Thank you guys for your answers.
Calsan, could you give me an idea on how much it cost you to have it corrected? And where to do that: in the store itself? As I have the Samsung GX-10 (equivalent of the K-10), I am not even sure if I'll find a solution if I have to contact the Samsung's poor Customer Service...

Hi,
Many times I took pictures on the coast and when coming home, I was really disappointed by the fact the horizon wasn't parallel to the horizontal borders of my pictures. Each time I blamed myself for not paying attention while taking the picture and promised myself to do a better job the next time...
The last time, I am sure that in looking in the viewfinder, I made the lines parallel to the horizon and in looking after on the screen, it was obvious that it wasn't parallel; the only way for me to correct that, was to put few degrees to the right to have it right. At home, I made sure the focusing screen was well inserted, but the problem is still there.
So my question is simple: where could that come from?
Thank you for your help! :)

Hi Jonathan,
If you are not in a rush, you may appreciate to wait the Mac Mini to appear on the Apple Store Refurb.
Last May 11th, you could have get a 2 GHz , 2GB, 320 GB, 256MB video for CAD 549 $ which is a rebate of 42%; but when they're displayed, you only have only few hours to order them as they are gone very fast!
Just my 2 cents :)

When you say "it costs around", you should say it costs 1299$ maxi.
If you're in Western Canada, you can find it at CAD 1050$ at Broadway Camera.

Hi photolady,
Your SR should be Off when your K100 is on tripod : check your manual on pages 47-48-49.
Did the same errors when a friend lent me his tripod as I was starting with my DSLR... :o

Thank you guys for your contribution to this topic : so many things have been explained. I keep on reading this thread again and again, many of you have good arguments which doesn't make things easier to chose... Before I was quite sure I wanted a panhead, now I don't know : might a ballhead be fitting my needs ?... Same thing with the center column :D

Hi,
After being offered a DA*16-50mm for Christmas, I intend to sell my Samsung GX-10's lens kit, the Samsung D-Xenon 18-55mm.
But I saw that Pentax has three references for this equivalent kit lens : the WR which is the newest model, the 18-55mm II previously and the initial 18-55mm.
So if I want to put this lens on the Marketplace, what is the equivalent with Pentax model ? Is it the DA 18-55mm or the 18-55mm II ? For information, I bought my camera in May 2007. How shall I consider its actual value ?
Thank you in advance for your answers

I do agree with you on the fact I was talking about paintings : just that, the first painting I am talking about previously, is way as clear as a picture... no doubt on what you see, and that was in 1866. A picture wouldn't have brought more details than this painting.

Same here. Porn is the fact of showing sexual act. This one should be qualified maximum as Erotic, or simply Nude and that's all. After, we do or don't like the picture for its composition, but it is everything but Porno.
I am surprise by the difference of culture between Europe and North America on that point.
At the Orsay Museum in Paris, second after Le Louvre by its size, you can find a painting from the period of the Impressionnists, which is called "The Origin of the World" by Gustave Courbet made in 1866. This painting is shown as it is with no restriction of age before entering the place. (Please, if you are looking for this painting on the net, be aware that if these two pictures are shoking you, the painting will have 10 times the same effect)
In France, even our bank note of 100 Francs we had before Euro (15 euros), was one of the most common bank you could have in your wallet, and you could see the two breast of a woman representing the Freedom (painting by Eugène Delacroix, 1830)
If you consider a painting showing a breast as porn, then I can tell you already that you can't enter in all the big majority of museums and castels of France...

The same for London Drugs. But it is not written on the site of Broadway if they are out of stock or not. Otherwise, you still can go to London Drugs when Broadway's closed.
When I went there, Broadway was open, and they didn't even call. It was like they didn't mind lowering the price by CAD 300$.:D

The prices are from Broadway Camera (two stores in Vancouver and Richmond) : they do the sale until Jan 08, 2010.
To save you time, no need for you to go there, both of them have no more DA*16-50 or 50-135mm. But I saw the DA* 60-250mm at CAD 1600$.
So you go straight to your nearest London Drugs store where you can find these nice lenses, and when you're about to pay, you tell them that you saw a cheaper price at Broadway Camera. Couple of minutes after checking at Broadway's website, they'll be glad to offer you a CAD 300$ discount :)

I saw the DA* 50-135mm at CAD 850$ after having bought it at CAD 1000$ last May 2009... :(

Hi,
More or less, how much does it weight ? I'm a bit worrying about the "extra heavy duty professional tripod" description :D
Also, would it suits to rainy west coastal conditions ?

Hi Russell,
Thank you for taking time giving all these comparisons and pictures.
In addition to the tripod, which one of the following would you privilege : the panhead or the ballhead ?
The panhead gives me the feeling of being more "stable" ; I mean, it seems easier to control the rotation between all axis compared to the ball head, where just one screw will free the ballhead in all axis.

Hi Michael,
Thank your for the link.
I saw already this thread, but I still needed to open this topic.
Imagine a guy, who's absolutely unfamiliar with cars, and he is going to an auto dealer. He reads all the brochures from all the models in that garage, but the problem is that he has absolutely no clue of what's important between all this technical parameters. He reads the opinion of the drivers : some are happy, some other aren't.
And the best opinion comes from a driver who owns a Ferrari : shall he follow the advise of this happy owner or wait for the salesman who will ask him what are his needs because he'll mostly need to drive off-road ?
This guy in front of all of these cars, this is me in front of all these reviews for tripods : if you don't know already what you're looking for, what kind of specifications or features are useful and important for you, then your questions aren't answered in just reading this review. Well at least, that's the way I feel.
When I bought my first and actual DSLR, the salesman told me the GX10 was WR, that was the model I needed : six months later, I learned the GX10 was WR, but not with the original kit lens 18-55mm... In that time, I would have appreciate to have the advise of another user who knew my needs, before learning it by myself. By luck, I didn't experience to take pictures under the rain during that lapse of time.
That's why I would like to not repeat this mistake on another accessories. Because then, I would have preferred to buy just the body and a different WR lens in spending a little more, instead of being in my actual situation, where I can use my kit lens outdoor depending on the weather conditions.

Hi!
I am considering to buy my first tripod, but I need your advise to be sure to get exactly what I need at first time.
After reading some other topics on the subject, I understand that it is important to not look for the cheapest on this kind of accessory. As I intend to use it the longest time possible, I hope not to make a mistake on this first purchase.
Concerning this tripod here are my needs:
- able to carry a complete gear (body+battery grip+lens up to 300mm+flash),
- suitable for macro as well as for landscape,
- not sensitive to vibration/wind,
- no worry in receiving rain or having feet in the mud,
- easy to carry.
And here are some questions :
- should it be alloy or carbon ?
- how do you choose the tripod's extended size in function of your own size ?
So, in knowing that, which tripod+ball-head do you think will best fit my needs ? What are the things to look for ? What are the things to avoid ?
I thank you in advance for your participation and answers.
