Why not just a digital back for the K series film cameras? Most of the K series use the same back. Could also have one for the M series (ME, MX, etc.). I would purchase one of these!

Sounds to me if Pentax did do some updates to their lenses, you would buy used anyway. Price seems to be your primary motivator when talking about the newer products they offer now and comparing that to the used market. Some of the lenses are quite good and an update just for the sake of updating that may end up being a small increment in image quality may just push you to the used market. I think many of the camera manufacturers are bringing out updates with marginal improvements and lots of marketing hype to just to keep the sales up. As it is, very few people use the advanced features of the available products today. There is nothing wrong with the used market, if that market can supply the products that you enjoy. I have even been toying with completing a collection of older SMC and M lenses for use with my KM and K1ii. I have 5 and need 4 more. The older lenses are basically very good lenses.
One thing to remember with stuff. There is no PERFECT whatever whether it's cameras, autos, motorcycles, computers, home theater, etc. Each and every whatever is purpose driven and has advantages and disadvantages depending on purpose. Searching for the PERFECT whatever is a waste of time, just get the whatever that meets the needs to get you to your goal and enjoy the experience of overcoming it's disadvantages while maximizing it's advantages.

Welcome to the world of photography. I see you enjoy motorcycles too, I started riding 2 years ago at 64, I really enjoy it. Just remember to not get caught up in equipment brands and their particular status, otherwise you will end up spending a bunch of money needlessly. Another point to think about with photography is to learn to "feel" with your eyes. Much like for music in that you learn to "feel" with your ears. There are lots of books and other resources regarding equipment, composition, lighting, etc. but learning to "feel" with your eyes is something only you can explore and enhance.
Good luck, and just like learning to ride a motorcycle well, practice, practice, practice.

Completed. Kinda went way out on the limb on the last question. How about a Pentax 6x7 style DSLR (shrunk down a bit) with a 6x6 100MP sensor, auto exposure, mirror lockup, weather resistant, that has the old but updated 6x7 lens mount that will accept the new auto lenses designed for it and the old 6x7 lenses to be used in manual mode. Think a DSLR competitor to the Hasselblad X System.
Many years ago, I used to have a pretty complete 6x7 system, until it was stolen in a burglary, and I liked that camera a lot. Excellent results and I made quite a bit of money off that camera. I never replaced it because at the time, photography had to take a back seat to the needs of a young family, it happens.

I use Fedora. Rock solid and major upgrades are just a couple of clicks or commands.
The key to any Linux distro is to connect to and use the available repositories. I use RPMFusion.
For clean installations, I have developed an installation script that loads all of the repositories and packages that I use. I can load a clean install in about 2 hours with everything I need to be fully productive.
The only photo editing that I do is adjust contrast, brightness, and crop. Only on special images will I do a bit of dodge and burn. This is personal and not a skills thing, just don't believe in "processing" an entirely different image in the computer. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should. That's just me. Get it right in the camera and be true to the image presented to you. It goes back to the days when I had my own lab working with film and chemicals. For this minor manipulation I actually use gThumb, very simple and fast to use and does a good job. You might be surprised with the results. For more detailed work and slight dodging and burning, it's GIMP or RAWTherapee or Ufraw. It all depends on my mood that day.
If you migrate to Linux from Windoze, give yourself a little time to learn the nuances. I have been using strictly Linux since 1999 using just about every major distribution out there, and back then being a geek was required to get a good installation. Now, installation is a breeze and a non-issue. I settled on Red Hat / Fedora around 2007 and never looked back.
