The Mimosa tree in our back yard has grown very tall and when it blooms, it attracts many different birds, butterflies and other insects. We have been waiting for the Hummingbirds to arrive. Shot too many photos again. Here is a sampling.

Macro My Garden Spider - Take One

I have been looking for a spider to photograph for this month's photo contest with no luck, and last night as I was barbequing on my porch, I looked up and spotted this spider under the eaves of the porch. Because of low light I had to shoot this at pretty high ISO and a pretty open aperture, so I decided to attempt focus stacking free-hand to get it all in focus. This is a stack of 8 shots. I think it needed about 15-20, but it is not easy standing on a chair and trying to hold the camera still enough pointing above your head to end up with even 8 shots.:( The good news is the spider doesn't look like it will be going anywhere soon, and I just need to come up with a way to hold the camera steady for a good focus stack. Stay tuned...:)

feasting on thistle blooms. The first two were taken at ISO 5000 and processed through Topaz Denoise AI with their new Extreme Noise process. It does a very good job. I am really liking the Irix 150 macro even though it is manual focus. It produces fantastic bokeh.:)

Went to the highest point in Montreal to get a clear horizon for the rising sun with the moon already eclipsing some of it.

All done with very old Pentax material that can still deliver! No solar filter.

This Harley-Davidson was sitting in the parking lot of our local organic food Co-Op, in Ashland, Oregon - and looking at its polished chrome and metal lines, it felt like it was calling out to me to put the Q7 into 'Bold Monochrome' mode. So I did ... and voilą!
