Pentax K-70 and Skywatcher StarAdventurer (and derivatives)

What settings is the OP using in camera? I have the same gear, except I'm trying this cable:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/851851-REG/Beachtek_SC25_SC25_3_5mm_t...981&

As a test, the SA 2i App is set to 5 exposure seconds, 4 second interval, 10 exposures. When it runs, I get 10 second exposures, the 4 second interval works, it stops at 5 exposures total. I believe 10 seconds is the minimum in bulb mode on camera. Noise reduction on K-70 is off, using bulb mode, tried both bulb mode option 1 and 2, external input devices is set to cable release.

Hoping for some input from someone that has successfully used the SA 2i Wifi App and the K-70 or is familiar with signals and external cables. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see a drop and spill type service plan from Ricoh, like retailers offer. Do they offer that?

I almost missed that part. Page 5 of the Record Mode Menu shows the Memory option which has 3 pages of settings. Now, it works. Thanks!

K-70 Night Vision Setting - Make It Permanent?

When I set my K-70 to use night vision, it reverts back to the bright colored screen when I power off and on. Is there a way to make the night vision (red) setting stay? I found it cumbersome trying to reset it while at a dark skies park, don't want to be that annoying neighbor to others trying to observe the night sky. Thanks

I'd say the long lens would be something I would use at places I can drive to and have a short walk involved with a tripod. My other gear serves me well for my hiking and other on the go adventures.

The photos that made me consider a longer lens were large birds on the opposite side of a lake or animals in open fields that I could not approach. Close enough to see, but just not happy with the photos I was able to take. I don't believe the drive noise would be an issue for my intentions.

I read mostly about the doughnut issue with mirror lenses. If there is a good compromise, I'd be more than willing to consider one.

Thanks again for the reply.

Yes, tried putting the gear in my signature but it was grey. Changed that to be darker.

The tele-converter issue you mentioned is a concern. Wasn't sure if that route, though not perfect would still be better than a vintage lens?

I'll look at the links posted as well. Thanks

I've been on a spending spree getting back into the hobby, starting with the K-70 and three WR lenses. I think I have a good setup for my interests, which is landscape, nature, and wildlife. I have no illusions of making money from my photos, but enjoy the stress relief of getting outside and the creative aspect of photography. I have found that there are just some shots that I need a longer focal length for. I'd be willing to throw in for one more lens to capture that eagle that won't move any closer or that elk I'm not risking getting any closer to.

Vintage is fine and I have done some reading on 500mm and 600mm lenses, but find myself more confused. If weather sealing and autofocus was not a requirement and you had $300 today, what lens would you look to add? What lens would you enjoy if you wait to spend $600 maximum? Would you choose a vintage lens over a tele-converter for the 55-300mm PLM lens? Thanks for your input.

Multi-Exposure With Remote

Taking some waterfall photos and experimenting with soft looking water. In the drive menu, I select Multi-Exposure - Remote Control and set composite mode to Average and number of shots to 0020. I have to click the remote 20 times for this to work, which it does quite nicely. However, is there a way to do the same averaging in camera and only have to click once to start the process? Thanks

New K-70 user. I do not have the Pentax GPS Unit O-GPS1. When I transfer a photo to my phone after I arrive home, it shows where I took that photo. I tried to find a setting in the K-70 menu but did not see one. Happy to have that information, but wasn't expecting it without built-in GPS. If anyone can explain, I'd appreciate clearing up my confusion. Thanks
