We're doomed. Except for the quadzillion lenses out there that will be useful long after you and me are long dead. Just bought a Tamron 17-35 for a K1-II, works well. Also a Tamron 70 -200 for the same body.
But far worse, bought a Pentax FA 135 2.8 that hasn't been made been made in 21 years! Pentax no longer makes a Full Fame 135 2.8! We're doomed!
And my 14 year old 28-75? It works but we're DOOMED!

Why not see it as an opportunity to learn about and understand light? Most cameras owners don't.

Had no idea, didn't research the history, just my experience. I use as PS/CC plugin. Open PSD in it, scale and return to PS/CC with newly sized PSD.
Then make JPEG Print files from that. I've zero experience with the other file formats you mentioned. Works for me.

Been using ON1 Perfect Resize nee "Genuine Fractals" for 10 years. Long ago, I read they convert Bit Map Image to Vector, scale (up or down) and convert back to Bit Map. It works pretty good.
Can use stand alone, so not "locked in to Adobe". And while Pixel Shift is very cool, stuff that moves is a problem.

What he said, put JPEGS on USB and plug into TV. It'll look just fine, as good as your TV can make it look. Just size the JPEGS for your TV resolution.

A used DA* 50-135 from a reputable source ( KEH Map Camera ) and keep the rest of the money
On APS-C, it's a great portrait lens. Clients have paid for mine many times over. Mine's been in constant use since buying new from B&H in 2009.
Small and light enough to handhold

Added a K1-II to pair of K3-II's because and in order of importance:
1. Easy Tethering with CC. My old solution of K5IIs and PK Tether was limiting and fussy.
2. 300K Rated Shutter. The above mentioned K5IIs was sold with 146K on shutter. Current K3IIs have about 100 K each.
3. Better low light, high ISO performance with f4 long zoom and fast shutter speeds.
The extra resolution is nice and sometimes helpful but not a deal maker. Tethering was the deal maker. If available, for K3II, I'd have just bought Image Transmitter, skipped the K1-II and kept the difference in the bank until I wore out a K3II and replaced with K3-III.

So why must ALL software read files? Why isn't some software okay?
I think, as others have pointed out, you have a solution looking for a problem:D

A.Storage is really cheap -Which begs B: Why?
VS needing more pixels for a REALLY big print so like using On1 Perfect Resize nee Genuine Fractals which takes a Bit Map, converts to raster (a la PDF), scales up and converts back to a Bit Map. Been using that forever for poster prints. The up sized PSD is converted to JPEG for printing but its 1:1. But unlike a copy of a copy of a copy (the movie "Multiplicity"), it doesn't degrade. Of course, I could be completely wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong .

You answered your own question. Lose the wide cotton strap, overkill. Find something maybe an inch wide with non skid rubber underneath. Carry a smaller, lighter lens, like a Tamron 17-50. Don't worry about breaking stuff - your kids will break before your gear.

Maybe we'll have to join up with the Daguerreotype folks. Yep, people still make them. Oh wait - that's a "Mirror With A Memory" - they're not Mirrorless either! We're doomed!

Why not just take them out periodically and use them? Or is that too much trouble? If you are not going to use them, sell them. They are few things more pathetic than children dealing with their parents stuff.

"...expensive photo safari to Yellowstone in winter looking for wolves after recently purchasing two brand new expensive Pentax zoom lenses.. "
Maybe the issue is not understanding the limitation of cameras exposing for reflected light and White Balance. Which explains why every camera mfr. adds to their expense, an Exposure Compensation (+/-) button and the ability to select pre programmed White Balance or create a Custom White Balance. So if the little man in the camera isn't getting it done (which often happens), record in DNG and then you can control the color to your liking. Yes, it is an extra few steps, same as reverse searing a steak. But like the steak, well worth it.

If your shutter speed is fast enough, just turn SR off. Especially for sports, using rear AF and tracking with AF-C in Manual. Simple.

Why? Histogram and Instant Review give you real time feedback on exposure. So Manual is easy. With AE-L, you can change position and the exposure changes and you're stuck with that.

Really never thought about it. Just used the cameras. Zero experience with other brands except for picking up a few demo bodies in stores.
Lots of experience with my lack of good technique though.
