Good morning all,

This is such a helpful forum with so many helpful members! I've appreciated being around and asking even the elementary of questions with the results of answers I get from you all.

So I've upgraded.......

I have my K-5 and I keep:
100mm Macro - SMC Pentax D FA 2.8 WR
16-85mm HD Pentax DA 3.5-5.6 ED DC WR - you all seem to know and love
55-300mm HD Pentax DA 4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE - my latest acquisition I have been very pleased with

With the K-5, I'm focusing on WR Lenses only, I'm not even slightly interested in non-WR because I've got enough Outdoor experience and versatility of conditions at times that I don't want to create an avoidable single point of failure in my system. I do have a K-x that's currently in the Shop getting cleaned up for the non-WR applications.

I have found I use the 16-85 for a lot of general photography, but that's mostly because of the light gathering and varying distances.

I started using my 100mm a few days ago, but I really wish I had a 55mm in WR, or something for a good Prime Lens.

However, everything said above, I got my 55-300 Lens and I was nervous with the Reviews stating that because of the APK4 Mount required that I was going to have errors and such interfering with my new Lens. Of course, I upgraded the to the newest Firmware, and I have zero issues, so far.

I'm wondering, what could I do better for broader range of applications, switch out a Lens and work deliberately on certain situations? I think I have everything covered.

What are your recommendations for sticking with a WR that is super fast, like my 50mm (non-WR) that lives with my K-x?

Do you see situations where I should stay away from, other than the obvious of course, with my current WR setup that would be one of those moments along the lines of, "look at that newbie with his camera, that is using THAT Lens for that application when that's the dumbest idea ever?" or another way to say something similar might be, "that Lens does a really bad job in my experience in those _________ (fill in the blank) conditions".

My Telephoto 55-300mm is going to be really handy with all the Outdoors stuff I do. Sooner or later I'll be looking for a Super Telephoto beyond the 300mm Range because I'm in Deer, Elfk, Moose, Brown and Grizzly Bear, Mountain Lion, and then the cute little birds kind of country in Wyoming, USA.

Thank you all!

Which Lens for what? (50mm vs 16-85mm vs 55-300mm

I have the following 3 Lenses:
1. 50mm Prime (1.8 SMC DA) with UV Filter (Amazon Basics) and CPL available
2. Pentax 18-85mm (1:3.5-5.6 HD DA ED DC WR) with UV Filter (Polaroid)
3. SMC Pentax DA 55-300mm with UV Filter (B&W )

I have put UV filters on each of them, and only have a Polarizer (available) for the 50mm

I have been trying to figure out with so many opinions out there on what to use each lens for, I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

I'm not a new photographer, but I have had a good camera capable of taking better pictures than me previously to owning this K-x I got from a Ranger buddy, Kent, now with removable lenses, filters, etc., I feel like I'm starting all over again.

I like a Filter to protect the lens from dust, dirt, grime, oil, fingerprints, etc. I used to run a Skylight Filter on each of the lenses, but I have learned better than that and I recently came up against an issue with taking shots in crowds of an event having too long of a shutter opening and blurry images because it was taking too long to take the shot with the wide angle lens (admittedly not the lens to use anyway, but I just got the 50mm in today and started playing with it) and I have a bunch of ruined shots because of varying light levels at that venue.

So I'm thinking:

50mm good for general use, good with people and crowds, no ability to quickly change to zoom though

16-85mm good all-around, and one I used to use all the time, I spend a lot of time outdoors and this seems like the most versatile, and it obviously crosses into the 50mm territory and changes the frame some, of course.

My telephoto 55-300 I don't use all that much but I'm looking forward to playing with it at some distance, but it seems like I may need to upgrade that someday for truly good outdoor photography well away from wildlife that I would like to capture shots of in the future.

It seems like I have some crossover with the 3 lenses, but what particular niches should I use each lens for, or do I have it, or is this so basic of a question that I just need to go take a photography course properly and go have some real fun (which I think I want to do anyway).

Thank you all for your time

Good morning everyone (in the US)!

Thankfully, I got a nice older Pentax K-x from a Ranger buddy, Kent, thank you brother, and this introduced me to the Pentax line.

I'm a semi-pro photographer, but I don't claim Pro because I don't try to make money doing it, I just happen to sometimes. This camera takes really good pictures.

Thank you for the forum.
