would be of all of our kids playing together.

K-30 alternate lenses and firmware update

Hi all. I have a Pentax K-30 with a 18-5mm kit lens. I have a few lenses I'm looking at and am wondering what your opinions are for each and what they are best used for. I am mostly interested in family/people CANDID shots for now. But I'm also looking at Prime lenses for better pics of my kids.

Also, I'm seeing that there is a firmware update. I have no clue how to update what I have... can someone shed some light on that for me?

Please and Thank you for both issues.
Here is a list of the lenses I have that I would get used from a Camera shop.

1. Pentax DA 50-200 4-5.6 WR

2. Pentax DA 50mm F1.8

3. Pentax AF 80-320 F4.5-5.6

4. Pentax MF SMC-A 50 F2

5. Pentax MF SMC-M 50 F1.7

These 2 are new on Amazon.ca:

1. Pentax-DA 22177 50mm F1.8

2. Pentax DA Lens L 50-200mm Interchangable for KAF3 cameras

I'm wondering what the DA, AF, MF, SMC-A and SMC-M all mean...

New to Pentax K30 with 18-55mm lens

I have been fooling around with the Pentax K30 lately, and to say I'm not tech savvy is an understatement. I'm always afraid that if I press something, then it will mess everything else up and I won't be able to get the settings back to what they were originally.
Anyway, I have a Pentax K30 with a 18-55mm lens and the other info is SMC Pentax DA

I am wondering what settings I should have it on for normal, every day shooting of my children both inside and outside. If there is a change, how do I do it with minimal thinking. LOL

Also, I'm figuring out that my favorite photography is candid shots. I like to be inconspicuous and not in the way when I'm taking photos and I like to capture true moments with families, children, interaction... both inside and outside. Nothing staged or posed.
What would be the best lens for that that would fit and work well with my camera? Would an additional flash be something to add to take better photos?

What is the AF/AE-L little button for?
What is the little button for, on the top right, with the green dot on it?
What should the little dial be set to on the left side - AF.S, C, or MF? What does all that mean?

I'm trying to go through the manual, but with all the referencing to different pages and camera language, I'm finding it hard to get it to make sense.

I like a lot of blur in the background as well... how would I achieve that without being right in the subjects face or close a particular object?

Sorry for so many questions... I have a book to write down all my acquired knowledge. :)
Thank you all so much!!!
