K-3 III water damage

Very unfortunate thing to happen to your Pentax gear .I have dealt with this problem on more than one occasion in my working life in the Photographic Industry .The situation would be very hard to prove that the equipment should of survived the water damage , but saying that do not and I mean that think that the camera and or lens will ever be salvageable by having it repaired by any technician etc .I know that the water damage will show different faults no matter how much of the components were pulled apart and cleaned/dried out .I have had various camera's that were junked because of water damage and I tested them over time and they are not worth considering for anything but body parts .Circuit boards are the worst for water damage as they eventually drive you crazy with a different fault every time you start the camera .See if the distributor or agent can offer you a deal as it is at the discretion of the Pentax distributor not Pentax/Ricoh -Japan , be it a goodwill gesture on a new camera, as the repair option is not worth even thinking about . Best wishes and good luck

My Pentax 55-300mm PLM lens arrived today and I have had a quick play with it and have just tested some of the images after settling on +8 fine focus adjustment and would say that at 300mm the images are better than expected .Colour and contrast even at 300mm are pretty good but have yet to explore the forest as lockdown is still hampering some of my movements as well as an overcast windy day .At this early stage I am very happy bordering amazed at what this lens is capable of - but saying that I will have some images to post later .

I Normally get a notification from the Local Australian dealers when discount offers or new products are announced , received my fathers Day less 10% offer e-mail - today . 24 hours earlier I ordered my 55-300PLM lens for my K-3 as I saw the 10% offer before the Fathers day thing arrived - so great price for an interesting lens , it should arrive tomorrow if the Covid lockdown hasn't changed things badly -- fingers crossed .
Lot's of birds around as the traffic is much lighter in the beautiful Dandenong ranges of Victoria, Australia .Had an issue with the order initially as the Australian site did not mention the K-3 as being compatible with the 55-300 PLM only the K-3 mk11 and MK111 as well as KP etc , so I was not feeling so lucky after all and tried to see if a reconditioned KP is available from the agent - which was not to be so K-3 mk111 was my only upgrade option .Went to the Pentax /Ricoh site Japan and the K-3 was listed as long as firmware upgrade has been installed -- so almost bought a K-3 mk111 at a nice price but not really happy with having to spend that much -- eventually but not at the present with Covid uncertainty still at he back of so many decisions in life !

I worked in a Pro photographic environment and Nikon had the market for many years and then Canon offered to take all the Nikon gear and replace it with New Canon for nothing in many large media organizations. This sort of mentality has existed for years as many of the media photographers have the gear supplied by the company .I bought some of the Nikon gear that was absolutely trashed but still worked , and used it for hire stock .Canon wanted my Nikon client list and was hoping I would oblige ! .So the real world may not be about the best or most suitable equipment but what the accountants say's goes .Many of the photographers later bought Nikon camera's and lenses and charged the company equipment rental rates so the Canon stock was sold to staff .Pentax sales might look a bit week in certain markets because they don't appeal to the likes of Newspapers that have numerous publications and contract photographers . Pentax have products that appeal to people , not so much corporations or big business where impression and marketing is everything .Some people will see that as a sign of success I see that as arrogance and it doesn't sit well with me , but hay that's business.

I worked at a suburban camera store that was selling a lot of Pentax camera's and we were competing with a large discount electrical dealer and a large photographic chain store in the area .We couldn't compete selling Canon and Sony on price , but Pentax were available through traditional camera stores and it was a game changer for us and the Australian distributor as the other dealers were not interested in stocking Pentax .Using a camera and taking pictures can sometimes involve a lot of different factors .The best camera is the one that fits your needs ,budget or some of the things that I chose with the K-3 the SR ,smaller metal lenses etc .I borrowed a K-3 with 18-135 lens for the weekend and didn't want to part with it , sold my Nikon D750 kit and bought some more lenses and a flash for the K-3 .Had a full frame camera sold it for an APSC ? and was using a Canon 5D mk11 as a work camera as well as a Leica S2 and I own a Pentax K-3 - sometimes things aren't always obvious at first .Still love the camera but always invest in the best glass you can afford - my motto .Good luck !

Thanks for all of your very helpful responses as I have seen backfocus issues over many years . I was a Corporate /Pro person within a very large Camera store in Melbourne Australia and I saw a lot of Canon and Sigma issues with focus problems, generally always backfocus .Being Pentax user's means we are able to self resolve these issues which makes me even more committed to being a Pentax user!

Hello Pentax forum users , I have been a Pentax user for quite some time and just found the time to start with some minor issues posting my first thread .I have a K-3 and a 21mm DA 3.2 AL and a 40mm DA 2.8XS that both needed a lot of AF micro adjust on my k-3 body .Both lenses had back focus issues - brand new , and have sorted that out with the micro adjust on the body all good now ! .My Pentax 18-135 has the motor built into the lens and is perfect - no adjustment needed .My question is , if I purchase any more screw focus lenses in the future is it common that they should all have the focus adjustment calibrated or is it just some particular lenses .In the film days the bodies didn't have the micro adjust available as a user option - very sure ? .Thanks any help is appreciated - but the results I get after calibration have made a huge improvement on the 21mm not so much the 40mm .
