How is ya'll experience with BM Premium (I got a dual charger with two batteries from Amazon). I'm concerned I made a bad decision (I'm still within the Return Window) with all this talk about surprise fireworks and batteries swelling, etc. It seems like I'm better off just buying a second Pentax Battery, and a second charger.

It already looks like from searching and reading a little deper around here I already know the answer, I just found zero returned results about BM Premium when I searched the forum, but B&H Photo and Mike's Camera both sells this unit and batteries, so since ya'll recommend buying from a reputable place, it seems since they offer it, they stand behind it. I noticed the 2 contacts versus the 3.

"Made in China" has REALLY been annoying me over the recent years, because I'm always finding problems as a result.

I always found it funny when someone was off by a factor of a zero in front of the decimal, or converted from and to the wrong direction in units, especially when in college my physics professor made a point when someone was off by a factor of 10 or 100 or bigger. There's a number of hilarious ways to demonstrate that as well.

I shoot P and Aperture all the time, yet I know I cannot adjust the Aperature, and therefore so far, it hasn't made any difference even with the Candid Photography I've done. I'll have to post some pictures when I get the chance.

I either haven't found the AW versions of the Lenses I have, or decided against them due to price. I'm more for the AW versions for the protection, but I think I'm also limited on the K-5 being WR anyway instead of AW.

Thank you!

I haven't found that to be the case yet, which is interesting, because there we cautions around the internet about this, but I have not successfuly created the conditions yet that have made this an issue, so far, in my shooting.

Thank you, I've looked at that, but it would get hung up in brush, tree branches, etc., I just don't want the unnecessary bulk (even frilly) or things to worry about, so I've selected WR everything for dusty and occasionally wet environment / situations I'm in regularly.

---------- Post added 10-15-22 at 09:50 AM ----------

I'm all over the place, and as such carry at least 2 lenses with me at any given time, sometimes all 3. I know that doesn't answer a lot, because it doesn't hone anything in, but landscape and wildlife photography is often what I'm into. Since I've gotten my Macro Lens, I've been capturing more emotion of people and slices of life compared to the overall shots in landscape and sometimes wildlife.

What a great suggestion! I appreciate it! I'll have to look at one sometime, $1,296 is a chunk of change right now.

Good morning all,

This is such a helpful forum with so many helpful members! I've appreciated being around and asking even the elementary of questions with the results of answers I get from you all.

So I've upgraded.......

I have my K-5 and I keep:
100mm Macro - SMC Pentax D FA 2.8 WR
16-85mm HD Pentax DA 3.5-5.6 ED DC WR - you all seem to know and love
55-300mm HD Pentax DA 4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE - my latest acquisition I have been very pleased with

With the K-5, I'm focusing on WR Lenses only, I'm not even slightly interested in non-WR because I've got enough Outdoor experience and versatility of conditions at times that I don't want to create an avoidable single point of failure in my system. I do have a K-x that's currently in the Shop getting cleaned up for the non-WR applications.

I have found I use the 16-85 for a lot of general photography, but that's mostly because of the light gathering and varying distances.

I started using my 100mm a few days ago, but I really wish I had a 55mm in WR, or something for a good Prime Lens.

However, everything said above, I got my 55-300 Lens and I was nervous with the Reviews stating that because of the APK4 Mount required that I was going to have errors and such interfering with my new Lens. Of course, I upgraded the to the newest Firmware, and I have zero issues, so far.

I'm wondering, what could I do better for broader range of applications, switch out a Lens and work deliberately on certain situations? I think I have everything covered.

What are your recommendations for sticking with a WR that is super fast, like my 50mm (non-WR) that lives with my K-x?

Do you see situations where I should stay away from, other than the obvious of course, with my current WR setup that would be one of those moments along the lines of, "look at that newbie with his camera, that is using THAT Lens for that application when that's the dumbest idea ever?" or another way to say something similar might be, "that Lens does a really bad job in my experience in those _________ (fill in the blank) conditions".

My Telephoto 55-300mm is going to be really handy with all the Outdoors stuff I do. Sooner or later I'll be looking for a Super Telephoto beyond the 300mm Range because I'm in Deer, Elfk, Moose, Brown and Grizzly Bear, Mountain Lion, and then the cute little birds kind of country in Wyoming, USA.

Thank you all!

My apologies, I have the 16-85, I mis-typed. I don't consider someone a pain when being accurate and right, no worries.

Thank you, I'll have to keep an eye out as budget allows, I think my 18-85 ought to do it, I'll just have to know I can't always use the flash, but I'll be testing it over the next few days.

THANK YOU! You just saved me from another error from mis-typing in my order creation and then not noticing that was for the K-3.

Ah, perfect, this is the hidden little thing that will make ALL the difference.

Thank you sir! I just got in-hand in the last hour, and it looks brand new, seems brand new, the battery is charging, and I just downloaded the Owner's Manual before opening this thread. I plan to keep the 18-85mm WR Lens on it

Ah, this makes sense, it's back tot he Basics of Photography for me, I also have wondered whether I should put the Skylight Filters back on my Lenses to see what happens, but I keep hearing that's pointless with the great White Balance feature of these cameras.

I'm receiving my new K-5 today actually because of how much time I spend outdoors and will be moving my 16-85 Lens over to that.

I am receiving my K-5 in the mail today according to some research here and recommendations you all provided to another photographer around here.

I'm going to move my WR DA 16-85mm ED DC WR lens on there and leave the other 2 lenses for my K-x.

I have the next questions, along the same topic:
1. What Prime Lens is worth getting for my K-5 and do they make any WR of the same? Am I duplicating efforts considering what I have that I'm moving over to my K-5? One of the things I've noticed is that the lens gets in the way of the flash close in.
2. I think I'm going to want a wet-weather hood to protect the lens, what recommendation/s do you all have for this?
3. (Since I'm asking questions here already), I've noticed they have a Power Grip D-BG8, which expands m Power Supply options
4. (Again, since I'm asking questions here already) , has anyone had any good experience with spare D-Lion batteries, and should I go wth Wasabi Power, or Pentax Proprietary batteries, or some other choice, and then there's the Charger options, and sometimes everything nicely and neatly packaged.

Thank you all again!

I have the following 3 Lenses:
1. 50mm Prime (1.8 SMC DA) with UV Filter (Amazon Basics) and CPL available
2. Pentax 18-85mm (1:3.5-5.6 HD DA ED DC WR) with UV Filter (Polaroid)
3. SMC Pentax DA 55-300mm with UV Filter (B&W )

I have put UV filters on each of them, and only have a Polarizer (available) for the 50mm

I have been trying to figure out with so many opinions out there on what to use each lens for, I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

I'm not a new photographer, but I have had a good camera capable of taking better pictures than me previously to owning this K-x I got from a Ranger buddy, Kent, now with removable lenses, filters, etc., I feel like I'm starting all over again.

I like a Filter to protect the lens from dust, dirt, grime, oil, fingerprints, etc. I used to run a Skylight Filter on each of the lenses, but I have learned better than that and I recently came up against an issue with taking shots in crowds of an event having too long of a shutter opening and blurry images because it was taking too long to take the shot with the wide angle lens (admittedly not the lens to use anyway, but I just got the 50mm in today and started playing with it) and I have a bunch of ruined shots because of varying light levels at that venue.

So I'm thinking:

50mm good for general use, good with people and crowds, no ability to quickly change to zoom though

16-85mm good all-around, and one I used to use all the time, I spend a lot of time outdoors and this seems like the most versatile, and it obviously crosses into the 50mm territory and changes the frame some, of course.

My telephoto 55-300 I don't use all that much but I'm looking forward to playing with it at some distance, but it seems like I may need to upgrade that someday for truly good outdoor photography well away from wildlife that I would like to capture shots of in the future.

It seems like I have some crossover with the 3 lenses, but what particular niches should I use each lens for, or do I have it, or is this so basic of a question that I just need to go take a photography course properly and go have some real fun (which I think I want to do anyway).

Thank you all for your time

Good morning everyone (in the US)!

Thankfully, I got a nice older Pentax K-x from a Ranger buddy, Kent, thank you brother, and this introduced me to the Pentax line.

I'm a semi-pro photographer, but I don't claim Pro because I don't try to make money doing it, I just happen to sometimes. This camera takes really good pictures.

Thank you for the forum.
