Yes, that was the problem! I had to take the lens off the K-1 to push in the button and rotate the aperture dial. Did that, and now it is working.

Thanks, all... problem solved. The trick was for me to take the lens off the camera so I could push the button properly... the way it was, the little button is right underneath the hump at the front of the camera (the other side of the eyepiece) and I couldn't get enough pressure on that button to do any good. I certainly appreciate all the help offered on this forum!

There is a silver button next to the A, but pressing it didn't allow me to turn the aperture ring any farther... until I took the lens off the camera! Then I was able to press the button and turn the dial a bit farther. I re-mounted the lens and it seems to work! Thank you!

Problem with Samyang 135mm f/2.0 on K-1ii

I have tried both settings in the "Using Aperture Ring" menu... the default is 1, which is disabled (the text says "Shutter will not release when aperture ring is not set to the "A" position"). I also tried option 2, which is enabled (the text says "Shutter will release when the aperture ring is not set to the "A" position").

In both cases, I changed the setting, turned off the camera, dis-mounted the lens, re-mounted it and turned it back on. I don't see any other aperture ring settings, and I have tried this in both AV (which is supposed to work with the K-1ii) and in Manual mode, which is what I need to use for night-sky photos. I looked in the K-1ii manual for any info on this, and I can't see any place where I can set or change the "A" position... not even sure what that is referring to.

---------- Post added 03-12-22 at 10:48 AM ----------

The aperture ring on the lens has a red "A" at the start (to the left of f22), and a red "KR" at the other side (next to f2), but the ring doesn't twist that far in either case... it stops at f22 on the left, and f2 on the right. I have the camera set for manual focus (which this lens requires) but don't see anything else to change. I did go into the "Using Aperture Ring" setting and tried both options there (I described this above) but that didn't help. Not sure what to do!

I just got the Samyang 135mm f/2.0 from B&H. When I mount the lens, the display screen shows a flashing "F--". I have moved the F-stop ring to all available choices but the F-stop does not show up on the screen. This lens is listed as being fully compatible with the K-1ii, so I am sure I just have some setting bollixed up. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Intervalometer problems

I have a K-1ii that I bought 6 months ago to do night-sky photography. This requires multiple exposures in bulb, and the built-in interval exposure does not work in bulb (a serious oversight, in my opinion). So I bought a plug-in intervalometer, in this case a Vello ShutterBoss II. But the mini-pin plug-in is super touchy, and I have to fiddle around with it--a LOT--to get it to connect and function; I sort of rotate it into various positions until I find one that works. It's not just my K-1ii that's like this; before I bought my Pentax, I had borrowed a friend's K-1 (not mark II, just the first K-1) and his Pentax-branded plug-in remote had the same problem.

Is there a wireless intervalometer that works better than this? Getting very frustrated with this situation! (My previous camera for night-sky photography was a Canon, and that had a 5-pin plug-in for the remote... no way that thing could get in there in any but the correct position. A far superior system.)

Do I need to have the camera turned off when I plug in an intervalometer?

I have wondered if the K-1 retails the astrotracing calibration if it's shot off (but not moved). One of these nights when it's not so darn cold I will try taking some long shots right after calibrating, then turning the camera off and taking the same shots again to see if there is any movement.

Do I need to have the camera turned off when I plug in an intervalometer?

I guess my message title says it all. I just got a Vello Shutterboss II intervalometer (cabled remote) to use with my K-1ii, and the manual for the intervalometer says "Turn off the camera's power before inserting or removing the remote cord." The issue here is that I am shooting night-time shots which require the use of the K-1's Astrotracer. Calibrating the Astrotracer requires me to rotate the camera in several directions, and that is pretty cumbersome if the cabled remote is plugged in.

In the past, I have used a plain remote shutter release (the Pentax cable switch 205) to take exposures, and have always plugged it into the camera after I have calibrated it and attached it to the tripod... in other words, the camera has been powered on when I plugged in the remote cable. I've never had a problem with this (and I can't find any manual which might have come with the 205, so I don't know if I'm not supposed to plug it in when the camera is powered on).

Any advice on this?

Deep sky pix with K-1ii: Mac vs PC

MossyRocks, I saw that post; great image, and I will spend time reading your workflow later today. I will look into Astro Pixel Processor, as I am casting about trying to replace my current stacking program (Starry Landscape Stacker) with one that works with RAW files and is compatible on a Mac. GIMP is beyond me at this point; I am a dedicated Photoshop user and am not ready to switch to another editor. (I just stumbled across an interesting video on YouTube yesterday, which has a pretty extensive explanation on processing deep-sky pix in Photoshop... I just tried to post a link to the YouTube video but the preview came through all garbled. Still having problems figuring out the correct way to use this forum.).

OK, once again, thanks for sharing all your info on lenses... you ought to work for Pentax. I just bought that 200mm lens from National Camera, and also have a Pentax M42 adapter on the way. Loved your comment that the high-end Pentax compatible lenses usually get bought up by you... LOL!

Oy... I have SO much to learn about lenses in the Pentax world. It sounds like all of these are screw mount, so what I need with my K-1ii is the Pentax K to M42 adapter... am I getting this right? (have only had the K-1ii since summer and did a lot of Milky Way stuff with it. I came from the Canon world so the Pentax system is somewhat baffling to me.) Your post is a wealth of info, both about lenses and the seasonality of the DSOs. We may head up to the cabin this winter, which would be awesome because our elevated deck faces south and has a great view of Orion. I need to get some gear and play with it... I guess the first thing is the adapter. I am looking at this article:
How to use/meter Manual & M42 Lenses on all Pentax DSLRs (K-1, K-3, K-5, K-30, etc) - PentaxForums.com

Just for grins, I will try to post a photo taken this summer with the K-1... near Grand Marais, MN. I took this during the Perseid meteor shower, and this is a comp that includes meteors from 3 different shots. Now if I can figure out how to post a photo to this forum, life will be good... (new to this forum as well, and finding it a bit of a learning curve as far as how to reply etc). https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=555790&stc=1&d=1637187196
