I am also on a different photography forum than this one and there I seldom see any Pentax gear for sale. There is a significant number of Pentaxians on that forum but not many offers of or requests to buy Pentax gear. That indicates a very sincere fidelity of us to the brand. I also note that most Pentaxians are loyal but without being obnoxious about it.

Working from home in sitting on the deck with my laptop yesterday and I'm watching this chipmunk take trips across my deck to the garden and back and forth all morning. He was waiting for the birds to get out of the birdbath so he could get a drink when I shot this with a K10d and Sigma 135-400nm. |

This is fun. I started digging up some oldies from my K200D days to share. That was my first DSLR. Before that I had a Canon point and shoot, and wanting to get more into photography had put CHDK on it to allow manual controls, so I knew a little going in. Still, I contribute much of my learning to the K200D. Certainly carried it with me most everywhere for all my teenage years and then some.
All on the K200D and kit 18-55 lens.
I guess I was on a panorama kick for a while.
I see I didn't know how to edit dust out of the photos back then ;)
Brings back fond memories of summer.
Dramatic skies common in Missouri. I miss those. |

Not too many people shoot them anymore, as no one's making them at this point... but the CCD sensor cameras have a loyal following (some would say obsession) from its fans (crazy? luddites?).
If you love the images you get from your CCD sensor camera, be it a tiny point and shoot or a giant sensor 645D or even a full medium format back, post here and wax poetic about the virtues of a technology that was replaced by a lower cost, video-friendly alternative (CMOS)...

And here's the same combination with a 2.5second exposure. The CCD sensor is great for capturing luminance in tricky conditions, I find... in a way that seems similar to slide film. Evening Boats in Ponce Inlet FL by Christian Schulze, on Flickr

After giving second thought, I do agree this thread might be useful as information (or maybe a warning) for any future potential customers who want to buy from digiDirect online website.
Thank you.

Top LCDs were one of the features that drew me to Pentax in the first place, with the K200D being to only camera in it's class to have one (the K200D was the only camera in it's class to have several things, which made it great value).
I find it very useful and have upgraded to a K-3 and would not change DSLR to something that didn't have one. One of the main reasons the KP is not a flagship model is it's lack of this feature (with the others being the lower capacity battery, max 1/6000s mechanical shutter speed).
It's a shame the lower models don't have one but the truth is that even without it they're good value, so Pentax don't need it to sell cameras (except to me).

LOL!
Clearly the new mirrorless cameras from Canon and Nikon are eating Apple's, Samsung's, Huaweis' lunch! (not!) ;)
Welcome to the world of rapidly maturing technology. Smartphones plateaued last year, MILCs will probably plateau next year.
The only effect that slumping smartphone sales will have on camera sales is that the people that decide to put off the next phone upgrade will use that money for other hobbies like photography.
P.S. There really isn't competition between smartphones and "real cameras" except in the most superficial way. A smartphone can replace a "real camera" the same way a sedan can replace a tractor-trailer truck. Sure, 98-99% of the people are satisfied with hauling themselves and their stuff in a sedan. A sedan and smartphone really are good enough for most. But the 1-2% of the population who are pros and enthusiasts are not satisfies with the most popular option and never will be.

If there is such a thread honoring and admiring the K-7, I've not seen it around. The K10D (which I loved the heck out of for a good long while) gets its CCD loving tribe, and the K5 variants and thereafter have their own subs..... But the flagship model that started the body style and design sensibilities seems to have become a bit of a redheaded stepchild. :)
If there is not an admiration thread for the K-7, I'll consider this a start. Truth is that I adored this camera when I first got it. In years prior I'd shot a couple of Fuji digicams, then the K100D Super and K10D... The K-7 was everything I wanted at the time, and I still consider a huge number of photos taken with it some of my best. My copy also traveled around the globe with me, complimented by only a single M 50/1.4 and I had a Rioch GRDIII along for the ride as well for its pocketable, travel-friendly, compact/wide-angle goodness. But the K-7 was abused. When I returned it was in rough shape. The stabilzation was in need of repair so I had it turned off entirely. I'd slammed the body into some rocks several times and the left strap lug came loose and broke off inside - so I simply sealed the hole with silcone hahaha. But all the while the dang thing just kept taking amazing photos. I'm actually a little sad I sold it and to-date, it was the camera I bonded with most as far as digital bodies go (film shooters are another story entirely)... The thing was a sleek, rather compact weather-sealed monster to me and I loved the hell out of it.
I mused over this tonight because I came across a series of shots that were intended for a composite that I took on Cuba Street in Wellington on late New Zealand autumn afternoon... and just this morning I re-discovered them realizing I'd never stitched them so I pulled them out of the archives and did so. It's 7 years later and turned out pretty nice. Fun to get a nice "new" shot from those 2010-2011 years... The K-7 was a companion through it all. wait by Kevin Rosinbum (Eyewanders Foto), on Flickr

Here are mine, they're oldies. 1. Boat fishing on the Westerschelde, 2. Seeds of the Impatiens glandulifera, 3. Storm coming in.
The Supra DC 8600 belonged to my hubby. I hope it's allowed for this competition, if not just let me know and I'll put in another photo.
