Recommendation for L bracket for K-1

I have both the Kirk and the RRS ...

RRS is very slim and it's actually a perfect match if your lenses are typically just the smaller primes. The reason I said that is L portion is positioned backwards, and it doesn't sustain the weight of the larger lenses as well. E.g. DFA15-30.

The Kirk one is much more solid when you position it on the L-portion. Doesn't move or twist. Maybe the 2 screws and the thicker block of ALU provides more resistance against movement. But it's bulkier so the additional weight may not be what you would like.

The above are the dedicated ones. I also tried the universal one from Promediagear and it's really useful before I got my RRS or the Kirk.

It's shot on FF mode. Unfortunately, the IQ is affected as I was behind very thick glass when taking this shot.

And yes, I think it's acceptable and reasonably good. Just try not to shift the composition (on sensor) too much.

Hey, Stefan! I hope my recommendation (the noddles) was acceptable.

I am glad you managed to get shots of the super trees. Great location for shots.

Best wide angle lens for K-1?

How about a very portable solution like the discontinued CV20 SL-II? If you can get one, the corners are okay from f5.6 onwards, great for street situations (small and compact and less intimidating), f8-f13 you get a not too shabby wide angle landscape lens. Filters at 52mm is easy to find and much cheaper too. ;-)

But watch out for instances where you can get purple fringing.

In this image, I am attempting not to lift the shadows as much as LR will like to and kept it very much what I think I saw.

Thanks, John.

How I wished Pentax came up with their set of Tilt Shift Lenses! I will buy a 17-18mm TS lense from Pentax (if they make one) immediately.

This feature was already there in K5 if I don't remember wrongly, but we don't have a lot of wide glasses that will have made it work well.

So yes, if I can deploy this on a regular basis, I will, to get the composition I want. In this case, without the composition adjustment, the reflection would have been slightly truncated, and I wouldn't want that.

It's the composition adjustment function in K1. You can do shift photography to a certain degree. Please also note that not all lenses will work. I really think that the new DFA lenses have that aspect taken into consideration.

@24mm. Shifted down +5 (so that the shadow of the light house is not truncated and more balanced).
And 5s was too short, so 3 shots multiple exposure to smoothen the basin water after some canoes went past the area.

RRS L-plate for K-1

I look at the RRS option. Looks really good that they adopted a relatively slim design.

I also have the Promediagear Universal L-Bracket for bodies without a battery Grip, and it fits the K1 to a T! What I like about it is that the bracket allows me to move it closer to the mount area versus having the plate closer to the screen (which is at the back of the camera). With the heavier lenses, such as the DFA lenses, I would prefer the plates are shifted closer to the lens mount section. Will post a shot when I get the opportunity.

The Promediagear one has rubber gaskets on the plate which grips quite tightly to the camera body to ensure no unnecessary twisting of the plates just like what the dedicated plates does. And in practise it seems to really work too .. This is unlike most universal L brackets. One up for the Promediagear guys.

There's 2 things that I didn't quite like - One is the relative thickness of the plates compared to most on the market. But even then, it's particularly useful if you use nodal rails with integrated clamps, and you want to mount square filter holders. The other is the center markings on the Y-axis, as it'll not be the absolute center for the K1 (it's universal L-bracket for a reason).

Do show us some great photos with the DFA 15-30. I am very interested in this one (though it's quite a lot of lens). There's filter solutions available as well. Only thing is it's got to be 150mm Filters!

I am hoping the new IrixLens will be comparable (at least) even if it's a prime. I wrote to them and they said that K mounts will come after Canon's and the Nikon's.

Sure. No problem with that PoV.

I chose a 28mm is a wide angle, and it's a challenge in many instances in a Cityscape.

So if you have constraints, budget wise, Pano is 1 way to go and get the best out of a non-ultra wide, wide lens. 85 would in my opinion not work in this situation (too close and will take too many shots in Cityscape) and the lighting conditions will have been missed.

But I'll agree not to add any more pano shots here.

---------- Post added 05-24-2016 at 10:50 PM ----------

I tried to use Lightroom but it did not give me a good stitch. I'd the PTGui which helps me achieve a better stitch quicker. Alternatively consider Hugin which is free.

My apologies again for going out of point here in this thread. I'll stick to showing possible wide angle alternatives. I only have the 28 and 35 currently for wides, so I hope to see more examples out here showing other possibilities.

It's tough as there's not a lot of variety out there for us, unless we go the older ranges which is usually a compromise in the edge to edge sharpness.

I recently added a FA 28mm f2.8 to my setup ... I thought it's value for the money spent.

K1 + FA28 (Multi-row pano image)

Along with the FA 35mm ... I am beginning to think how many more of these Pentax film days' lenses rocks with this incredible FF camera of ours.

Not ultra-wides, but wides nevertheless ...

Indeed! I am really surprised too. I have used quite a bit of sensor formats, but this guy continues to surprise me every single time.

So many great locations you've been to put this combination to great use.

From the recent Pentax Meet in Singapore.
