Hi.

I know this post is over a year old, but I just joined this club. I am curious to know whether the shot was taken handheld? And if you don't mind me asking, what kind of post-processing did you do?

Here's a decent handheld shot of a heron at 200mm, F 5.6, 1/750 sec. It's a crop of a jpg crop from my K1 II with only auto adjustments in Camera Raw.

Hi,

So, after all these years, I just bought a used Pentax DFA 70-200 and joined this club.

For the moment I am getting to know it hand held. Of course, I am in dire need of a new tripod. I had a Rollei Beta Mark II bought via an Amazon Warehouse deal, but the tripod head was not stable enough for my Irix Dragonfly 2.8 150mm and so I had to return it without getting a new one.

Any recommendations? Something proven to work in the wild? I'm in Europe and hoping to spend no more than € 200 - 250. Carbon would be preferable, but not an absolute must.

I'd be grateful for any tips. Thanks!

Photography is an art. It's all about manipulation. From start to finish. It has no obligation to reality, or to even look "realistic". It's about taste and style. If the beholder doesn't like a photo, then he doesn't have to vote for it. It's that simple.

I haven't checked on PF, but maybe there is a contest or challenge suited to those who prefer minimal or even no editing/PP? If such a contest doesn't exist, perhaps those interested could set one up?

For the sake of learning, I am curious to know or see some examples of water-themed pictures you or any other like-minded commentator think demonstrate more originality? I say this not to be defensive or start some debate. I would really like to see these pictures, and, of course, learn how they were taken, but the latter is perhaps best for another day.

Congratulations to ramseybuckeye for a well-deserved win. And thank you Kerrowdown for the honorable mention. Twas my first weekly challenge. I can't confirm whether or not it was an Oak, but the pic was taken on a recent trip to Big Sur (Andrew Molera State Park if I'm not mistaken), where besides many young coastal redwoods, I spotted quite a few interesting trees. I'd love to go back.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just did a factory reset... nothing seemed to change. I will let the camera sit around for 24 hours with a fully charged battery and try again.

I would be surprised if I went through all these 50 cycles. I wasn't the most avid user back then. Bought it in September 2014 and got my K1 in 2019, so about 5 years of use all in all.

---------- Post added 05-28-21 at 07:55 AM ----------

To be clear I can change the profile manually in PS, actually Camera RAW, but I have to do this every single time.

the lens ID is given when I look at the EXIF info of the DNG file (working on an IMac)--after copying it from the memory card to the HD.

Weird...

Hi,

Instead of selling my old K-3, I decided to use it for ultra wide angle shots with my Sigma 10-20. I usually shoot with my K1 mkii but miss the really wide angle.

It was sitting in my cabinet for over a year now. I updated the firmware, but every time I turn it on the first thing on the screen is the date adjustment section. No matter what. Any idea on how to get rid of this glitch?

Plus when I edit in PS, it does not read or "remember" the profile of the lens, although in the past it did. Its getting quite annoying now...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ha... no problem. That's fair enough. Just checked a few of your pics in the exclusive gallery. Quite a lot of expertise on display.

Hi. Thanks. I have thought about the modification, but I am also thinking about selling the lens. Have you done it? If so, how diificult?

Hi. Nice names for all your lenses. Which lady is your favourite?

My girlfriend gifted me with a trip to Scotland in 2018. A few nights in Glasgow, then the second half of the West Highland Way, a few days in Skye and and three nights on Islay (love the whisky). While I had my K3 with me, I failed to take any pictures I really liked. Someday I hope to go back and rectify that.

Hi,

Just recently purchased the Irix 150. The depth of field is so narrow. Getting everything tack sharp is a real challenge I am far from mastering. I got lucky with this one on my first day out with the lens. I'm pretty sure I could not duplicate it.

---------- Post added 05-16-21 at 01:45 PM ----------

Good to know. Does the magnified viewer really make a difference? I have bad eyes and wear contacts. Focusing on fine details is rather difficult and exhausting after a while. So I wonder if it would be worth the investment.

---------- Post added 05-16-21 at 01:51 PM ----------

Great photos. Very atmospheric, indeed.
Which lens do you use or prefer more, the 11 or the 15? I just bought the 150mm and am thinking about a wide-angle. Do you find the 11 too wide for the K1?
Grüsse aus Luxemburg,
Oliver

Great Pic. I also just bought the Irix 150 macro. Is this hand-held or on a tripod? And working distance from subject? I'm sure it isn't easy to get close to a dragonfly.

I don't have one of those. But I can definitely understand the sentiments of working a lot with a single lens. Can be frustrating, but also a great learning experience.

Yeah, exactly. Who knows. Though it could be some custom tailoring going on there.

How about working distance, how far from the sunflower were you? Thanks for mentioning the magnified viewer. I must confess I didn't know that existed. Gotta see if I can track one down here in Europe.
