would you be so kind to publish the first 4 digits of the serial?
I got my new lens too and there are absolutely no problems with it.
My serial starts with 9017xxx

thats today the problem to get a good working piece!
Mine is realy great, very sharp, no problems with front- or backfocus. Its absolutely new out of the newest production.
You should try the lens at your dealer!

are these in quality equal???????
Both have problems at the the lower end.
The hardest argument for the 17-70 is the aperature of 2.8.
But if there is realy no more difference the Tamron would be the better choice.
Who can compare this with corresponding pictures?
