Frankly there's never enough for me in really good portrait lenses. I have the A*50, HD-FA* 50, DA*55, SMC 70, HD77, FA*85, HD FA* 85 and each one has a unique character. Just recently I even purchased the 70 in HD as well and I'm not sure if I will even sell the SMC that sweater rendering.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Greek: Μνημείο του Αγνώστου Στρατιώτη, romanized: Mnimío tou Agnóstou Stratióti) is a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Hellenic Parliament. It is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war. It was sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok.
The tomb is guarded by the honorary "Evzones" battalion of the Presidential Guard.

Hello my fellow pentaxians,
[preamble] I am trying to find the "rare" SMC Pentax-A 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 [https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-A-28-80mm-F3.5-4.5-Zoom-Lens.html]. Please note that 99% of the available for sale is the cheaper non-SMC with less elements and groups.
I even "thought" that I bought one SMC-A from Amazon Japan and to my disappointment they shipped to me the cheaper non-SMC one. Got refunded but I am still very interested in this lens for my 50+ Pentax Lens collection.
While I was doing my homework I realised that the SMC Pentax-F 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 ( SMC Pentax-A 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 Reviews - A Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database) has
a) same 12 elements in 9 groups like the Pentax-A
d) size/weight wise are almost identical with the -F being a fraction wider and that I assume due to the installation of the screwdrive.
c) MFD wise the PentaxForums details are inconclusive since they mention the "Macro" distance in -F (25cm) and the non-Macro MFD in the -A version; yet I suspect that the -A has also the same MFD at macro
d) surprisingly, the -F version has a mediocre ration of 7.34 and it's not recommended by reviewers while the -A version has a 8.83 rating; although this rating is based on 7 reviews vs the 20 on the -F version.
In eg the 35-70 A- and F- version PentaxForums does mention that the internal glass is the same and I assume that Pentax upgraded many lenses to AF by keeping the glass formula.
My question is whether anyone knows if the -A version does have the same internal elements like the -F version.
I did some tests with the non-SMC Pentax-A, it's veeeerrry soft wide open with strong CA but at 5.6 and higher F numbers it's sharp on K1ii.
Today I have the (non-SMC) Pentax-A 28-80 for free and hood wise it needs a step up ring of 77+mm with a wide hood. I purchased 58-82 ring and a 82 hood that is ok for 28 but useless for 80mm.
Sorry for "talking too much" but after months there is only one SMC-Pentax-A is available for 30$ + 50$ postage and I am not quite sure if the SMC version is all that better. FYI the non-SMC does seem to have a coating as the front element has a "pink-purple" reflection and before the official introduction of SMC coating there were lenses like the Takumar 135/2.8 that is described "without SMC coating" although it has.

FYI: My collection consists and OCD/LBA variety of 21 modern primes, 21 modern zooms, 8 vintage non-AF primes and 8 non-AF zooms = 58 K mount lenses, 54 of which are Pentax as the rest are hard to substitute with a descent/better Pentax . :)

For now, I ditch the 31Ltd in favor of my (new) 30 Sigma Art. Art is faster and god's shake, @ 1.4 who cares about corner sharpness. It's an oxymoron. All my fasts lenses 1.2- 2, and i have alot, I use wide open at nightscapes.
