Mamiya Sekor 50mm f2.8 Performance

I ended up getting the lens and so far it's great!
Unfortunately, I need to disassemble it and clean the aperture and it seems that the Mamiya Sekor aperture mechanism is quite tricky to put back together correctly. We shall see if I manage to restore this lens to its former glory.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
While the name Beroflex has some history, this lens is more than likely made by Sun in Asia, with an average optical quality.

I appreciate all the answers!

I researched this lens and I couldn't find a proper review ofit, only the F2 or other variants. My question is, is this lens worth having for cheap? I can buy it right now for 10 USD in good condition.

At f8 it's already past its prime. I do appreciate the feedback though, thanks a lot! :)

It doesn't matter, I've seen the same lens as Beriflex and Beroflex, might been the same company.

Sorry for the late reply again!

I have been using this lens quite a lot, and even at F2.8 it looks sharp in the center. It's quite a good lens and I am 90% convinced that it is made by Kino.
In addition, I have discovered another lens that is the same lens with a different focal range, the KENLOCK 28mm F2.8:

Sorry for the late reply. I'll will get better photos that can be used for gouging the performance of the lens.

In the meantime, I found a lens that has almost the same casing as this Seimar 35mm. I'm talking about the Kiron MFC 28mm F2.
Kiron MC 28mm F2 Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

The Filter thread is the same, the same grip shape, the same front lens group looks the same.

I really wish to know what this lens is. Is it a Chinon, a Cosinon or a Kiron? The performance looks good, especially for under 10USD, but knowing what this lens is would be better.

I am officially impressed with this lens. Check the pics below, most are taken at F2.8 and F4. All photos were taken handheld with a mirrorless that has a crop factor of 2. No editing done apart from cropping to save space on the upload.

From the search only two lenses have the same 55mm filter size.
CHINON M42 - manual Focus Lens 35mm F2.8
Tamron 35mm F2.8

Not sure if taking the lens apart will reveal anything and the serial number gets no result.

Thanks for the reply. This Seimar does look a lot like the Cosinon Auto 35mm(v2). If it indeed is the same lens with slight differences design wise, I've struck gold. I need to get it clean and see if its performance is up to par.

Just scored this lens for 10 USD. It's called Seimar 35mm F2.8.

No idea who makes it, and even though it has the M42 mount, it has no push pin.

General specs I figured out looking at the lens:
Filter thread: 55mm
Maximum aperture: f2.8
Minimum aperture: f22
Minimum focusing distance: 0.5m
Aperture blade number: 6

Seems usable at F2.8, gets sharp at F3.5.

Anyone can chime in on who made it?

Unknown lens: Raynette Auto Tele 135mm f/2.8.

Yes, it does look similar with the Tokina. Now I am struggling to take it apart as I bumped it from the shelf and the aperture spring is loose. (uh)

Will keep this open and post photos with the lens open.

Just to clarify, I have removed a lot from this lens, all elements, all rings (both aperture ring and A-M ring) the mount, name ring. All that is left is the focus mechanism which i cannot remove to save my life, no screws to be seen no clips to be pressed, it's like a solid piece.

EDIT: Just removed the optics from the focus helicoid. The screw holding them together was hidden underneath the rubber grip, I had to peel it off but it will be easy to glue it back on.

It looks similar with the first generation Pantel for sure, but the second generation which I own is completely different.
I am waiting for someone to chime in, especially if they have used the Petri CC that looks almost the same.

As the title says, I just bought a unknown lens that appears to be quite good.

It's called Raynette Auto Tele 135mm f/2.8 and I have no idea who made it.
All metal construction, metal front cap, M42 mount, eight blade aperture, maximum aperture of f2.8, minimum aperture of f22 and it has a manual and auto lever.

What made me buy this lens was the price (20 USD) and the fact that it has a blue coating on all glass elements.

Can anyone chime in and try to identify the maker?
This lens looks a lot like the Mamiya Sekor Auto SX 135mm f/2.8, the Yashica 135mm f2.8 ML and the Petri C.C Auto 135mm F2.8.

Some photos of the lens below (not mine, did not get the chance to take any):

Edit: Thanks to someone on ebay, I have found a lens that looks 90% the same as the Raynette, the seller calls it a "Petri C.C Auto 135mm F2.8" Pics below:

Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar Zebra 50mm Focus Frozen

Sorry for the late reply guys. I have not messed with the lens since my last post. I am taking a short break from it otherwise i'll lose my patience and damage it further.
What I will try to do is use a small file and try to deepen the factory grooves in the helicoid, by doing this I hope to be able to get a better grip on the threads.
Apart from my plan of messing with the factory lens spanner holes, I have been dropping acetone in between the lens and the helicoid, I will try some lighter fluid as well.

I made it!

Heated the outer again, then aplied ample amounts of WD-40 and then forced the retaining ring until it moved and started to loosen.

The inner helicoid is stuck just like the rest of the lens. WD-40 time it is!

I'm not sure exactly that I removed the stop screw. But in many videos with this lens being taken apart, the outer focusing mechanism is freely moving, while mine feels like it's glued.

---------- Post added 09-25-22 at 02:03 AM ----------

Does anyone have a photo of this focus stop screw? I'd like to know if I already took it off. Thanks!

---------- Post added 09-25-22 at 02:15 AM ----------

Edit: Just tried to heat the outer focus rings, did not help at all. Both are welded in place, and I can't figure out how to get them separated or at least moving.

Hi guys and girls!

I just got myself a Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 50mm f2.8 Tessar (zebra) for 10 USD. The lens is in good shape, a few marks and dings on the casing but the glass looks to be in great condition.
However, this whole lens was absolutely frozen.

I managed somehow to remove the outer focusing mechanism from the optics and gave everything a good clean, however, I have discovered that the outer focusing (the focus ring and the other ring that has the thread) are completely frozen. I have tried everything from WD-40 to isopropyl alcohol. It only moves about an inch back and forth and that's it.

What should I do from here?

Vintage lenses for video

Hi Ladies and Gents!

As the title suggests, I am looking for a lens or lenses that will be great for video shooting, especially 4K video.
I am looking for anything between 50mm to 80mm lenses, with a price of under 200 USD.

What I am using right now are the following lenses:
Canon FD 50mm F1.8 (really good, but sometimes it has a lot of CA)
Pentacon Auto multi coating 50mm F1.8 (sharp even wide open but still some CA and vignetting)
Helios 44-M4 (good from F2.4 and above but sometimes not really that sharp in low light)
Super Takumar 35mm F3.5 (excellent for outdoor or when you have good light but in low light it's unusable)

I am looking at the following:
Yashica Auto Yashinon DS-M 50mm F/1.7 M42
Helios 77m-4
Helios 44-2 (glossy black variant)

Can you please recommend me other lenses that will work for video?
I am using a Panasonic Lumix G7.

Thank you very much in advance! :)
