Ok. Please ignore my just posted message about the battery grip. This camera has given me fits of frustration. Anyway, I learned that I have to turn on the main camera switch then turn on the controls on the battery grip and then the controls will operate on the battery grip.
Sorry for the panic in the last message. But I will be posting a question about how to operate multiple exposures, which I will be using in 10 days in a garden in Atlanta.

I followed the directions in the manual for installing a fresh, charged battery in the battery grip. It is DEAD! I cannot use the controls on the battery grip the same way as the dials and buttons on the camera; there is no life. Could the grip be defective? I'd appreciate any advice. I purchased the camera, etc. from B & H.
