I've recently been going through this same process.
I found an Astron Slide Duplicator on ebay. It's M42 hardware, and since I have a few M42 lenses, ....

The setup that works for me is: camera/spacer (for macro)/lens/Astron duplicator.
I'm using a Pentax 55mm/f1.8 set at f8 ... I figured this would give the best sharpness and focus.
A 30mm macro spacer gave the best image size. I opted for maximum image size to the sensor, so no frills outside the image.
Once set up and focussed, I just set custom white balance against the front white window.

Regarding the optimal resolution size, IMO that depends solely on the size of the final prints.
I've used 24MP as it allows me the option later to print larger or to crop.

This article gives a quick rundown on the recommended resolution to print size.

For processing the negatives, I'm using Darktable.

QuoteQuote:

Lol, your idea of chunky is surprising...imo, the 27(s) suits the M1 perfectly. The 18 f2 combo does become a bit chunky.[COLOR="Silver"]

You may be right. "Chunky" covers a broad range without adjectives.
Perhaps ..... slightly chunky for the 27mm

.... chunky for the f2 series

.... and tastefully vintage chunky for M42

X-S series are not weatherproofed ... perhaps the X-S30 will be.

An X-M2 would be a nice nice addition to the Fujifilm range .... but I'm not holding my breath.
(i.e. an X-M1 with weather sealing, custom settings on the PASM dial, customisable back button dials, M-C-S switch.)
Even the 27mm f2.8 pancake looks chunky on the X-M1, and without the viewfinder (= lifting camera to the eye) I largely snap incognito.

I've recently acquired an X-H1.
I'm in that steep 'learning curve' phase: there's a lot for my brain to absorb.

Here's a pic of my toying with a tilt lens. (Actually, using a 30mm M42 lens on a $30 tilt adapter.)

Firstly, I should admit I've never owned a Pentax camera.
My 'film' days were with a Nikon FG. I went digital (2 decades ago) with a Sigma SD14, and recently have upgraded to a Fujifilm X-H1.

With the digital era I have had a few Pentax M42 lenses.
Current M42's I have are: Pentacon 30mm F3.5, Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm F1.8 (this is a great lens), and a Takumar 135mm F3.5.
There's something magical about the look of old glass on a new camera.

I have lurked here for a long time, but not registered.
