Item for Sale
Pentax Limited 21mm lens..... Used Only Once

Asking Price
222.00 USD

Item Location
BROOKLYN (United States)

Item Description
Dead Mint. Bought for me by a family member years ago, who didn't know I already had the HD version, presented it to me too late to return, so it's been sitting in my dry box ever since. Was mounted on a camera once, just to make sure it worked properly, which it does. Comes with a new soft Pentax pouch, but not the leather original, which was confiscated by my daughter long ago..... S-M-C A Series Lens On Mirrorless Camera Operation

Yes, I've got a couple of pre-set Taks for just that practical purpose (55 f2.2, 135 f3.5, & 50mm 1:1 Macro so far), best of all the M42 Takumars in that all important way (wish my Zebra was a pre-set). Not worth using the A series if they don't offer the digital connection benefits that sets them apart from the other manual focus series..... I'll stick to my incomparable screwy Taks.

How would a Pentax S-M-C A Series lens perform on a mirrorless camera with an adapter? Having no digital connection, would it not have to be operated in the same stopped down manual or aperture preferred manner as M42 Takumars?

Lens adapter problem

Thanks, Mike. Looks like there's no way to use the switch. No real problem for me, for as I posted in my original posting, I've always preferred & used the aperture ring for stopped down shooting anyway, just wondering why I couldn't put the other option into play, never tried doing so until yesterday.

Recently picked up a K&F Concept M42 to Fujifilm lens adapter for my Fujifilm X-T2 camera to use with my vintage Takumar lenses. I don't use the stop down lever to focus wide open & then stop down to shooting aperture, instead just using the aperture ring by itself for that purpose. Today, tho, I wanted to see how that would work out for me, but was surprised to learn that my lenses don't stay wide open in the Auto position, just stops down with the aperture ring the same way it does in the manual position. That's with both my Super-Multi-Coated & Super Takumars. What's the problem, and more importantly, what's the solution?

Thanks for the helpful info. Someone on this forum should be able to point me in the right direction as far as finding an adapter that works properly with Takumars. After all, this is THE Pentax site. Vintage Pentax lenses in particular being so prevalent on the used vintage lens market nowadays for those so inclined, you'd think one or more lens adapter companies would come out with a Pentax specific model and/or at least inform potential customers of this limitation.

That being the case, & all but one of my vintage lens collection being anything other than Takumars (I have an Auto Rikenon 55mm f1.4), I'd be better off picking up one that would allow for proper operations. Can you suggest one or more known to work correctly with Taks? Cost is not really an issue in this case, as it would be a one off expense applicable to all my lenses.

Radioactive 8 Element 50?

It's definitely an 8 element, shows all the earmarks (red line on the right side closest to the 4 & extended convex rear element). What Kozlac said above makes the most sense, as it's not a deep yellow like that on my 7 element Super, but a light sunshine tinged tint.

Just received an 8 element 50mm Super Takumar, late serial # copy (1556544). The glass seems lightly yellowed. Is it possible that the latest editions were radioactively charged?

Yes, well aware & keeping my eyes open for one in very good condition that won't break the bank. Who would've guessed that such an antiquated, long abandoned design would make such good sense in the digital age?

Pre Auto Takumar 55mm f2 Digital Camera Operation

Thanks for the info, guys. As I figured, but just double checking. I'm actually quite accustomed to focusing wide open and then stopping down to take the shot, as I do a good deal of shooting with Super & Super-Multi-Coated Taks on my Fujifilm Mirrorless cameras (I don't use the auto/manual switch for that). The butter smooth aperture ring action of a well broken in M42 Tak makes that operation a pleasure. Altho I don't have much direct experience with them yet, seems to be not so much with the relatively remotely connected front lens loaded early Auto Tak aperture rings, tho, so just hoping I was wrong.

I've got a Takumar 55mm f2 (with the silver aperture lever & silver front lens aperture ring) on the way. Am I correct in assuming that the lever won't work on a mirrorless camera (Fujifilm X-T2 in this case) as it would on a film camera, & is for it's intent & purpose useless (& that there's no get-around), but that the aperture ring would have to be opened & closed manually with the aperture ring alone?
