I contacted Ricoh Europe (they have a similar offer: PENTAX KP Silver + smc DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR for £766 - but 'out of stock') on 18 Jan. Said they'd get back in 2 days - still waiting. Will post when/if I get an answer.

I agree - professional and reliable UK supplier. That's a v good deal given they now advertise the body at £999. Well worth the wait though - excellent camera.

Where have they all come from? That's all I've used/seen in the last 60+ years. Seems to go with the territory (S. London) - just like nail bars being run by orientals (before you ask - I don't use those!)

I've only recently started using it - so far so good. But at the moment my position on the learning cycle is "not knowing what you don't know " (aka "unconscious incompetence" and I'm trying to climb several learning curves at moment). As I don't use the Adobe suite I don't have access to Lr, etc. So wondering if, at some point, I might want to consider another RAW processor ....

Yes, I shoot in RAW and process in Affinity (I've just started another thread on RAW processing).
You're right about colour management - particularly what's best, what's really necessary and some why it isn't depending on the display medium.
Digital seems so much more involved although it does give you more control - if you want it. And that's the value of the forum - you can ask those that have been there and done it.

Hi All,
for those that use processing software that have in built RAW processors like Affinity or Photoshop - do you find 3rd party RAW processors (ON1, RawTherapee, etc) more useful in your workflow? I currently process my raw files in Affinity Photo's Develop persona.

Hello folks - yet another question on monitors:
After getting back into photography with the KP and having got lenses to cover the 10-450mm range including macro I need to upgrade to a decent monitor (and printer, probably A3 – but that’s for another post).
I currently use a MacBookPro 16” (2019) running Catalina with the basic in-built graphics processor (AMD Raytheon 4GB + Intel UHD 1536MB). Processing is via the Affinity suite. I’m purely amateur and primarily want to print my best pics and am unlikely to sell any (though some might end up on a website or 3). Like many DIY’ers I want to get the best from my efforts within a reasonable cost.
I’ve read through some recent forum posts on the topic: 1 extolling virtues of the Eizo CS2420 and another mentioning Viewscan (and others) while both offering some excellent general advice.
So I’ve narrowed my choice down to the Eizo CS2420 and the Viewscan 2768 4k. Both appear to be excellent monitors with expert & user reviews supporting this.
The Eizo is 24” (res 1920x1200), can switch between aRGB (99%) and sRGB (100%) and costs around £540. (27” version is £835, 27” 4k = £1400).
The Viewscan is 27” with 4k (res 3840x2160), sRGB (100%) and costs about £500 – it can also be easily turned from landscape to portrait (though that seems like just icing on the cake, at least for my needs). The aRGB version costs £735.
I’ll also be purchasing a calibrator – probably the Xrite iDisplay “Pro” (£158 - £23 more than the “Display” model but twice as fast) and pairing with DisplayCal software.
I asked a well known UK photoshop (Wex) for their views and the response was “get the Viewsonic – because it’s bigger”. That argument alone isn’t enough to sway me – at least without qualification – as they say “size isn’t everything” (in 1 blog on choosing a monitor)
I’m ever so slightly leaning towards the Eizo because of its aRGB capabilities and this article on colour space but I’d appreciate views/comments/suggestions from more experienced forum members before I take the plunge.

It used to be the 16-85WR when I went out and about a lot with the KP. But with an increasing lens collection it's whatever was last used (except for the 150-450) - right now it's the DFA 2.8 100mm Macro WR.

I'm going to give this a go with my lenses which includes a DFA 2.8 Macro100mm that I use mainly for macro. So question is: will it be better to calibrate it in macro mode or leave at 100mm?

I've still got my KX and an ME Super, with winder. Bought another (used) ME Super + 50mm lens about 15 years ago from an 'old' camera shop (now long gone) near to where I worked in London for £80 - gave to a friend who wanted to get into film photography. Also have compacts: Zoom 90 and 105 Super that got used a lot when out with my boys in their younger days - very useful for point and shoot when on the move.
My ME has some issues but the KX still works perfectly (bought a couple of rolls of Ilford HP5 Plus recently to use in it when I get the chance).
Like most of us, I suspect, I wouldn't part with them. I also have some other very old models: a Russian 'Kiev' (heavy for a small 35mm film camera) and 2x 120 cameras that I used in my v young days: a Brownie model C and a Microflex.

Not been able to get out lately, hence 1 from the garden in June - it's a seed head from a dandelion like flower called Goatsbeard. It grow to about 3 ft. KP DFA100mm Macro.

I've been using the 8200i with the Silverfast "Ai Studio" software for a few years on a MacBook Pro (now a MBP 16) - slowly transferring all my 35mm slides and b/w + colour negs. Most of which are 20-40 years old. I'm v happy with it.
Only issue I had when I started is that the user manual isn't the best so you really have to go through the on-line guides.
Other thing to watch out for is the default dust control setting that samples surrounding pixels to correct the dust/scratches - it seems to get confused with high contrast areas - you can sometimes get something that doesn't look great (pixelated). I've corrected that by turning down the sensitivity.
I've got customised settings/templates for Slide, B&W & negs - and you have drop down menus for film manufacturer & type plus all of the other options.
The software is very good and has some features that replicate some basic ones found in photoprocessing software. I don't use these (apart from cropping) as I have Affinity Photo should I need to make adjustments. And the main 1 I use in AP is taking care of any residual scratches/dust particles which, again, I really only use with my best photos that may get enlarged/printed.
I'm still using it (lots of negs still to go - mainly family now). Find it takes me about an hour to scan 24 negs - ok for a retiree in winter.
I'm on software version 8.x.xx which had free upgrades - I notice v9 is now out but I think you've got to pay to upgrade to that.
Patience and perseverance is the key when you are starting out with this (admittedly not my best attributes with new software)
