On one hand, some things were forgotten - probably the reasons to some design decisions (e.g. the complication of that winding mechanism).
On the other hand, other things that we DO have to day, were not even dreamed of back then.
If Ricoh can combine the two, they may have a winner.

I have the 17-28 in a K1 and can only praise it. Will try to post a picture of what's available with it.
Time Pentax released a modern version of it.

Really.
I live in Israel. No Pentax distributor as far as I can see (there is a Ricoh distributor, but he doesnot handle Pentax). Store that advertise Pentax gear, but it's old stock and mostly just simply not exists.
My k1ii was bought from Amazon USA, 70-210 from Amazon France. The most important thing for me with Amazon (compared to B&H and others) is that the price I'm paying include not only shipping&handling but also all taxes.

What *I* want to see in the K1iii is the end of SAFOX. PDAF is s dead end. Sensor based detection is the future.
And we already has the start of this in the rgb sensor and the way it is used for af assistance in the K3iii.
Time to move forward, discard PDAF and do something like CANON's Dual Pixel AF, based on an improved rgb sensor.
This way we will also get a brighter viewfinder since no light needs to be transmitted to the PDAF system without a need for a K3iii type prism. The whole PDAF mechanism will be gone - size and cost savings. And more.
That's the main thing in my opinion.
Ofcourse a new sensor - no need for a huge jump in resolution, just a current one with a future.
And ofcourse the K3iii new hardware.
And hopefully faster cards.
But mainly, let's move the AF system to the future.

The 31 LTD is fully compatible with your cameras. Seems the lens has a problem (assuming other lenses work with no issues with yor cameras).
Is it new or second hand?

And then - why should I stay with Pentax and not move to any other L-mount manufacturer (not that there are that many ....)?
What will be Pentax advantages over Panasonic once they are L-mount ? Especially considering Pentax has zero experience with modern mirror less technology. Add that to a new mount .....
A Pentax adapter to another mount will, in my opinion, kill Pentax. If they think they should go mirror less it should be with the K mount or a new, specially designed propriety mount for the new bodies, with a Pentax converter from K to mlK (mirror less K :-) ).
They have the time to develop such a mount during the time it will take them to design a really good (otherwise why bother) mirror less camera.

We are not yet at "peak DSLR" with the K3-3. At least the AF can be vastly improved - use the RGBir sensor for contrast detect (and let the user choose which to use, or just drop the phase detect module altogether).
Hope that's what we will get in the K1-3.

Another review with the same conclusions :
Good news about the camera itself.
Not so good news for Ricoh/Pentax
All the reviews I've seen so far ends with - more or less - this conclusion :
Great camera for Pentaxians, but if you're not one of them, there are better options.
The problem for Ricoh is not how many Pentaxians will buy that camera - we are a dying race. The problem is getting new blood into the K mount.

I'm sure of it. They will solve the dilemma for some of us when the k1-iii comes around with all the expected k1 features, the expected k3-iii features and the not expected k1-iii features at a price of 2,500-3000 USD.
At least I have no dilemma. I'm saving my pennies for the k1-iii.

A friend was flying his electric model plane today, so I took the 70-210 (at 210), used TAv (1000/8), AFC, selM, single frame shooting and hoped for the best.
Was nicely surprised. Almost all were keepers.
