Again a lovely picture of a dog! Two kittens born on March 3, 2008, picture is from April 25, 2008. Just a split second they sat together like this and my Samsung GX-10 with the Samsung 18-55 did me proud. Left is Caramel and right is Afters (the last to be born from the quartet).

Pschlute knows I am particularly fond of his dog's pictures, so it is with yours. And cats... well a lot of pictures I took from 2008 onwards are to do with cats, my particular bunch that is....

Is it me or is it... I am always quite sensitive to colours. Of this bunch the M50mm2 @f2 I like the colour very much. The flower pot (or whatever it is) the black squares are really black, with all the other pictures it is a bit greyish, not black, might also be the contrast. But the colour of the flower pot is better than in all the others and so are the flowers near the stump and the little spots on it better as the colour goes.

Problem with New Lenses - Is it Me?

No it is not you or the lenses, it is your K70 . Why does the 18-55 work as it should? Simply because it is screwdriven. The 18-135 and 20-40 have DC silent motors. The contact points for SDM and DC driven lenses might be damaged or dirty or there is an internal problem of the K-70. It is not the new stuff, it is the camera! Cleaning all the contacts might help do not overlook those square ones inside camera that supply power to the lens.

PS.: BigMackCam beat me to it with his explanation.

Travel recommendations

A good small travel kit: Leave the K-1 at home, you do not need it and it is absolutely not small. The K-3 can do it all. Small, and you are camping? Well, what about the 18-135? For a bit better quality take a 20-40mm. But when you are camping avoid changing lenses, so I'll stick with just one lens taking with you: the 18-135....

Would you reshoot the same subject with a new camera body?

Not with a new camera body, but with a new lens, yes! Because it is fun to take pictures documenting the change that takes place in my surroundings. I do that every season and I do it again in the same season if I obtained a new lens. A body can do nothing without the lens, so yes, the lens is the important one. And with Pentax SR I do not need to that because of blur, but because I like to do that. And if a picture gets blurry I notice it right away, that is why I so much like the digital camera's. When I get older my footing is a little bit less reliable and so I sometimes have to take the pictures a few times extra. Mostly it turns out that all qualify to become a keeper. Thank you SR! :)

PS.: I also shoot art, that is the art of dead trees! Then there are no leaves that obscure their beautiful bodies.

Help with lens selection

Apart from not having read about purple fringing I never seen it in any picture that I have taken with this lens, and I bought shortly after it was released. If you want the Sigma 17-50 buy one without the OS, saves the battery...

Pentax INGRESS ratings on bodies and lenses
Posted By AfterPentax Mark II
Replies: 20

I guess you mean IP55? It is a low level for resisting dust (first 5) and moisture (last 5). So IP68 is quite high level for the ingress of dust and moisture. Do not think that Ricoh will use this, because it means they have to warrant that and describe to what circumstances the camera is safe to use. IP68 (most smartphones nowadays) can resist water ingress if put under water for less than 30 minutes and no more than 1 meter under water.
Maybe this article clears thing up for you IP code - Wikipedia .

Good walking zoom on my Pentax ME.

Of course the A 35-105, which is brilliant. But the A 35-70 f4 is also something special. And if you can find a very good copy the Takumar A 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 (There is also a Pentax version) and to be honest I really did not miss the SMC on my Takumar and get fine results, sometimes this lens's Macro capability can come in handy. I own all three, but for walk around the 35-105 might be a bit heavy.

List of what lens came with what camera

When I bought my first ME it did not came as a kit with a lens, but the seller advised me to take the M 1.7 50mm. The first time I bought a Pentax with a (more or less) dedicated lens was with the MZ-5 which was combined with the f4.0 28-70mm AF. At that time it was that lens that was recommended by Pentax (and not by the seller) and in advertisements you could read that that lens was especially developed for this new camera and its spin offs.

Focusing is difficult with these "branches and twigs " because of the multitude the focus sensor can get confused and take the wrong spot for focusing confirmation while looking through the viewfinder you had another spot in mind (than the sensor)...

The 20-40 does not have an SDM that can fail sooner or later (as is well documented on this forum).

The 18-135 has it all, it is very good and lighter and compacter than the 16-85. I have both and prefer the 18-135, the latter really shines on my KP, which the 16-85 does not. (But to be honest, I never liked that lens.) Second choice would be the 20-40, great lens as well and very good combo wiith the KP!

SO MANY FUNCTIONS! (Yes, I'm shouting!) - Pentax K-x

Your K-x is basicly a camera just like any film camera. All those settings are indeed overwhelming. Just set the aperture to f8.0 (or any setting you like, but most of the time 5.6 and 8.0 give the best results) and choose Av setting and just concentrate on what you see in the viewfinder and take your pictures. I use my digitals in the same way as I used my old film camera's. If you get the hang of your camera you can experiment with other settings such as under- or over-exposure with that +/- knob. That is what I do and this is how I introduce people to start o otake pictures with an advanced camera, just to get acquainted with it all.

Not ONE mention of Pentax in this article?

I did it before they wrote this piece, I have a Samsung GX-10 and they are right: I bought a Pentax K-01! (After that one I bought a Pentax K-3 Mark II).

Unfortunately they are right (again): I bought a mirrorless (early 2023). But then last november I bought my K-3 Mark III Silver Kit 20-40mm for my birthday....

Keep in mind: they are not babbling about what you buy after you have bought a mirrorless.

PS.: They need not to mention Pentax, it only goes for Canon and Nikon. Because that are the only DSLR brands that people in general will know. Pentax is an elite force, that is why the name slips the mind of general people.:(

Pentax k30 stuck

I think you should not be rude to the people that try to help you! Read your own posts carefully, "Did you read carefully what the problem is with my device?"; "Read carefully and only then give your opinion"; "I described the problem I encountered and you develop some topics that have nothing to do with the topic". "I am waiting for an answer from someone who knows how and has encountered this problem", think it will be a long wait.

Enjoy!

Well, it sounds like you are dissatisfied with ideas given. I still think you should be grateful for the time the people here spend in trying to help you, I can not do so because, honestly, I can not make heads or tails what you are describing (). But some camera's have these tricks that they play on you. And sometimes it is due to pushing a wrong button. If you are absolutely sure you have nothing done wrong, not pushed any button by accident, throw away the camera and buy a new one. That will immediately solve the problem.

There is only one way to find out for yourself, hire a K-3 Mark III and draw you own conclusion (after Procol Harum's "Your own choice".).

Well, I always wanted to have the original K-1. If it satisfies my longing for such a camera then I hope my GBA is cured.

To all of you: thanks for all your advice and the funny remarks, I appreciate both very much. Another thing with me is that I do not like buying second hand and certainly not for prices as high as this one. Now and again I buy a second hand lens, mostly for around 60 or 70 Euro's. (that is how I acquired the almost in new condition Pentax SMC 28mm f3.5 K, complete with original hood and both in the original leather case). I usually buy new after saving for some time and in the case of the original K-1, when I had enough money there were only K-1 Mark II's for sale and there were plenty of Mark II's for sale even secondhand, but not the original. And now I spotted this one complete with original grip.
