Hi.
I have a K1 but generally I shoot with my KP because I prefer it's size and weight.
Anyway, I was doing a studio photo shoot and pulled out the K1 for a change. In this kind of setting I actually don't mind the weight so much and I really appreciated the upgraded viewfinder of the K1 in this setting. I was using the Sigma 85mm HSM so it's a heavy combo but again in this kind of setting the weights not so bad.
Once I started looking at the images in Photoshop I just noticed how incredibly sharp this setup was. Once setup using ISO 100, F4 with the K1 it is almost brutally sharp. I was quite surprised how bitingly sharp it was. This is comparing to the KP, iso 100, F8 with DA* 50-135. The K1 was almost too sharp. Not something I noticed with the KP.
Anyway, it might have persuaded me to use my K1 a bit more now. I still prefer using the KP but it is a nice reminder how good the K1 is. It's interesting to note that a lot of the new mirrorless full frames are only 24Mpx so the K1 still scores well in this regard.
The increase in resolution sure slows down the computer though.
Anyway both are fine camera's in their own different ways.

Well for me it has to be compelling feature wise or I can just continue with what I've got.
That means other than the improved viewfinder it needs more AF points and greater af point coverage. Decent buffer and battery life.
Really the most important compelling upgrades for me are said AF improvements along with better AF-C tracking.
Other than ok AF and poor video the current camera's are still good enough.

I agree that the Pentaxian Facebook group seems to be a more pleasant place these days.
It is true, PF is edging to DPR type vibe these days and this is sad.

Well top of the line mobile phones are now over US$1,000 so that isn't exactly small change. Just saying.

My XPRO-P has arrived and I can confirm that HSS works with the V850 Mk I with XTR16s. For the power levels to work correctly you must set the 850 Mk I to HSS on the flash.

I've first hand experience of the waxy skin with an X-E1.
Fujifilm also apply a high contrast curve that reviewers seem to love but loses detail.
I am still not convinced about X-trans.
They are nice looking cameras though.

They can comment on weight because it is valid that the DFA* 50 is heavy. All I want is balanced and fair reviews. Negatives and positives should be included. It's when things aren't balanced overall or when things are over-emphasised.
I do agree that they seem to be inherently biased against traditional DSLRs though.

I wouldn't jump to Fujifilm just yet. Their colours while lauded by reviewers are fake looking, ie, not true to life and their lenses are still quite large and some pretty heavy. I think m43's is better if you are looking to downsize.
The 11-18mm is welcome and the HD FA 35mm F2 is also welcome albeit pretty underwhelming. Really new lenses should be coming with built-in motors.
I have the FA 35 F2 already and have to admit new coatings are probably a good idea. It's colours are definitely old school compared to the DA primes. Rounded aperture blades if they've changed them would also be a good idea.

Af point coverage is a current weakness if DSLR technology no matter what the brand.
Certain brands have progressively increased the number of points but coverage even in class leading models is still limited compared to mirrorless.
This is one of the real benefits of mirrorless.

Hi All.
Previously I have provided instructions with the Godox Ving 850 flash and different Godox trriggers. It seems a number of people are upgrading or getting into the Godox system with the Godox AD200 and the XPRO trigger.
I am providing instructions in this thread. If you want to promote other brands or equipment, please start an alternative thread and discuss there. This thread is to help users get their equipment working. Equipment List
This is with the following equipment:- 1 Pentax K1;
- 1 Cactus V6 II;
- 1 Godox XPRO-C stacked on top of the Cactus V6 II. Note: Canon version of XPRO trigger;
- 1 Godox AD200.
Cactus V6 II firmware is 1.1.013. Cactus V6 II Settings- Camera system: Pentax;
- Flash system: Canon (Trigger is XPRO-C hence Canon setting);
- Flash Profile: Auto Canon (Trigger is XPRO-C hence Canon setting);
- Sync mode: Normal HSS..
Godox XPRO-C Settings- Set sync to HSS.
Note: The setting the sync mode on the XPRO trigger is important as it seems to trick the Cactus into believing a flash with HSS capability is mounted. If you don't you cannot set a shutter speed above 1/200 on your camera.
Also, I have found in practice that the sequence to turn each device is as follows:- Turn on camera;
- Turn on Cactus trigger;
- Turn on Godox trigger.
I have this info taped onto my XPRO trigger as a reminder. Only a single Cactus V6 II is required
You only need one Cactus V6 II.
Save:
(i) the environment; and
(ii) your dollars; and don't buy an additional V6 II that you don't require.
There is mis-information out on the web implying you need to buy an additional V6 II. You DON"T need to. PDF Instructions
I have created a pdf with pictures here for Pentaxians to reference.

It's pretty similar to the K3 if marginally faster in AF-S. I have not tried any action shooting in AF-C but by all accounts in AF-C is vastly superior to the K3 series. See review here on this site: Pentax KP Review - Focusing | PentaxForums.com Reviews
I usually go to the Australian Tennis Open each year and shoot a lot with my K3. If I go this year, its probably a toss up between the KP to give it a good test run in action shooting or taking my K1 and shooting in crop mode. I might take my K3 one day to compare but I certainly won't take two cameras on any one day. Later in the day higher iso is required so the K3 is not such a great option.
I probably wouldn't buy a KP for AF-C improvement. It's value is really in high iso, customisability, newer standard inclusions like wifi and tilt screen and smaller size if that's your kind of thing. Because of the interchangeable grips it's kind of like two camera's in one. If you use the small DA primes it becomes like a mirrorless and if you like larger zoom lenses, add the battery grip and it's much like a K3 or K1.

Good summary Des. The basics are simple to use and easily accessible.
I think usability though comes down to usage. While they are easy to use it's still easy to forget.
I always make sure I give myself a few minutes to re-familiarise with how they work before I do a shoot.

There is a big difference between the Cactus V6 (original) vs Mk II other than hss.
The:
- Original V6 supports analogue ttl flashes; while
- the Mk II supports digital ttl flashes.
Some people think the Mk II must automatically be better but the flashes that each support are fundamentally different. A number of people have bought the Mk II only to realise they should have bought a Mk I.

The KP is approximately 1 1/2 stops better than the K3. I have a K3, KP and a K1. My current favourite is the KP. It's that good.

I just thought I'd say I am using my AD200 with the XproC. This is a lot better than the xt32 and original xt16. I've never used the X1t so can't comment on that.
If you do decide you require a Cactus V6 II for hss please note that you only require one V6 II. There is some misinformation out there implying you need two V6 II's. Don't waste your money buying a 2nd V6 II. If you go down this path personal message me if you require instructions on setup. ---------- Post added 05-22-2018 at 05:36 AM ----------
Hi. I would just like to say that at least with the XProC and an AD200, you can get hss using only one Cactus V6 II. I've done it.

I'll get one but not really for the pttl. Mainly for HSS without having to trigger stack the Cactus V6 II.
I quite like working in manual so pttl is a bonus rather than a necessity.
I wonder if the forthcoming lithium-ion Cactus light gave them a bit of a push along?

I am glad they are still operating. I bought a pair and it's great for a single off-camera P-TTL flash.
Acon updated the firmware for multiple lights (good on them for this) but the original physical design means that it seems cumbersome to try and use with multiple flashes. I guess one good thing about the physical design is its small form factor though.
