Metal hot shoes dangerous ON camera?

I just purchased a one light strobist kit from MPX to use with my K100D and K200D. To get my Vivitar 285 to work off camera (till I get the remotes) I'm connecting the cord via the Nisha hot shoe deluxe on the camera body to the Wein HSH hot shoe connected to the Vivitar

The first time I mistakingly attempted to use the Wein on the camera hot shoe and it didn't work. That's when I discovered the Nisha needed to be connected to the camera.

The Nisha hot shoe is a metal bottom hot shoe. I'd read somewhere that these type of metal hot shoes could fry your camera? I think I may have read this in relation to the Vivitar replacement hot shoes which are metal and supposedly aren't suppose to be used "on" camera? The following video notes that the Vivitar metal hot shoe will/can? short out a camera hot shoe contact. Vivitar 285HV Shoe Replacement Video | General Photo Techniques Videos | Howcast.com

Would this also apply to something like the Nisha hot shoe deluxe - which I'm using for its PC connection.

I've tested the Nisha hot shoe out on my K100D w/no problems so far, but before I go any further with the K200D I wanted to get some more info.

If it's dangerous to use the metal hot shoe have I already potentially damaged the camera? Or would it be an immediate unpredictable short kind of thing that I'd know?
And would it fry the entire camera? or just do damage to the flash contacts?

Strobist question with K200D/100D P.C. connection

I have a K100D and K200D and I'm wanting to do the stobist thing starting out with the
Vivitar 285HV and I read that the strobe needs to be triggered externally via the camera's PC connection.

I'm not sure if the K100D and K200D have the type of PC connection needed for triggering externally? The three K200D terminals are: UBS/VIDEO, DC INPUT and Cable Switch. Is the USB/Vid terminal the K200's PC connection?

Also what kind of short flash cord (non trigger) do I need, and where does it connect when I wanna bounce the Vivitar by hand/off the hot shoe, since it doesn't swivel left and right?

K200D card cover tight fit

I've noticed that the K200D card cover is "much" tighter fit than the K100D. As a result its much more difficult to extract my memory card after its initial halfway ejection. There isn't as much room to pinch the card on the back door side. I've had to resort to using a fingernail and the tiny indention on the memory card with one finger. Not using a card reader isn't an option.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Recordable image # always 999/670

I just shot with my new K200D last night and the recordable image data is always 999 and on occasion 670. (I didn't change JPG quality during the shoot) I shot 400 images and the image number never changed. I was shooting hi-quality JPEG w/ the 8GB Transend SDHC, and I suspect the problem is that the data counter doesn't go above 999. I tried out a 2GB card and the image numbers counted down correctly.

Any advice on how I can get the correct number of photos I'm taking with the 8GB card when I'm in JPG 999 plus images? I'm a concert photographer and I need instant feedback, and can't really spend the time accessing the feedback menu and going through the Folder No/File No in the pit. Thanks.

DA* 50-135 will not auto focus w/new K200D

Only when MF is set to MF. When AF is set on both the lens and camera AF.C or AF.S show up in the viewfinder.

The focus confirmation beeps in MF when I obtain focus. In AF there's no beep obviously, and although I can move the focus point around--when I hone in and depress the shutter halfway it won't blink red - it will only show red when I'm moving the focus point in th AF area.

If the SDM part of the lens had a problem why than is working fine with the K100D? It's only a problem when the combo of 200D and DA50135 come together.

Other autofocus lens work fine on the K200D (see above) and the DA50135 works great on the K100D.

DA* 50-135 will not auto focus w/new K200D

Just bought a new K200D body via Amazon. My DA* 50-135 lens will NOT auto focus with the camera. I have auto focus activated on both the camera/lens.

The DA* will auto focus on my old K100D. So I know its not a problem with the lens.

My Pentax SMC-FA f/1.4 50mm and Tamron 17-50 2.8 both WILL auto focus on the new K200D.

I've went into the custom settings menus and tried every combo of focus setting possible and nada.

I'd assume since the DA* auto focus worked with the older generation K100D it would work with the K200D? Any ideas?

Auto focus is obviously working in the K200D since its working w/the other lens.

The DA * lens is working with the older K100D, so the lens must be working.

If it's not the lens or the camera? Help!
