Ok here are some examples of my bleach bypass stuff. I live only 20 miles from Montezuma Castle here in Arizona so took a trip there and shot these with bleach bypas. A bit of touch up but not much.................Dougie

Hello. Nothing radically critical her just a couple of thoughts. I have several lenses for my K-3 and K-5 such as 288mm-90mm, 18mm-270mm and some others but I have found that in actuality my kit lenses do perform quite well. My Pentax 18mm-55mm takes very nice sharp photos and my Pentax 50mm-200mm does the same. Oh I suppose a person can buy super-duper expensive lenses that cost through the roof and perform magnificently and far surpass my kit lenses but I think my do an Ok job. another thing and I don't know how many of you do this but I like to use exposure compensation with three shots, above-correct- and over exposed. It gives me a choice of light and dark. When I used to shoot my 35mm Nikon I always shot by stopping down one f-stop to darken my shots as I found that right on or correct exposure was to bright and seemingly over exposed for me. Just some thoughts..............Dougie

Hello everyone. I went to a gymkhana at Jackpot Ranch for young people this last Saturday with some new and wonderful friends, Dale and Jeri Spude, to watch their grandchildren compete in the events. It was a great time and the kids were totally having fun. It is nice to see good wholesome activities for young people sharing with Mom and Dad and their families. This is a photo I took of a horse just hanging out with its owner/rider and it seemed like it wanted to do something because there were horses all around and he felt left out. A bit of a departure from my normal stuff but I thought you might like it.

Here is a little something from the "burbs" of Cornville, Arizona. At the end of Tissaw Road where Oak Creek meets the Verde. If you are wondering, no I did not sit in a blind for two weeks to get this shot or the picture of the coyote. I thought the coyote was a nice touch and I always like a subject in my work and one of our locals and native critter seemed like a good fella. We do not always see these guys but we can hear them so they are around and indeed local. I plan on continuing my documenting our lovely area in paint and photos so at Least I can remember and hopefully all of us. I hope you like this and have a wonderful Sunday in our little slice of Arizona.

Not intended to be hurtful or demeaning. I just am not a complainer. I have an old friend who complained all the time. I challenged her to go one day without complaining. I saw her at the end of the next day and asked her if she did it. She said yes and that she had the best day she had ever had. And with regard to all the lenses I really don't think I would want to toss all of those into the trunk of my car when going on a short local shooting tour. Oh yes and by the way I am 78 and walk with a walking stick but still carry both my K-3 and K-5. I apologize for being so harsh and will not do it again. Have a lovely Pentaxian day....................D

Couple of riders near my house and towards the Verde River here in the Verde Valley, Arizona. Nice morning to head into the desert and happen to come along these two people enjoying the morning and nice 55 degree weather........It is interesting how cleaning my sensor and lens, front and back, how much sharper and clearer and more vibrant my photos are. Golly gosh, who would have guessed

I was just wondering how many of us out here in "forum land" have a good sense of humor? I recently observed that the more still or rigid I held my camera or used a tripod the sharper and clearer my photos have become.

Here is a wildlife shot from my backyard. I had just taken my daughters doggie out for a break and there on the fairway, I live on a golf course, were about 7 or 8 javelina running around with their babies and foraging in the sunshine. I figured they were escapees from the "fat farm".

Hi there. A lonely abandoned farmstead dwelling in Golden Valley County, North Dakota. It is an old photo taken with my ist-dl and can't remember settings or lens.....2007 0r 2009. It is obviously an old photo but for a long time I have been threatening to either paint it or do some PS with it and PS won out...........................Love.........Douglas

This ophoto was taken at "Out of Africa" a wild animal park in the Verde Valley, Arizona. We were in the "Serengeti" part of the park filled with zebras, antelope and giraffes and such and this raven was a visitor as well on an old dead tree branch.

Ok guys here is the scoop. It is 110 degrees today and I just got back from Walmart. I took my trusty K-5 along for the ride and got a few cloud pics and then parked in the sunbaked parking lot at Walmart. I grabbed little old k-5 and went into the "air-conditioned" Walmart and place k-5 in cart so he was comfortable. We did our shopping, slowly because it was air-conditioned. Proceeded thru checkout and into the parking lot and my awaiting Bravada. We drove home and upon arriving I immediately placed my pampered pet k-5 on the bed to relax. He enjoyed the safe and comfy/cool trip.

I have both a k-5 and a k-3 and have found that my k-5, even though it is 8mp less than the k-3, has been producing outstanding shots. I have invested in a wide-carriage printer and printing 11x14's in black and white and the detail I am getting from my k-5 shots is outstanding. I recently was trying to decide on getting a 55mm - 300mm or an 18mm - 270mm and ended up getting the 18-270. It truly is a great lens to use and the results are great. It is not PLM but the AF is both quiet and fast. Some have mentioned the lens sliding out to full tele when held with the lens focus to the ground. I have not had that problem so maybe I am lucky. My k-3 I have been using a Pentax 28mm - 90mm, older bought on eBay for $20 and it is doing fine. I have no idea how old it is but it is silver.
Why am I writing all this? I don't really know but perhaps just expressing my personal enjoyment with my Pentax equipment and will do so for sometime to come or my shutter count goes through the roof and then replace with a shutter count that has been in a trunk or in the attic. The attached photo was shot with my k-5 and the 18-270. My prints are better than on the internet. douglas peterson - Work Zoom: Clarkdale, Arizona Plaza |

I have just been trying bleach bypass and wow. I just ran the contrast all the way to the right and the sharpness all the way to the right and I am getting some stunning results. The colors seem to be more to my liking and are a bit more real than say bright or natural or landscape and such. I am really having fun.............Douglas

Ok here is my submittal to the contest. I have done absolutely nothing to the photograph. I have PS and Lightroom but this pic has not seen either. It is straight from the machine. this was shot at my ex-brother-in-laws horseback trail riding concession at Deadhorse State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona. I used my Pentax k-5 with SMC Pentax 28mm-90mm f3.5-6.3, and the exposure is f11.0 at 1/1500, ISO 800 and 45mm on the lens. I will work on it later but for this contest I am doing a purist thing and this is the photo as shot.

This was shot at my ex-brother-in-laws horse-riding concession at Deadhorse State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona. I also toured around and got some shots of people fishing in the lakes and some ducks and trees and stuff. I bought the lens on eBay for $20.00 and it does not and has not disappointed. I have not touched the photo with either PS or Lightroom. It is straight out of the camera. Nice day..................Douglas

Ok here is a photo taken 4-17-2021, today, of the Sedona, Arizona "Wetlands". Actually the wetlands are the treatment facility settling ponds and are a great place for bird sightings. Today they were cleaning the overgrowth so no birds but I did get this shot of a person operating a "reed removal machine". It was shot with a K-3 and 18mm - 270mm lens set at 31mm....................Douglas N.
