Thanks all, the eyecup I purchased solved the issue.
It does, however, push my eye back somewhat preventing me from viewing the entire frame - kinda have to move around a bit to see the entire frame. I find it an acceptable tradeoff.
I just finished my first roll of film - will see if any other issues arise.

Hey all,
Based on your feedback, I wanted to add that this was witnessed on a tripod and as my eye approached the viewfinder, the meter reading would change indicating less light was hitting the meter. Indicating about 1/2 stop of less light. As I moved my eye away, the meter reading would indicate more light.
As suggested, I purchased a new old/stock eyecup for Spotmatic/k1000 cameras. Also, I'm trying to find viewfinder cap.
I will offer my thoughts when the eyecup arrives.
Thanks again,
Patrick

Hey all,
I just purchase a like-new Asahi Pentax K1000, Honk Kong assembled, SN: 7645124. First film camera in 35 years. My original was a my father's Spotmatic.
I haven't finished my first roll yet. The light meter is effected by light entering the viewfinder. Is this normal for the k1000 or is this a viewfinder light seal issue?
Thanks,
Patrick
