The upcoming K20 indicated that it uses CMOS. I read somewhere the advantage of CMOS is that it can take picture under low light conditions using extremely high ISO like 27000 but without being grainy. Is this really the case?? Thanks.

Are you using an after market lens? My 100D did the same thing until I switched to a Tamron lens and the problem was fixed. I posted this problem months ago. Good luck.

I went to grad school in Halifax at Dalhousie. The whole Nova Scotia coast is beautiful and your pictures brought back many fond memories of my university days. Peggy's Cove is one of the most beautiful spots and Halifax is a very charming city. Great pictures.

I'm glad we were able to solve one mystery problem. This forum is great. We should forward this to Pentax for their FAQ. I almost was going to send in my camera to Pentax to get it "fixed" but without the lens. Of course Pentax will find nothing wrong with it and send it back to me.

I post this problem with my K100 a while back and the problem was solved when I dropped the camera and busted my old lens and I got a new one (Tamron). I thought the dropping the camera had something to do with fixing the problem but in fact it looks like it was my old lens that was causing the problem.

Like most people, I debated over and over whether to get the 100 or the 10. I finally decided to be honest with myself. Will I ever make good use of the incremental functions and features of the 10 over the 100? The answer was no. Like most things we buy, we are always tempted by the next higher level products. It becomes an emotional decision rather than a rational one. But in the end, if you got the money, buy whatever will makes you happy.

Guys, I think we are on to something. We should start a forum/blog that just focuses on fixing things with slapping, smacking, hitting, dropping, wacking, banging, throwing it against the wall, shooting it etc.. We can call it whenallelsefails.com

I don't blame you for not wanting to smack you camera. But a funny story is that Sony camcorder had a common problem of not working with an error code which happened to me as well. I was ready to send it in and get charged $200 for a camcorder that was worth $200. I did a Google seach and there was a forum talking about the problem and a recommendation to just smack the camcorder hard a few times. Many people were posting that it actually worked. I had nothing to lose and tried it and guess what- it worked.

My camera use to to something similar. While in either the menu or FN function, the screen will just shuts off while I'm still scrolling through the various menus. It was very fustrating but I just leaned to live with it. However, a few months back, I dropped the camera and broke the lens, but the funniest thing is that this problem went away. I've posted this problem but you seem to be the only other person that have encountered it. I don't really have a viable solution to offer you other than send it in to Pentax. If you are adventurous, you might give your camera a hard slap.

Like you, I debated over 6mp vs 10 mp. I resolved it by being honest with myself as to how serious I was in photography. I'm not . I just want to take lots of good pictures but not great pictures. Therefore, the K100D was perfect for me. I think most of us have a tendency to over buy like people buying a fancy stainless steel stove to mainly boil water with. In the end, if you got the money, go for the top of the line whether you need it or not.

I'm pretty sure I did not touch the shuttle release while I'm in the menu and FN sessions. I just know the problems are gone after the camera was dropped. I'm sure this is just serendipity but I thought I share because it's sort of funny. Just like we see on TV or movies, if the radio does not work in the car, just bang on the dash. At least I can say that not only my camera did not break but actually improved.

I recently had a problem with my camera which was the menu and FN screen will just go off while I was still in the session of changing some parameters. It was fustrating but I lived with it since I do not change those parameters very often. A few weeks back, I dropped my camera and busted my lense but no damages to the body. Funny things is the drop seems to have fixed the other problems. This could be similar to people having problems with their Sony camcorder and there is a last resort suggestion out in the net to just slap the camcorder hard a few times. I had the same problem with my Sony camcorder and the slapping worked.

Tired all the suggestions with reset, taking out the batteries, shaking the camera . swearing at it but the Gramlin is still there. Oh well, might sent it back to Pentax if it gets worst but so far, I can live with it.

No, I'm pretty sure I am not touching the shutter button. I just think I have a slight defect with my camera that I can live with. The problem is intermitent, sometime, the menu and fn work perfectly while other the screen just go blank within a few seconds, sometimes, it stays on for longer and than goes blank. I cannot detect a pattern of why it is happening.

Hi, while I'm in the menu or fn session, my LCD screen will sometime just go blank before I'm finished with the session. I will have to push the menu or fn again to complete whatever changes that I was trying to make. I know this is a bug but not too bad that I will sent it back to Pentax for warranty. I did upgrade to the 1.02 firmware but did not fix this problem.
