Full frame lenses on APS-C

I recently was able to procure a K-1 and some dandy FF lenses, and have been shooting almost exclusively with that rig. Admittedly, my sample size of FF lenses on an APS-C is therefore small, but so far, I have experienced no flare and ghosting problems. The size and weight increases others have noted could be a very minor issue for some folks, but those have not hampered the great time I've had out making photos. Unless a serious study or studies comes along and demonstrates a real problem, it is probably best to carry on and not worry about it.

Flower Power: Recommendations for lenses to shoot flowers

Oh, boy, that's a great recommendation. I did some research on the FA77mm, and it did indeed seem to be all that and more. Now, if I can just get my bank account to stop crying, I might be able to get one!

I have to say, that is a tool I did not know existed. And now, I'm glad I do. Thank you!

Those flower portraits are stunning. That is some great work. Thank you for the recommendation!

Beautiful! The composition of many of those shots is similar to what I amy doing for a good portion of the work. I'm always happy to learn from great examples.

That first shot, in particular, is the kind of attention grabber i'll be aiming for with the flower farm. Thank you for sharing that.

Good to know! Thank you for the tip about the pixel shift.

That is very kind of you. Thank you!

I have heard similar praise for that lens in other quarters. Thank you!

To all who chimed in, your input has been a tremendous help. Thank you so much for such a trove of good tips and advice.

Flower Power: Recommendations for lenses to shoot flowers

Good evening, all. Hard on the heels of last month's flower photo contest, I have been granted the opportunity, in a professional capacity, to shoot photos of flowers. These photos will be used for artwork, marketing, and other graphics in support of a budding (pun intended) flower farm. I am really looking forward to trying this out. My usual work (and hobby) is real estate photos, architecture, and natural world subjects. I have enjoyed shooting flowers almost exclusively as a sidebar to my other pursuits.

I typically use a K3 or K20D for digital work, and a K1000 or Pentax ME Super for film work. I'll be shooting in sun, shade, and artificial light for a variety of purposes. Distances will range primarily from tight close-ups, to bouquet "still lifes", to medium range field shots. Most of my work will be digital, with a little bit of film. Some of the kit lenses I have might do, but my typical wide angle lenses won't be of much help.

To up my flower game, may I please get some recommendations for lenses that you have found to be particularly suited for flower "portraiture"?

K-3 with malfunctioning display and lenses

The message was coming up right after the shots. I tested it to make sure I wasn't accidently pushing the button, and that wasn't the case. I did drill deep down into the Menus, and sure enough after I turned off instant review the message ceased appearing. I think it had defaulted to that setting upon resetting it back to Default Settings. I just didn't know it! That setting was WAY down in the menus, one that I rarely access.

Another quirk now is that the first shot taken after turning the camera on is always black. The second shot and those after are fine. It doesn't prevent usage, though. After all the shenanigans with this unit, I'll take that as a win.

Thank you for the tip!

I hadn't right away, but just tried it at your suggestion. Unfortunately, the message still appeared. This is a real head scratcher.

Maybe there is some setting that it is defaulting to, and I just haven't found it yet.

Yes, this is a puzzler. I'm wondering if I am just missing a setting somewhere in the system. I'm swamped with other stuff, so a deep dive into it will have to wait. But at least it is taking pictures now!

K-3 with malfunctioning display and lenses

Another update, y'all!

Okay, so my K3 was returned after the second round of repairs (on the shop's tab) and it does appear to work, with one annoyance.

No matter what settings I choose for the image taking (file formats, ISO, speed, etc.) I keep getting a message referencing RAW+ format. See the attached image.

I've reformatted the card and made sure the image format was set to JPEG. I recustomized the RAW Fx button to something other than the image formatting option. The message still appears. This causes a delay in the image taking workflow, although I can keep shooting and the subsequent images seem to ignore.

However, given that the irritation factor has ramped up, I want to turn off the message so that it does not appear again. I just returned from an out-of-state visit dealing with a family crisis, so maybe I am overly tired, causing me to miss something.

Has anyone else seen this message? Were you able to turn it off? If so, how?

Thanks for the input, too!

Mbaez:

Original estimate was $185.00 USD, with $28.46 for shipping, total of $213.46. That's less expensive than my past experiences with Precision. My camera was well out of warranty, and ironically my last experience with Precision was a bit less than satisfying, although not as spectacularly off. The K3 is back iwith Camera Service Pro, to be set right at cost to them. I can say that CSP has been understanding and pleasantly helpful with this issue so far, hoping that holds up. We'll see!

I learned how to be a troubleshooter from my father, who was an auto mechanic for almost 50 years. Function and scale are very different between cars and cameras, but the principles for diagnostics translate well. Thank you!

Hello, Andrea K!

Typically the repair shops pay for shipping when they are at fault. I verified it with this company, and they will be covering the shipping costs.

Most definitely! I contacted them this morning and they confirmed that none of that should be happening. So I'm shipping it back for diagnostics and repair on their tab. Fingers crossed it sticks.

Hello, Pentax Forums. II'm a newbie on the forums but have been a semi-pro and professional photographer for about 12 years. My favorite K-3 camera was just repaired (a sticking shutter curtain) by Camera Service Company in Atlanta, GA. My home base is in Maryland, so the camera was shipped back and forth.

I received the "repaired" camera today, 27 April 2021. Initially it worked but within five minutes of operation, the LCD started flickering on and off, the shutter clicked once or twice, and the lens (a kit DA 18-55) kept cycling back and forth trying to focus. The camera would still take pictures but the LCD remained black with the exception of image display. I could see them and delete them, but otherwise a black LCD. Live view still worked. The firmware is also up to date.

Turning it off and on would reset it, but the same things happened repeatedly within about 30 seconds of the reset. I tried a new battery, same result. I checked the SD port door and it seemed fine. Switched the SD card between slots, still same result. The same result occurred in multiple modes, with manual focus, with auto-focus, manual triggering, remote control triggering, and with a different lens (Tamron SP 10-24mm).

Before the latest round of malfunction, the K3 with the Tamron 10-24 was my go-to rig for my real estate photography business, as well as a personal favorite for hobby shooting. Before I call Camera Service Company, has anyone experienced this phenomenon? Any home remedies out there? Insights and assistance would be greatly appreciated.
