I have 2 K1000s, an ME Super SE and a Spotmatic SP2. I started out to collect Minoltas then the Pentax gear just started showing up. I've found a lot more Minolta lenses around, Pentax lenses are scarce in this area..

I found this old veteran a few days ago, used hard and battered but functioning. all I've done so far is clean the battery contacts. It needs seals but that's easy to handle. |

I don't know what is available to you but I've made mirror dampers from an old foam bedroll pad and thin double sided tape. I wouldn't use any adhesive that might get on the focus screen, even something as mild as alcohol will ruin the screen.

Any good auto parts retailer should have an assortment of O rings to choose from in a wide range of sizes..

If you get lucky and find one with rubber which hasn't exceeded it's life span that's fine. Most of the originals I see around here have cracks in the rubber cup. Way up there in the North country rubber probably lasts a lot longer than it does in the Florida sun..

The Seagull products may not be up to the old cast iron standards but it's decent and functional stuff.

I had to widen the rail opening slightly and mill off a bit at the bottom so it wouldn't block the film door. Wet or dry sandpaper and a little block of wood was all it took. I leave the adapter on all the time, it isn't very noticeable.
Paying 50 dollars is absolutely out of the question for me.

The rubber cup will rotate on the base for vertical shots. With the adapters I can use the same eyepiece accessories on all my cameras, Pentax, Minolta and Sony. My old eyes aren't very good now, I need all the help I can get. With the cup you can see full screen, with the magnifying eyepiece you have to flip it up. The Seagull products are based on old Minolta designs, they bought the rights from Minolta. I have the cup, a magnifying eyepiece and the right angle viewer.
I did need to modify an adapter to fit the ME super.

Does anyone know how common the ME Super SE variation is?

The viewfinder frame on the ME Super seems to be a bit different, I have a Seagull eyecup and other accessories and had to modify one of the adapters to fit my ME Super.. The viewfinder sits so close to the door that interference is possible when you open the camera If the door hits any viewfinder accessory when it's being opened it could bend. The Seagull brand accessories are good quality and work fine and come with an assortment of adapters.

White Ibis are my best models, they are good natured and plentiful.
I can already tell I'm going to love this little camera.
I used the 80-200 f4.5 for this. |

I found this waiting in the thrift shop last Monday. It's in very good shape, 100% functional.
I started out collecting 35mm Minoltas but the Pentax gear is catching up lately.:ugh: |

Thanks, but the conductive grid repair paint makes what could be a difficult repair a simple operation. The battery box contact is stainless and I couldn't reuse the crimp lug or solder. The wire may be aluminum, I couldn't get solder to stick.
I was concerned that the repair would throw off meter readings because of changed resistance but it isn't a problem. The corrosion ran up 3/4" into the wire so I had to splice in more wire. When dry the paint is physically strong enough to hold things together.

I troll around on the goodwill site but the descriptions and pictures are so bad something would have to be almost free for me to bite. I do OK on Ebay and even better just ordering from KEH, if they have what I want.

I used up most of the first roll on junk shots around the yard, took these on the way to town.
I had the Fujifilm 200 developed at Walgreens and scanned the negatives in my Epson 3590. I wasn't paying attention to settings, the air was full of smoke from wildfires.
Next project is to find more lenses. |

I found this K1000 with lens in a thrift store for 10 bucks, with fungus in the rear group, Further digging found an identical lens with fungus in the front group, and I paid 5 bucks for that one. The lens I put together from both isn't spotless but it's functional. The meter wire had been dissolved by a leaky battery so I spliced in a short length using Permatex defroster grid repair compound. The meter is accurate and the shutter speed seems close, it takes nice pictures. I installed new light seals. I haven't had a chance to use it much but it's ready to go.. |
