The one I have is similar to this one.
Unfortunately there is no tripod knob, but that’s about the only downfall I can see (besides the price!).

As for your question about attachment, it is snug enough to stay in place on its own. Snaps around the strap clips as well.

Welcome, Josh! I grew up with point-and-shoot 35mm film cameras, and was quick to embrace digital photography when it became available. Now I am back into manual film cameras. I love the way it slows down the process and makes me think about what I’m doing. My best advice is to try lenses one at a time— really get to know them for a while and what kinds of photos they are good at. Then you can start making choices based on the kind of result you are looking for. Most importantly, have fun!

All great points! The MX is small, but I got a leather half-case for it and think it improves the ergonomics tremendously! Just a thought.

I’ve got an MX and an LX. Hoping to uncover my father’s Spotmatic in the near future.
And for when I’m feeling lazy, a Minolta Maxxum that was my mother’s!

Welcome!

Shooting manual is a great challenge— but there’s always that one shot that keeps you coming back for more.
Who knows, you might even decide to get back into some film…

Enjoy!

Welcome… I’m a long-time reader and new to posting as well.

One of the first things I did as a kid was play with my dad’s Spotmatic— pretty sure the light seals were already broken, but I really helped!
When I’m not searching his house for that camera (it’s there SOMEwhere!) I am shooting an MX and LX. Love them both.

Enjoy!

Welcome to you as well! Which are you enjoying better so far, Spotty or MX? I’ve held them both and they are a joy!

I agree with you that it’s an adjustment, and it can be frustrating to not see what you just did. Try keeping a log of your settings so you know what you did when you see the results. It will help figure out what works for you.

Enjoy!!

MX vs LX… great question, and a tough one!

For me, pros of the LX include the smoothness of the controls, faster shutter speed, and it’s a ton easier to read the light meter when it’s bright outside.

On the MX, it just feels great in an old-school way. I got a leather half-case for it about a year ago and now it’s actually the most comfortable to hold. I also find the light meter more accurate overall to my shooting style.

I loaned my LX for about a week to a student who is interested in film. He loved it and I didn’t even notice it was missing! But if I could only keep one, I’m honestly not sure which I’d choose.

Hi fellow Pentax enthusiasts!

I’ve been reading posts and reviews from this forum for quite a while now, and finally decided to subscribe in a better way.

It all started when I recovered my father’s old Pentax equipment… but I have an MX, LX, and several manual lenses that I love to use— especially hiking and spending time with my family. Also lucky to have a wonderful local shop for processing/print making nearby, and several professional colleagues offering encouragement!

Looking forward to conversing more in the near future!
Tim
