Fujifilm GF 20-35mm f4 R WR Lens | Wex Photo Video
£2349
A lot less, and a lot wider than a Pentax 28-45. And designed around 100mp bodies.
To me, this is the nail in the coffin for digital Pentax MF stuff. They just haven't released newer versions to match their current digital line up.

I have that worry too, the Pentax 28-45 is like that.

I was dismayed by the images I was sent from one using the 32-64 - I have seen better examples of that lens though but to me it was subpar.
The 100-200, 45-100 and soon to be 20-35 would see me covered. Something a little longer than 200 on the long end would be nice, but with careful composition, crops and aspect ratio's I could make the system work as well as the 645z/D850 system I run now.
My processing is ALL done within DXO PhotoLab 4. Quick sharpen, curves adjustment, sensor spot removal, saturation etc. I do suprisingly little to the files.
Build/durability - who knows but everyone on here who has them rates them, and on the UK forums I rarely here a bad word about them. The only two worrying things were the shutter issue (I believe fixed on the GFX100s) and the tripod base snapping (again, is that really common).

Great shot, terrific as always. Saddened to hear it overheated.
You'll shift the covid in no times. The latest variant is nothing like the original strain in potency.
Are you seeing any PDAF striping or banding at all?
I can only see it being a matter of time before I succumb to the 100mp body

Yes - but in years to come as these DSLR's die - that'll change.
I was at a Nikon repair centre in the UK - not naming which one, and over the course of a conversation with another customer I heard that "Nikon won't supply new shutter units for D800 and D810" cameras. The D810 was still onsale in 2017. So - this tells us that parts/repairs on relatively recent top end cameras can no longer be actioned - and thus when it fails, you'll have very little choice left for DSLRs
I think this is a shame, but you can see the direction of change.
I called into a major UK retailer yesterday and all the cameras on display bar the D850 were mirrorless. The guy conceded the D850 was "the one" in the shop to buy but the big push from Canon/Nikon is mirrorless.
Pentax badly need to update the K1 to 45 or 60mp, and offer more than rebranded tamron zooms to really increase market share. The 645z is now being undercut by Fuji - and again Pentax have relied on a back catalogue of older lenses rather than newer ones to fully utilise what is actually the best DSLR body you can buy.

Just had some sample RAWs sent to me from a 50sII and 100-200
Very very impressive lens to be honest. Extremely sharp wide open and even good in the corners too. In several classes above the Pentax 80-160 and as good as any 35mm 70-200 F2.8. A lens you could really rely on.
I will buy a 100s probably funds allowing with this lens and the 45-100.

That really is the lens for that system, that and the 45-100 and 100-200 would see landscape shooters pretty golden field of view wise.

How were the images - centre to edge sharpness. I was dismayed by a copy of the 32-64 in this regard. Lens wise for the Fuji the 45-100 and 100-200 are musts. A 100-200 F5.6 probably is a relatively simple optical formula as it's such a slow lens - but at the end of the day for landscapers who want a bit of reach it is probably the answer - and with the present discounts substancially cheaper than a 70-200 2.8 on a 35mm system. I can see why you are tempted.
I still have misgivings over the Fuji system but maybe when the 100s II comes out I will waver.

Some of the adapters can allow AF and even electronic aperture control.
My only experience of native Fuji lens to the GF was an image taken by another shooter who sent on the sample, terrible corner sharpness. Worse than these amateaur plastic fantastic entry level tamron super zoom cheapo things. But I know of many people adapting Canon EF glass, even Nikon F glass and other lenses to these cameras.

I lightly scratched a D800 - they are fragile things these sensors and it isn't a task I relish. I've tried with the Z myself using the bigger MF swabs but I find it tricky to do well. The D850 is easier, but the A J Johnson in Glasgow get it perfect every time.

The longer the FL on the 35mm lens - probably the more useful it will be on the medium format. There's folk adapting big Nikon F and Canon L tele's on these things and getting good results.

I love the 645z - and you can shoot vistas in the UK - all but one of these are from my home turf _IMG0796 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG0184 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG3259_DxO by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG1425 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG0053 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG0960 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr _IMG0653 by Stephen Taylor, on Flickr
I use mine extensively for 2 years as a main camera.
I do have some misgivings. Cost being one. I also a run a D850 which is near as dammit as close IQ and DR wise. The other one, and you aluded to it earlier in the thread is sensor dirt.
The camera is a pain in the backside to clean yourself, the sensor is very deeply recessed and hard to reach and you cannot get a great swipe with a swab. I've tried and not had so much luck. Most "professional" cleaners cite the same concern and getting a professional to clean it properly was tricky. Fixation refused to clean mine, Ffordes had a hell of a job getting it cleaned but in the end managed, Peartree in London charge £160 as they take the camera apart to clean. A J Johnson in Glasgow did it and did an ok job, but left a couple of spots. When A J Johnson clean the 35mm format cameras, they leave without any spots. I've used them for years, the guy explained why cleaning it was so tricky and it's due to the recessed sensor making a swipe harder to achieve. I've tried, I know what they mean.
Most of the lens aren't weather sealed which adds to the issue of dust being sucked down the lens barrel into the sensor. The 28-45 is well sealed, but my 45-85 and 80-160 are a nightmare for it. My 35mm format 24-70 and 70-200 which are sealed are a fair bit better in this regard. Only the 28-45 is the well sealed lens. No experience of the primes.
As a camera body though I rate it highly, but a detachable back system to give easier access to the sensor would be perfect.

It is - but the distance from lens mount to sensor makes it unsuitable for the 645 mount.
Shame really. There's also a 20mm lens too.

Those were done with a vertical movement by hand. Think about where you want the picture to start, and end and move between the two points during exposure. It's an iterative process.

ICM's are easy - use a shutter speed between 1/2 to 2secs for woodland and move the camera by hand. Experiment and play.

Multiple exposure is a feature on Nikon camera's - I was dabbling with ICM and it was a Nikon user that told me about it.

They don't use micro lenses on top the sensor. The plus is that keeps the Fuji sensor clearer of visible sensor dust than the Pentax - the downside is slight image softening.

True
My worry comes from reliability. A photographer who I trust immensely cited concerns about one he was loaned.
De centred lenses came up and the fact the camera would give repeated error messages with lenses attached. He said it was so worrisome he had to keep his Canon R series stuff with him as half the time the camera wouldn't respond. This was a GFX100.
There's reported issues of shutter failures and tripod mounts failing on GFX100s bodies - and probably will be on the 50sII. The original 50s, 50r and 100 use a different shutter and more robust chassis. They've been cost cutting.
I alas don't see the 645z line being continued - it's long over due more modern 45-85 and 80-160 zooms (akin to the GF zooms) with weather sealing etc. Like the 55, 28-45 and 90.
