I see what you are saying about needing to feel a connection. This was the third and fourth time trying to shoot a set up portrait and I definitely feel lost trying to pose someone which I think made a lot of the pictures turn out akward feeling. I will play with the crop more on these and see if I can get them re-posted. Thanks for all the great feedback!

It seemed like the vignette brought attention to the eyes a little bit more. I have been battling with it a bit though, I think it may be too heavy. Thoughts?

Here are a couple shots from last weekend. We didn't have much time while taking the pictures, I wish I could of had more time to play with lights. 20 second exposures, popped flash by hand.

i just took a look at a lot of those and there are a lot of amazing images! If you just had to pick an image from anywhere what would it be? Like out of all of the images that you have seen from anyone, what are some of the ones that stick out in your mind.

So I have been looking around for some inspiration and was wondering... If you had to pick just one photo that was your favorite or moved you in some way, what would it be? Could be anything, i'm just really curious to see what people come up with :). Sorry if this is a repost, just couldn't find it anywhere .

hey all, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with shooting concerts. Just found out that i may be able to take some pictures at a show coming up later this week in a smaller venue here in town. What settings and techniques have you gotten good results with in low light? I'm assuming that I wont be able to use flash

Sorry it took so long to get back on here to let you all know how it went. I have been without internet the past few days.

Overall I think that things went pretty well... not anything like I pictured in my mind beforehand, but well. My biggest problem was dealing with everyone else that was there. In the room where the bride was getting ready there were flower girls running around, sisters going back and fourth and moms there trying to get pictures with their point and shoots. This was all in a pretty small room with bad lighting.
Once we got out of there and headed up to where the wedding was being held I was getting pretty nervous. The ceremony was held in a different place than I was originally told so that threw me off a little bit. It had amphitheater style seats so I wasn't able to get some of the shots that I was wanting and also noticed I spent a lot of time moving around trying to find a good angle. I couldn't really get the timing of everything down and kept wishing that I was a a different angle for things like exchanging the rings and the kiss.
One of the cousins that was there showed up with his canon 5d and 70-200 but he stayed at the back away from everything... I think he was intimidated by all the Pentax gear
We attempted a few portraits with the bride and groom during the reception but I dont think my portrait taking ability is quite up to par. The picture quality was good but a lot of them were seeming really staged and kinda boring. I need to work on posing people and making things seem more laid back. I'm working on going through all of the pictures right now. Finding out that going through every raw picture and converting them to jpeg to put on a cd is taking a lot longer than I would like. I will try and get some of them posted later today. Thanks again to all of you that have helped me out! :D

Here are some of the first attempts. I just had a friend come up with me to where the wedding is going to be held so I could try everything out. The results were pretty hit and miss, it seemed like when I had the flash pointed straight at the subject her face would look really blown out and the background would be dark. For these ones that turned out ok I had the flash pointed up higher with the little white card on the flash pulled up and the camera set to P. If the flash is pointed straight at the subject what are the ways that I can avoid them looking like casper? Also thank you all so much for the feedback so far! it's been great!

it's coming up on the 29th, so pretty quick. I ordered the AF540FGZ and it just got here yesterday so i'm excited to get out and use it! I was able to get a friend to agree to come out with me to where the wedding is being held this Saturday so that I can play around with the flash and see how things are looking. I will post some of those when I have them and hopefully get some cc so I can figure out what i'm doing wrong.

Thank you all so much! I have spoke with them a few times about it and let them know that I do not have any experience shooting weddings and they are still ok with that. The wedding is going to start at 5pm then the reception is going to be at 6-6:30 in a different location. Both are in areas that have scattered trees. For a flash I was looking at getting either the 360FGZ, 540FGZ, or the Sigma EF-530 DG Super. What one out of those do you think would be the best to go with? the 540FGZ is just a quite a bit more than I was looking to spend. Is it worth the extra money?
thanks again!

So i kinda fell into being the photographer for a friends wedding. It's going to be outdoors and pretty informal. My problem is I have no experience shooting weddings and very little in shooting portraits :o. Right now I have a K10d with the kit lens as well as a da* 50-135. I have gathered that I will need some kind of a flash... Does anyone have any suggestions on good ones to look at? Im trying to keep the flash around the 200 dollar mark but would be willing to put out a little more if it would be worth it. Also is there any suggestions on how to shoot the event, other equipment that I will need, or things that I will need to keep an eye out for? Any help would be amazing! I'm pretty sure this topic has been beaten to death somewhere on the net but I wasn't able to find it. Thanks ahead of time!
