K10D durability in pro conditions = fail

You want pro conditions? My Pentax K10D has gone through trekking in the mountains and rapids of Kinanbalu, survived a 8 hour trek in the rain with me, and survived really well even even in the extremely wet rain forest of Taman Negara.

And it's still working fine.

Tokina 80-400mm vs. Sigma 135-400mm

The prices for the Tokina 80-400mm are going at insane rates at the moment on eBay... Why is Tokina being so stubborn on this? Or is Pentax stopping them? I want an ATX-D 80-400mm!

AF options for 300mm f/4.0?

I had the choice between a Sigma 100-300mm and Pentax 300mm F4.5, after handling the 300mm F4.5, I decided on it. Why did I do that? The Sigma was too godamn heavy to carry around practically for my case.

But the lens is available on the Pentax mount? There are many people who own the Pentax mount of the Sigma 18-200mm here.

In my eyes the dirty/scratchy effect adds nothing to the photo. Nice photo though.

Experience with HOYA PRO 1 DIGITAL Filters?

You guys are underestimating the Pro1 filters. After putting them under some controlled tests, the Pro1 filters allowed almost 99.8% of light through. A lot of cheaper filters exhibit a yellow cast when used under strong light, but there is zero signs of any color cast with it.

It's good, and it's cost effective.

There's a reason why Sandisk Extreme III cards are so costly.

They are FAST. I used my Extreme III today and the DNG RAWs were written from shot to card within THREE blinks! It seems like Pentax K10D does support insanely fast cards.

Been snooping around various forums...

And... I was trying to find at least 100 people who converted from X brand to Pentax. Here are my findings:

Unfortunately I could not find 100 people, but I managed to find 20.

9 came from Canon camp
3 came from Nikon camp
2 came from Sigma camp
3 came from Olympus camp
3 came from Sony/Minolta camp

So is it just me or is there something wrong with my results? I just went around and looked out for posts with people who were from other mounts!

Anyone with comments on the Pentax F 35-135mm lens?

I found someone selling it, the aperture seems pretty good since it's 3.5-4.5 and it sounds like a good walkaround lens. There seems to be no information on this lens on the net though...

Anyone with any comments?

I have the Extreme 3 USB card reader along with the Sandisk Extreme 3 SD card. 2GB of data transferred from the card to my computer only took minutes. That's probably why it's called Extreme!

Scrap your idea on the 28-70. It is uber expensive right now, so consider the tamron 28-75mm. F2.8 and much cheaper.

Pentax 100-300mm and 75-300mm

I would recommend none of those lenses in your list, and Mo's list. Get the Tamron 70-300mm LD Di version because it is so much sharper than any of Pentax's budget zoom lens at the moment.

Yes, PF exists on the Tamron but it can corrected with Photoshop easily.

Is making middle end consumer lenses crappy a common thing?

It's not really fair to slot Olympus in the lot because they are still really new in the DSLR arena. But yeah, Olympus kit lenses are pretty impressive for its price and size. They definitely have a lens for everyone, from a nice wide 7-14mm to their really impressive 90-250mm lens!

Sony basically took over Minolta's technology so they are included in the mix with Canon and Nikon.
