There are actually many factors that affect speed.
In addition to cache reading and writing, it also includes the processor and image engine.
As the number of pixels and continuous shooting speed increase, digital cameras need to process larger and larger data streams.
Generally speaking, as long as the saved file format contains jpg, then the camera will have an additional process of processing raw into jpg. As the data flow increases, the processing flow becomes more demanding on the processor and graphics engine.
In addition, given that Pentax’s raw processing has become more and more complex in recent years, even if you only shoot raw, you will obviously be affected by the increase in data flow.

IMX094 is 36MP, 5fps
IMX271 is 26MP, about 11fps
However, IMX455 is 61MP, 10fps
Even as powerful as Sony, the processing speed of A7R4 and A7R5 is mediocre.
Due to the weak performance of FPL, continuous shooting and single photo playback of FPL are a disaster.
It is possible that the S1R2 and SL3 will be the best performing cameras using 61MP cmos.
If Pentax wants to use this CMOS and perform well, it will need to put in far more effort than the K3III.

Actually, I think I should have expressed a similar point, CMOS supply has never been a serious problem.
In fact, as early as 2020, multiple camera manufacturers tested the public version of 61MP cmos and expressed great satisfaction.

In my opinion, the large data flow brought by high pixels requires PENTAX to update the software and hardware again, including the image engine. Development time inevitably drags on.

As a user who owns K3III monochrome and K1II, I am deeply impressed by the improvement in response speed of K3III monochrome.
And I have also tested the Sigma FPL using 61MP cmos, and its response speed is not even as good as the K1 that is many years earlier.

So a longer wait may not be a bad thing, I believe PENTAX will release the perfect K1III. I'm not a fan of the product strategy of rapidly iterating on cameras with minimal differences.

In addition to pressing the calculator, staff also said that they are currently "waiting" for cost reductions.
This "waiting" becomes meaningful. It is modify the design or find a supplier with a lower price? In any case, it can be seen that PENTAX is very cautious about K1III.
So I think there is no need to give yourself a vain expectation at the moment, and then be very disappointed because PENTAX did not achieve it.
In my opinion, as a user, pushing yourself without any basis is very tiring. It is better to enjoy the moment.

I must state again that I am only transport the information I have been given.
Everyone can be skeptical.
In fact, there is a delay in the information itself, and I have to verify some information through multiple channels. Sometimes it may be "out of date" when I post it here. After all, PENTAX has been moving forward and will not wait for me ; ;

Maybe my brief description led to misunderstanding.
In fact, I mentioned in another post that PENTAX has internally conducted a cost assessment of the "current status of K1III". So the K1III is clearly not on hold.
I think the DFA lens is being shelved for now because R&D resources are limited.
From what I've heard about the K1III over the past year, progress on the K1III has been too slow, so I've concluded that the K1III is a lower priority than film cameras.
By the way, I recently “tortured” a friend who went to the Pentax Clubhouse in Japan multiple times. He mentioned that the "price" of K1III told by the staff at that time was 600,000 yen.
Please note that this "price" is based on the K1III's current design and component purchase prices. So I think K1III is still a long time away from release.
As for performance and specs, all I get is a very simple statement: the successor to the K1 must pack everything that can fit in it.

As for profitability, the news I got is that the price of the upcoming film camera will not exceed 100,000 yen. So I think the profitability of film cameras is significantly higher than the K1III. In my opnion, it is a healthy mechanism to follow the example of FUJIFILM and invest the profits from other product lines into the research and development of the DSLR product line.

On SL series and Panasonic S series cameras, the power consumption of Sigma lenses will increase. And the AF system doesn’t support Sigma lenses well.
This is also the main reason why Sigma has publicly complained about Panasonic many times in recent years.
In addition, Sigma's DN series lenses do not have good AF support on Leica and Panasonic cameras, and the optical design tends to use single-chip internal focusing.
If you are interested in DN series lenses, you can find that many prime lenses break down very badly in close-up shooting.
It is still unknown whether samyung will receive the same treatment as Sigma after entering L mount. But what is certain is that L mount is a mount dominated by Leica (and Panasonic).

The official responses to these questions match some of the information I have so far.
Since RICOH has strict requirements on PENTAX's revenue, PENTAX can no longer invest a lot of R&D resources.
The film camera project is currently the project with the highest return on investment, so both the K1III and the new K mount lens have been shelved or have low priority.
This reminds me of the main reason why I bought GRIII in the first place: I hope that Ricoh Imaging can earn more money to invest in PENTAX.
Of course, to be honest, I can only understand such an official reply to mean that the 645 product line has actually ended.
In the foreseeable future, PENTAX will use the money earned from the film camera project to supply the APSC and FF product lines.
Don’t forget that even with the exaggeratedly profitable Instax and film, they only supports two product lines for fujifilm: APSC and 4433.

If you use L mount cameras, I don’t think you will have "PENTAX should add L mount" idea.
L mount is a loose alliance, Panasonic and Leica have a very unfriendly attitude towards Sigma.
What’s even more fatal is that after PENTAX joins, neither the camera nor the lens are competitive anymore, so the meaning of consumer purchasing will completely disappear.

I talked about KP with a dealer a few years ago.
Since KP's sales volume can be called Waterloo, he believes that after KP's production line will change to K3III, and there will no longer be product similar to KP.
There is no contradiction between the fact that KP is a good camera and that KP is a failure for Pentax. Just like I have heard hundreds of people told me over the years that the K01 is a great camera.

From what I have learned so far, Pentax's only two camera projects are the film camera project and the full-frame project.

---------- Post added 11-17-23 at 02:35 PM ----------

I don’t think there is any essential difference between the LV performance of K3III and the LV performance of GRIII.
The premise is: I have used K3III and GRIII for a long time, and now I only keep one K3III monochrome.
Strictly speaking, the LV AF performance of these cameras is still at the level of the old generation, and is very far behind the new generation of mirrorless cameras.

Of course, this problem is not actually a serious flaw for DSLR.
But what I want to say is that there will be serious problems with making mirrorless cameras at this level of technology.
Among the mirrorless cameras currently in production, there is a camera with AF performance very similar to the LV of K3III - Sigma FPL. As far as I know, about 200 units of this camera were sold last year, all over the world.

PENTAX is a manufacturer that immediately stops after failure.
So I think disastrous failures such as K01 and KP will make PENTAX very taboo on such products.
The same goes for replacing the mount.
In addition, as a mirrorless camera, the most important AF focusing performance is completely unknown territory for PENTAX. Even the AF performance of the K3III's LV is completely incomparable to that of the mirrorless camera.
Moreover, the release of mirrorless cameras is completely inconsistent with PENTAX’s strategy in recent years.
So for PENTAX, the option of mirrorless camera does not exist at all.

Of course, PENTAX is also very aware that mirrorless cameras are now mainstream, and most users are using mirrorless cameras, so PENTAX sells Monster Adapters directly.
In addition, Mr. Zhou was invited to the PENTAX headquarters yesterday. It can be seen that PENTAX is very supportive of Monster Adapter.

Pentax film camera project: interview with Ricoh Imaging Europe

The news this time did not come from a dealer, but from a friend who traveled to Japan.
He chatted with the staff at Pentax Clubhouse for some time.

About film cameras: Two compact cameras will be released early next year. He emphasizes the compact size and manual film advance. And mentioned that "Pentax 67 users will be pleasantly surprised."

About K1m3: Now we can only wait quietly for the cost to decrease. If released now the price would be staggering. The staff pressed a series of numbers on a calculator, which almost scared my friend to tears (lmao).

About stop updating roadmap: Due to limited research and development capabilities, the update has to be abandoned. Officials do not want to give users a blank check.

In my opinion, after Nikon and Canon stop developing DSLR, Pentax's costs may become increasingly difficult to control. The iteration cycle will become longer and longer.Film camera projects are a good direction.

Pentax film camera project: interview with Ricoh Imaging Europe

A DSLR camera costs more than just the image sensor.
Especially for Pentax, the image sensors used are common products that are widely used.
The cost problem faced by Pentax, I think, mainly lies in the mechanical mechanism and image processing architecture.
Recently I used FP L, the public version of the 61MP image sensor. Paired with UHSII V90 SD card, the image processing speed is comparable to K1.
It is inevitable that the cost of digital cameras will rise as data throughput increases.
Unfortunately, Pentax is still like a baby in this regard. Whether performance or cost control, it is a long study for Pentax.
For example, the K3III released in 2021 has neither a CFE card slot nor dual USHII. Such a design would be unforgivable if it appeared on the K1III.

I'm glad to see Pentax turning its efforts to projects like film cameras.
Avoiding your weaknesses in electronics and making some interesting products is an effective way to survive.

From what I've heard, development of new full-frame cameras is very slow. The main reason has to do with cost.
For Pentax now, if it cannot launch new products at a reasonable price, it is better to remain silent.
The only information I know about film cameras is that they cost no more than $669 (at current exchange rates).

As far as I know, Pentax adjusted its pricing strategy after KP. In terms of lenses, it is after DFA*50.
It can be seen from the pricing of DFA*50 and DFA*85 that the pricing strategy has been obviously adjusted.
Likewise, the pricing for the DFA21, 11-18 and 16-50plm left me jaw-dropped.
To this day, I still use 20-40 for my K3iiimonochrome, even though I know that 16-50plm is the best match for the K3iii.

Tamron stopped the production of all DSLR lenses last year. There are only DSLR lenses in stock for sale in the product library.
And as far as I know, Pentax had hoped that the 70-210 could be produced in its own factory, but Tamron rejected it. Considering that the A034 has been discontinued before the release of the DFA70-210, all three OEM lenses may end completely after being sold out.
Does this mean that Pentax will update the 15-30 and 24-70 in the future?
According to the recent announcements, I don't think Pentax will do that.
On the contrary, it shows that based on current sales, Pentax's inventory can last for a long long time.

It seems to me that Pentax really thinks the puzzle is complete.

This is the end, beautiful friend, the end (Pentax 645Z discontinued)

According to the information I received, the original 645DII: the same CMOS of GFX100, IBIS, and the system can basically refer to K3III.
The original plan of Pentax was around ¥ 80000 (RMB), while the release price of GFX100 was close to ¥ 70000. At this time, PENTAX still believed that the plan was feasible.
However, the GFX100s with a release price of less than ¥ 40000 changed the game, directly led to the PENTAX chose to exit.

Considering the cost of DSLR's part such as the huge Pentaprism and reflector, I always think it is a wise decision to exit the MF market.

In fact, in Chinese Mainland, the 645Z has been sold at a loss in the last few years - the price is only ¥ 26800,but only few people is interested in it.

An important prerequisite: Nikon has the ability to design CMOS.
Although both IMX309 (D850, Z7, Z7II) and IMX609 (Z8, Z9) are manufactured by Sony, it is widely believed that they were designed by Nikon itself.

Not long after the release of K3III, Pentax once again demonstrated the highly completed 645DII. The final conclusion is to completely abandon the 645 product line and created a new full frame camera project.
So it's not surprising to see this news now. The dealers I know even speculate that as early as 2021-22, the production of 645Z may have ended, but there is a lot of inventory, so there has been no notification.
Another interesting thing: I heard the dealer complained that one 645Z would be equipped with five GR3s, which made the dealer unable to sell the GR3 at all - because the annual sales of 645Z in Chinese Mainland are single digits.

It is entirely understandable that the 645 product line has been abandoned. The huge pentaprism and reflector bring extremely high costs, making it impossible to compete with Fuji at the closely price even with the same sensors.
Although P645 mount offers the possibility of using larger sensors, it is clear that high prices will only make users more scarce. From the successive discontinuation of MF DSLR production by various companies, it can be seen that this market is indeed gradually disappearing.

It's better to say that the decisions made by other manufacturers relieved Pentax and alleviated the pain of making this decision.
In summary, I believe this is the most correct decision made by Pentax in recent years.

Pentax K3iii Monochrome officially on Ricoh website

Why is there no K1m2 monochrome?
Because IMX094 has been out of production for many years, Pentax cannot order the Monochrome version at all.
Why not use monochrome version of other CMOS?
Because that requires a complete remake of the camera, the workload is huge and the priority is significantly lower than the new FF camera.
Why not make a new FF camera?
How do you know that Pentax is not doing it? Based on imagination?

Some discussions have made me wonder if some people really don't know the internal structure of digital cameras.

In my opinion, releasing the K3IIIm is the best way for Pentax to ease the awkward atmosphere of new product delays with minimal effort.

In fact, when each camera factory orders CMOS from Sony, it will customize different front filters.

For example, the thickness of these filters is different. Generally, when designing lenses, camera manufacturers will take the thickness of these filters into account (refer to DA * 55 patent). If the thickness of the filter changes, the dispersion will be affected. This problem is very common for MILC users who often use lens by adapter.

Similarly, Fuji's Xtrans is also Fuji's request for different filters to achieve different arrays when ordering cmos from Sony.Ricoh can also order the same type of sensor, but the front filter is different.

By the way, I'm not very clear about the specifications of the GR monochrome sensor.I'm not interested in asking more details after I know the approximate price.

GR monochrome is an open secret in Chinese Mainland. There are GR Walk events every month in Chinese Mainland, and GR Monochrome information has been disclosed in several of these events.
Another GR is GR4. According to the previous message, GR4 will use the same cmos as XH2.
Of course, according to the latest news, the release of both GRs has been delayed. GR4 also seems to be reworked because the team seems to have some "novel" ideas.
If you want to say that GR3X was released earlier than GR monochrome, I can only say that every message about GR monochrome is delayed. From the reality, GR3X with lens replacement is smoother than GR monochrome with cmos and image processing engine replacement.

An important fact is that the project status of Ricoh Imaging changes in real time, but I get information at intervals. There is a certain lag in itself.
Perhaps at the meeting yesterday afternoon, Ricoh Imaging decided to release K1III immediately, and I still have know nothing at all.But who knows?
