K-3 file naming help

When the file management is set to "Date" mode, I've been a little confused by how the camera chooses to number the folders, sometimes it'll do 100_0918, 100_0919, 100_0920 and other times it'll do 100_0918, 101_0919, 102_0920, this is kind of becoming a nightmare for post file management as the folders do not sort right because of the variable prefix. Can someone explain this behavior to me, how the camera decides the numbering of the prefix?

One of the few japanese sellers I'd still recommend. I've bought a couple of things from them and the descriptions have all been accurate.

Flu card question

I've been thinking of getting a Flu Card for my K-3, but I'm not entirely sure if it's appropriate for what I want to do. Online information is vague and all over the place about it.

I want to shoot or edit a jpg in-camera and then send that jpg to an ftp server where I can freely access it on other devices. Can I do this with the flu card?

Careful with assuming the Miranda is M42-- Miranda cameras were double-mount with a typical external flange mount... and also a proprietary internal screwmount.
If the Miranda lens does not work on M42, it's M44 Miranda instead of M42.

I use a Miranda film camera and they are not compatible.

Does the K1 Mark II still make sense to buy today? Is there an Mark III in the works?

Having switched to the K-1 II in 2021, I will say there are a few areas where it shows its age as a stills camera:
- No UHS-II support
- Small and slow buffer
- Noise levels start to look bad around 6400
- Most of the lenses are older generation designs

I'm pretty happy with the camera all things considered, even in 2021, but a K-1 III with UHS-II, improved buffer, sensor from Sony A7RIII or later, and released with new design HD 300mm + 135mm + 35mm would be really great

Of course Ricoh could choose to do anything, but seeing as they're very conservative with release schedules and there's been no news, I wouldn't personally expect something sooner than 2023

sharpest wide-normal for FA?

OP making a couple of clarifications

I think the Sigma 35/1.4 is probably the lens I'm looking for at this point after reading the comments.

Shooting full-frame so most DA lenses are not really an option.

I'm aware that most lenses are sharp stopped down, I'm not looking for something to use at f8.0 though (not to mention a good chunk of Pentax lenses hit diffraction at f8.0 as it is).

The issue with a lot of the PentaxFourms lens reviews is they are largely subjective and very very generous and based on people using older gear/film.

The issue with flickr pools is many many people have their photos locked from downloading or are shot on crop cameras or are low resolution exports which are not appropriate for actually evaluating lenses.

I appreciate opticallimits, but by the nature of the testing, the MTF results cannot be compared cross sensor.

Thank you for pointing out the Irix, I was very interested in it based on some of the initial reviews I read, but after doing a little digging on the company and speaking to some people from Poland familiar with them, I think I'm going to pass on it. In depth reviews also point to a lot of centering issues which I know are pretty common in Samyang lenses in general.

Also, thank you for the information in the limited lenses, notable CA wide open and poor close-up performance are not what I am looking for and that rules them out.

I'm most on the fence about the HD 35/2 at this point, my biggest concern with it is that the design dates from the era of the SMC FA 50mm 1.4, which I had, and, was frankly not a great lens, even for its time.

sharpest wide-normal for FA?

Looking to get a wide-normal lens mostly for indoor portraits and some close-up non-macro work. I don't place any value in bokeh or lens character or fairy dust, just looking for whatever is going to deliver the best optical image quality- sharp as possible with minimal CA

So far, looking at:
43mm 1.9 Limited
Sigma 35mm 1.4 HSM A
35mm 2.0 HD
31mm 1.8 Limited

Leaning towards the Sigma based on my past experiences with both Sigma and Pentax optics but wanted to check to make sure I wasn't missing anything here.

Thanks

Hardest question of them all: What camera to buy?

See if buying used is an option, you may be able to squeeze a Nikon Z50 out of that budget if you're going used, much nicer camera than the X-T200

Also, see if she qualifies for a student discount from any of the major retailers, that can really bring down the price of buying new gear significantly.

As far as the X-T200... it's not the worst camera in the world if it's what you happen to end up with, but it is absolutely optimized for low price point. X-T2 or X-T30 should probably be the low-end entry points into Fuji system at this point.

I prefer to use a mid tele for shooting most things, especially at distance. I like wide angle lenses well enough close up or if they're necessary, but otherwise I do like my teles.

Thank you for the kind words.

I really like older CCD devices, they can have a tendency to fall apart at higher ISOs, but they are absolutely beautiful at low ISOs in a way that I feel is still not adequately replicated by CMOS sensors, even for all the modern technology that goes into making them. I try to keep at least one CCD camera at any given time, I particularly like the rendition of yellow and red tones and the lack of green-balancing I need to do in post.

Thank you. And yes, the 100 WR is good enough for me, little more CA than I'd like but it cleans up well enough.

Thank you, and yeah, it is. It's harder to make out than I wanted, but had to work with what I had. I've gotten a nice shot of it over the lake on a clear day though, so I'm not too fussed about it.

I used a Maxxum 7D for a number of years as my primary digital camera, was lucky enough to get one of the ones that wasn't plagued by crippling engineering oversights like the FFB. Absolutely loved that camera, I'd still be using it too if it had the slightly later 10.2MP sensor. Found the ergonomics, usability, and functions packed into it to be well beyond its time. I used at various points the 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 50mm 1.7, Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro, 100mm 2.8 Macro, 135mm 2.8, 28-85, 70-210, 75-300, and a Tokina 400mm 5.6. I probably got the most use out of the 100mm Macro and the Tokina. I really can't say enough good things about the 7D though. I think it's an often overlooked camera in the grand scheme of things, especially for the age and condition most of them are in now, but it was very obviously designed by a team of people who spent a whole lot of time using and handling cameras and definitely deserving of it's 2005 Grand Prix award. It's been hard to try to pick up other cameras since, and it's a real shame that that was the end of the line for Konica Minolta, I'm really not a fan of the direction Sony took the A-mount system after they acquired it.

I've sold off most of it at this point, but I still have my Minolta 9000 which is probably one of my favorite film cameras. It's just such a curious camera, probably one of the least intuitive real cameras I have ever handled. Very interesting as an evolutionary dead-end of a camera, beautiful piece of work too.

About two weeks ago, before winter hit, I went for a walk at the park with my daughter. I've been looking for a decent lens, and I'd just gotten the 100 WR and brought it along to test it out taking some photos of the old broadcast tower. The weather was strange that day, and when I arrived at the park, an unexpected fog had come in off the inlet and covered about half the lagoon. I'm particularly happy with the shot I got of the old piers in the water, as it's a photo I've tried taking a few times before and hadn't quite gotten to my liking before now.

K-1 II Memory Card Issues

I have Lightroom set to auto-eject after importing images, but it behaves that way regardless of whether the card is in a reader or the camera is connected by cable.

K-1 II Memory Card Issues
Posted By Irematic

I've just recently started using the Pentax K-1 II, I'm running two Sony 64GB Tough SF-G memory cards in it.
The cards are totally clean, unaffected by the recall, have been formatted multiple times by the camera itself, and have never interacted with a Mac.

The camera will intermittently throw "Memory Card Error" after the cards have been removed from the camera, the photos imported into Lightroom, and the card "ejected" from the PC and returned to the camera.
It is not one particular card that does it, sometimes it's the first card, sometimes it's the second card.
Once I stopped removing the cards from the camera and started using a USB cable to import, the issue has gone away, but I don't like this as a solution as I don't really trust the rubber hinge covering the USB port to hold up to constant use over a few years.

Does anyone know what exactly causes this behavior?

It seems like a step backwards to switch over to the old SanDisk cards that are widely recommended here, and I doubt SanDisk cards are even any better or more reliable than modern Sony ones anyway.

Always shot Minolta, had a Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D for a number of years as my digital camera. It was about due for an upgrade and there were newer features I was starting to want. I tried switching to Fuji earlier this year, but found the whole system to be buggy and poorly designed. Ended up just getting a K-1 II, despite most recommendations against it, for portrait and landscape stuff, wanted weather resistance, optical viewfinder, body image-stabilization, dual card slots, and semi-competent wifi. I've unfortunately noticed already that it's real fussy about memory cards, but hopefully that's the beginning and end of it and it holds up better for me in the long run.
