And I can even precise that the shutter button must be half pressed for the sensor unit to be locked in place. Try to do better now, guys! P.S. I know it's an old post but since I was recently myself wondering... :D

Bizarre thing with my K-70 shutter speed setting

O.K. thank you guys, I think I got it: in the manual it says that with general standard default settings shutter speed can be set from 1 sec. to 1/180 so the camera gives me just the maximum possible and that speed is quite enough, I was simply a bit puzzled with this operating characteristic. Now, yes I use the flash and I am in manual mode. That said, even with my Godox external flash I get the same behaviour and that is where the ehrwien contribution is great because, I thought of it too, flash must be in HSS mode to get shutter speeds above the 1/180 value. Kudos to you especially my friend and thanks again to you all, R.C.

Bizarre thing with my K-70 shutter speed setting

Hey guys,

Everything works fine with my K-70, I like it a lot and I know that there is no problem with the camera itself since I already made a bit of search on the Web about this curious fact but there is one thing I still don't understand: when I set my shutter speed to 1/200 I actually get 1/180 ( at 400 ISO and f.5 )... I read about limitations but informations I been able to find so far are rather vague. Anyone here could help me improve my knowledge on this specific point? Thanks a lot of course in advance, R.C.

Oh! unless you are using a TTL version of an external flash, you will have to set everything manually.

Hey guys,

I am using an external Godox flash along with a trigger of the same brand and everything is working fine... Now, on my camera, to be sure the signal will always be sent to the trigger and therefore to the flash when I shoot, I set the flash setting to Always on but, just by curiosity, do I really have to?

Thanks once again for you precious help, R.C.

You are right, M mode is necessary in both cases because the camera will not take in account the amount of light brought by the external flash, being able to do it only for the integrated one.

Yes, your numbers seem right too and no problem if you confirm others infos. Now, I already know how to use my flash in slave mode and since I've been close to purchase the Godox Ving V860III, I even know how to use it in TTL slave mode, which yes change the backlighting to amber. Thanks to you too, man. :-)

To BarryE and pschlute, I think you both have the right and exact infos I needed. First yes, the shutter speed has no real importance since the flash lighting is so fast it has no impact on picture brightness. And the values you provided me with are the ones I instinctively thought of so you are both, to me, right on again. Thanks a lot - and I mean a lot - to you, guys!

P.S. I have so far not tried the TTL mode but I already experience quite a few times the trickyness of the auto mode. For example sometimes you want the flash to trigger but it wont and other times you would like it not to and it does.

To Pops, I have absolutely no problem with that part of the procedure and I already read a lot of books about photography... The problem is only with calculations, for which my knowledge is not up to date and therefore insufficient. Thanks for trying to help, though.

Hey guys, I bought myself the Godox TT600 and it works just fine, I like it no complaint at all but I quickly realised that things would not go as I foreseen them to. In short, yesterday I took a few shots for the first time with it and my Godox XPro trigger and - it took me no time to understand this - since the integrayed flash was not popped out, the camera ( K-70 ) considered it as not active ( even if I set it to Always on ) and then raised the sensitivity to 1 200, which gave me an incredibly overexposed photo. My brother paid me a visit for pictures so I took them with no flash and it gave me surprisingly good results for the moment. But I really want to use my external flash beacause with the proper settings on camera results are going to be even way better. Now, the downside of it and the one thing I did not expect at first, I now know that I will have to use my camera in manual mode if I want to have full control of the shooting conditions. You can set the ISO even in auto mode but it will have effects on other settings...

So, I come to you this time to ask if you could recommend me a good tutorial about the manual mode, the way to calculate aperture, sensitivity, shutter speed an power level of the external flash. Thanks in advance once again for your precious help, hype.

In Canada there is no place where you can buy them. If ever you need one, you must order from B&H, which fortunately delivers on our side of the borders.

Backpack for Bicycling with Pentax Equipment?

Well, I am not a specialist in biomechanics but one thing is for sure, a low profile backpack with a compartment for the camera itself right at the less moving part of your body, i.e. approximately 8 to 10 inches above the tailbone and in the center would be to me best. Then, you'd just have to be careful about the way to spread the rest of your load. Hope it helped.

Yes, I already know that but this is not the point: in slave mode the focus assist beam - while not in use - is always flashing ( normal behaviour ). But thanks anyway. you tried to help. :-)

Oh! by the way, do I have to change any setting on my camera for the center pin of the hot shoe to be active? My question will probably have some of you laughing but this is my first external flash so I hope you will understand my lack of knowledge on this particilar point.
