So I'm gathering that a Pentax DSLR would be useless for lightning photography. You can't wait for NR because in that time you may miss 4 or 5 good shots. I'd love to get a K5 but if there's no way to turn this function off then I guess I'll have to look elsewhere!! The K10D allowed NR to be turned off but I believe this was stopped after that model.

Is was near there last week. I grew up there and it's not normally that wet in Decenmber. Here's a pic as we went past Mt Abrupt, a peak I've climbed many times;
Mount Napier - Volcano
Wannon River
Wild Rose
Ruins
Some locals
Kangaroo Paws
and many, many more. It was great to get home!!

Yes that's right, $5.00Aus in Cash Convertors. Check them out as they have no idea what the prices should be and you might get lucky. They were all taken at f3.5 in manual mode. I was just having fun mucking around.

Some flowers along the way. This photo outlines the harsh bokeh of this lens. Although it is very sharp it does what most wider angle lenses do.

All in all a nice sharp lens with a $5.00 price tag. It's fun to wander around with and if I wanted better bokeh I'd use a tele lens or macro lens.

I thought I'd post these from the front yard of our house. Kristian has been getting better and better at balancing. Finally he walked a good distance without falling down.

I just thought I'd give 45 degrees a go but I think it might just be a tad to much. Weddings aren't easy. I sussed out the spots for the photos the day before but as always the bride was 30mins late which put the photo shoot behind and consequently the sun was not exactly where I wanted it. It was the smallest wedding of the century with only 7 people present so getting people from place to place quickly wasn't a problem.

Here's a few more from the day.
I might have a look at the photo editing software you recommend. There seems to be a video card issue with Vista that's stuffing up what I see on the screen and it maybe the reason why PS3 is not functioning.

Thanks for the replies.
Peter, your white balance repair job looks heaps better. I'm not that great at the post processing side of things and I used the GIMP which I'm not really familiar with. May I ask what you did to change the white balance so nicely? Once I get my copy of PS working I'll have a play. What photo editing software do you use?
I to think I rotated the images a bit to much so I might rotate them back a bit. I guess that's where digital is good. The blown highlights aren't intentional in the pictures with the cliffs but the whole location was being blasted by the setting sun. The bride wanted a photo or three of the cliffs so I tried to expose the shot as best I could without falling off the cliff myself.
Once again, thanks for the comments so far because they are valuable.

I thought I might share a few pics from today's wedding. Half the photos were taken with the K10D and the other half with the KM7D. All pics were edited using the GIMP as I'm having trouble with my version of CS3. Let me know what you think.

I kind of disagree. I don't think it looks to bad and the lots of buttons idea comes from the KM7D which had heaps but each button had a function that made the in camera menus hardly needed. It was a very comfortable camera to shoot with but a bit heavy. This new camera and the A700, even the A100 & 200 etc have a lot of buttons and they are easy to use cameras. The new Sony will also work well with many of the Full Frame Minolta lenses and the range is similar to Pentax. Those lenses and I own a few are equal to anything Canon has they just don't have USM/SSM. I think that many will buy this camera if they can afford it and It'll be a decent competitor to the Nikon D3 if they get the noise control sorted.
I bought the Pentax K10D because it is the only camera for the price that has a weatherproof body and in Darwin that's a standard requirement.
I think the K20D looks great and the next body if it has faster AF will be almost the perfect camera. Lots of interesting times ahead.

Nice tips guys. I might go with the Tamron 75-300 since I'm hoping to use it in NZ this year which gets quite cold. It's also a bit cheaper and no ones complaining about it.
If the 360 flash can bounce I think I'll get it because that's all I require. I guess it depends how much more the next flash up the rung costs.
I found a few good prices on the Battery Grip for the K10D on eBay.

I've decided to get 2 new lenses from B&H. I'm certain about the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 but I'm undecided about the other, it's a toss up.
It's either the Tamron 75-300 f4-5.6 or Sigma 75-300 f4-5.6 APO.
There is also a non APO version of the Sigma which is the same price as the Tamron at about $150.00. The Sigma APO version has the red ring and is a bit over $200.00.
Question;
Is the extra $50.00 for the APO version of the Sigma worth it over the Tamron?
Any thoughts are appreciated!!
I'm also after a flash and a battery grip for my K10D.

Probably just one thing. I'd give them a little + exposure in Photoshop because they're a little dark on my screen. Nice pictures.

No snow here, just 30 degrees everyday. Maybe I'll move to a colder climate like New Zealand. I really like how the K10D has rendered the snow nicely and kept the details in the clouds.

During the wet season we generally get an evening storm to cool things down. I was expecting something a little more spectacular last night but the storms were a bit to far away to capture. The reflections are nice anyway I think!
Hopefully we get a closer storm tonight and if we do I'll upload some better ones.

Sorry, I limited some of my larger shots in my Zenfolio account due to me finding my photos around the place without permission. I'll resubmit the 3rd one. Looking stormy here today, hopefully I'll get some lightning pics tonight.

I decided to upgrade my K10D to the latest firmware today and that then inspired me to take a few snapshots of my son Kristian. He's a serious lad so it can be hard to get him to smile sometimes (gets this from his mother, lol). Anyway hope you like them.

I think all the systems take nice photos but in the end it's up to your needs and camera feel. If the buttons are in the right place and you find it user friendly then that's the one for you. The only advantage with other systems atm is for fast action stuff but that may change in the future. The Pentax K10D feels right in your hand just like my KM7D and that's what made me choose it. The only area that Pentax is lacking in is a decent flash system. Pentax if you hear me, give us a Nikon like flash system and everything will be perfect. I'm not mentioning the lack of high end long zooms because that may change shortly as well. So if you like the feel of the K10D then get it because the lenses available are nice and not as pricey as others and it really does have the buttons in the right spots.

Right choice!! If you haven't done many weddings you'll find using the zoom lens a heck of a lot easier and that gives. You can use primes for setup situations but off the cuff nothing beats a good quality zoom (I'll be in trouble for saying that I guess). Minimising your gear for weddings is very important for me. I'm new to Pentax but I'll be trying to get by with two zooms, my 16-45 f4 (probably get a 16-50 f2.8 once the production of them gets better) and the 50-135 f2.8. Both easily have high enough quality for any wedding because you rarely enlarge anything more that A3 anyway. The flash you're using should work fine. Have fun.

Hmmm, interesting. I'd say apart from FPS there won't be a huge difference. I would expect image quality from the Nikon to be very much like the Sony A700. The K20D compares nicely to the A700 in all areas accept speed.
