Also wanted to ask.... is it a big deal that there are a couple of spots of fungus on my 6x7 viewfinder? There are 2 or 3, only around 1mm or less wide.

Pentax 6x7 after 10th frame advance lever gets stuck / friction

I experienced this yesterday. I was winding the film and suddenly the lever got stuck. I opened the film-back and noticed that the small strip of paper for sealing the roll hadworked itself around the metal pole, and this caused the roll to encounter resistance in being rotated. Removing it, the lever was fine again.

Interesting that this kit includes a foam strip for the body itself at the split screen. Mine doesn't look like it ever originally had one, only on the viewfinder prism piece.

That's a fantastic point, I'll wedge a loose piece of foam into it and see if it resolves the problem, before adhering it. The exposure is consistently off by a stop or so compared to my phone's meter -- not a huge deal, I can just compensate the ISO and eventually crack open the prism to adjust the adjustable screw to calibrate the light meter.

The return includes shipping, but if the required effort to resolve the issue is low, then I'm willing to just suck up and do it myself or pay someone to replace the seals -- honestly the camera seems to work great in every other way, and returning/re-purchasing cameras is exhausting.

If you had bought one and had this issue, would you return it or just try the foam?

The seller has offered to pitch in $100 for a repair, if needed.

Yea, there's actually a camera repair shop here in San Diego. I just don't want to try something that doesn't work and ends up making the camera difficult to return, should I need to.

Here's a photo of the back:

And a video of the movement:

I just took the lens and prism off, and re-installed, and now the light meter will not turn on unless I press down on the rear area as video'd.

I found this thread which seems to be describing my exact issue

pentax 6x7 - loose seating of ttl prisms? | Photo.net Photography Forums

And the owner managed to fix it by adding some adhesive foam to the front side of the camera around the split focusing screen. I may try this, but first want to get any additional feedback from you guys, and then take it to my local camera store to check out.

Is that something I should do myself? Sounds a little involved. I also have the option of returning it.

Hello, I bought a Pentax 6x7 MU recently with a TTL light meter unit.

I'm noticing that when I use the light meter, it sometimes randomly turns off (much sooner than the 10-15ish seconds it should stay on after activation)

Upon further investigation, I'm seeing that if I apply any pressure on the prism unit, even by simply aiming the camera downward, the light meter will shut off. Or by gently pressing down on the prism will do it. The prism unit seemed to have snapped into place when I re-installed it, but there is quite a bit of "give" if I press down on the end near the viewfinder.

Any advice? I would love if I didn't have to return it but of course I want to get this issue resolved.

Pentax 67 -- ISO wheel misaligned?

How would I do that?

---------- Post added 05-10-21 at 06:24 PM ----------

In comparing to my phone's light meter, I think I know which of the two positions gives the most accurate reading. I just don't know whether I should return this to the seller, since he said it works perfectly. I don't want to take a hit when/if I try to resell this, know what i mean?

Pentax 67 -- ISO wheel misaligned?

Hello, on my new (to me) Pentax 67, I noticed that the ISO wheel is slightly misaligned.

For example, the "400" indicator cannot be centered in the display, either appearing slightly to the right or to the left. So I'm not actually sure which position corresponds to 400. (Images attached.)

Can anyone offer any advice?

OK! This is a relief. At least doesn't point to any major flaw. Thank you for the info.

Pentax 67 door has some play after snapping shut

Hello all, I purchased a Pentax 67 in overall what seems to be in great shape (a couple rolls are currently being developed which will tell for sure). One thing that the seller warned of is that the light seals will eventually need to be replaced, and indeed they seem a bit rough. But, not clear whether it is actually a problem at the moment.

Anyway, I've discovered that when I close the film door, it satisfyingly "snaps" shut -- but then there is still some play if I squeeze the door close more -- it can squeeze in another mm but then it sort of springs back into its resting position.

Anyone ever encounter this? Is it a problem? Maybe it's just the rim squeezing against the foam light seals?

I'm within my 30 day return window so I'm just trying to be as meticulous as possible in identifying any potential issues.

Having a hard time using the viewfinder on my Pentax 67

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've gone ahead and purchased a waist level viewfinder. It will suck that I will need to use my phone to meter the shots, but I expect the user experience to be so much better.

Having a hard time using the viewfinder on my Pentax 67

Hello all,

I purchased a Pentax 67 in pretty good condition from ebay ([Near MINT] PENTAX 67 TTL Mirror Up Late SMC 6x7 90mm f2.8 Lens Grip from JAPAN | eBay), and while I'm still getting used to using it, I'm having some trouble using the viewfinder.

I wear glasses, and in order to see a decent percentage of the frame, I need to hold my eye so close to the viewfinder that my glasses are scratching against the threaded ring.

This is without any lenses or anything in the viewfinder, as the camera came to me. The seller included a diopter (not sure what power) and when I install it, I just can't ever get it to not be blurry when using it.

Recently I've resorted to wearing my contact lenses, and with these, if I hold my eye as close as possible to the viewfinder, I can just make out the entire frame.

But I wonder -- is this the correct/intended configuration?

Am I missing something? Should the viewfinder have come with some optics that would have made the frame easier to view?
