The answer to your question is NO.

I had a 202, the K7 and the 70-200 and it would not fit. :(
Sorry.

"pro" lenses?

What focal length are you after?
10-20: either Pentax 12-24 or the sigma 10-20 ex xc
16/17-50: either tamron 17-50 or the new18-50 sigma f2.8 is hsm.
70-200: either the new sigma 70-200 f2.8 os hsm, tamron 70-200 f2.8 or the pentax50-135

There are a lot of very good 3rd party lenses, just take the time to make sure that the copy you buy has no focus issues.

That's technology for you! Everything you buy in technology tumbles in price, you pay a premium for having the latest and greatest at the time.

I do however see your point that other countries are offering a rebate, but when is the aus disti fair? Look at lens prices compared to other countries!!!

You could get a power pack tr-3 for the at 540. Perhaps sell the sigma and buy another better 540 secondhand. Even if you did leave the door open and find a AA battery adapter you still need to hold the adapter in the compartment for it to make contact. You might find the reliability of such a setup questionable, if it is that important I'd get the proper equipment.

Metz 50 vs Sigma EF 610 Super

Be careful with Sigma, because they reverse engineer the pentax communication systems, if pentax change it at all then you'll need to send the flash back to have sigma re-flash the firmware becuase some functions may no longer work. This happened on the Sigma 500's when the K10D was released and then again when the K7 was released. I had to send both of mine back twice for firmware upgrades to fix functions which stopped working. Hopefully this wont happen again, but you never know. I was lucky, mine were done within a couple of weeks each time, but others werent so lucky!

I am led to believe that the end user can update firmware on a metz, though i may be wrong.

I would either get the metz or spend the extra and buy the AF540, i sold both my Sigma's and got 540's second hand.

What studio lights to buy?

I'd go with an Elinchrom Quadra or Ranger. I have the quadra and love them, due to the small size and portability. For weddings etc they are great, i used mine recently and was very pleased. The downside to the quadra is that you need an adapter to use full size elinchrom modifiers, but they are reasonably priced for what they are. The quadra's are cheaper than the Ranger and the ranger is much bigger. One negative of the quadra is the asymmetric power distribution, i haven't found it to be a problem so far, but you need to be aware of it.

As the others have mentioned buy the lights with the most power you can afford, you can never have enough and will always wish you had more. If you don't need full power you can always turn them down, but you cant add more light.

pentax k5 ,iso setting and the need for f2.8 lens.

In general, f2.8 lenses offer several advantages over 'slower' equivalent zoom lenses:

1) Constant f2.8 aperture means:
- brighter viewfinder for easier focusing
- generally the sharpest aperture settings will be lower, ie f5.6 instead of f8-f11

2) Generally f2.8 lenses have a more professional build quality than cheaper zooms.
- better materials
- better glass
- higher quality internal's

3) Have the ability to isolate your subject with a narrower depth of field. While you may suffer a bit in sharpness, this can be very handy for portraits and other subjects.

4) Allows you to shoot lower ISO's at wider f-stops, should you need to.

4) Bigger lenses make you look like a pro !!!!! :D:D:D

These are general comments, not always the case though, there are some steller performing slower lenses. f2.8's are more expensive, but you need to think of shooting more than just RC planes, buy the lens that is most versatile and the best you can afford, i cant stress that enough because your requirements now might be different to those in a few years time. Good glass is worth the investment, because unlike bodies they hold value fairly well, especially good fast glass.

2x PENTAX AF 20-35MM F4 FA
PENTAX K 15MM F3.5 PK-A
PENTAX K 28MM F3.5 SHIFT LENS

PENTAX MZ-S+BATTERY GRIP

There is a lot more, all is in mint condition, i just wrote down the interesting ones. If you want pricing you could email them, the website is

Cheers.

4 days! Your lucky they must have had stock of the k-5's. I waited almost 5 weeks for my replacement and when I called kennedy's they basically told me they had no idea how long it would be. They didn't know when the next shipment was due, it would get here when it gets here was what they said.

I think a lot of the reason why canikon are purchased ahead of pentax has to do with the culture around photography. By that i mean the misconception that you need to have a Nikon or a Canon to be a good photogrpaher. Of course it's rubbish, it wouldn't matter what brand you have.

Another contributing factor i think has to do with getting a presence in shop windows. As a person looking to buy a camera, Nikon and Canon take up the majority of space in display cabinets in camera shops. If you don't know anything about the smaller brands (or haven't bought a pentax/olympus etc) then you are probably going to be drawn toward canikon marketing and hype. Availability of lenses and accessories plays a big part to, it can be hard to find stocked pentax gear.

I think it is safe to say that Pentax don't really do enough marketing to help their cause, not like the big 2 and even Sony now. Pentax knows what it takes to be a big player they have been there, but will they aim that high again? I doubt it, they fell off the rails for too many years and now it is almost too hard and too expensive to play catchup to the others. Instead they are trying for a small targeted market.

But heres hoping.... im still a loyal user.

Even if you could get one now, I would be hesitant to order without at least knowing the serial of the unit it to make sure it was from a later batch. I checked all the cameras in stock at one store and all the ones they had had the sensor issue. I don't know that I would be ordering from an online store for a while until all the effected old stock has cleared.

I sent my K-5 to CRK almost 2 weeks ago with the sensor stain issue.

Found out yesterday that CRK wont be getting the next batch of K-5's till 15/2, so 6 weeks without K-5.

I'm not sure what the hold up is, but i didn't think this was particularly good in a world where we have air freight.

I believe that there was actually 2 updates for the firmware on the Ef-500. I had both done, one then the next about 6 months later but they do fix issues with the k10d.

But you do need to send the flash into sigma repairer to have it done :(

I Agree, more wide angle is not what is required. But i doubt pentax will make anything over 300mm for a while, maybe a 400 f5.6?? But until they have a greater market share and support from more bird and sports photogs requiring those lenses i cant see them investing in a lens that few people will buy, not at the price it would be anyway. Pentax seems to be more about affordability for the moment.

Perhaps a good thing from Sigma's perspective though.
