My daughter's bonded pair of cats on their perch that sits next to her office chair while she works from home. No, there's no ginger cat named Ron though there should be!

I looked at getting something full-frame to go with the K1 II but in the end decided to stick with the 55-300. It’s worked out very well in my opinion. |

Just to re-iterate what's been mentioned above. Just got my K-1 II today and was setting it up. I turned on the Clarity function and then spent an hour trying to figure out why I wasn't getting multiple shots when holding the shutter down despite having set it up for that. Finally went searching on Pentaxforum and found this post and voila, turned off the Clarity function and continuous shooting worked just fine.

I had the older 55-300 non-PLM and moved up to the PLM version when it became available. Here's a few of my favorites taken with both versions of the 55-300 and either the K3 or the K1 II.
Pentax K-3 - HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE
Pentax K-3 - SMC Pentax DA 55-300mm F4-5.8ED
Pentax K-3 - SMC Pentax DA 55-300mm F4-5.8ED
Pentax K-3 - HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE
Pentax K-1 II - HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE
Pentax K-1 II - HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE
Pentax K-3 - SMC Pentax DA 55-300mm F4-5.8ED

There's more in my Flickr stream and albums. (I'm much better at posting consistently there than I am on the Pentax forum.)

I just want to add my two cents on the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 PLM WR RE which I love. It is my goto lense and I shot a lot with it on my K-3 and my K1 II (with a little cropping). I highly recommend it, particularly if you don't need a full-frame lens. I do 98% of my shooting handheld and it's done the job. I tend to shoot long and try to create images where the bokeh is as much a contributor to the photo as the in-focus subject. The DA 55-300 PLM version is terrific. I have the older non-PLM 55-300 and the PLM version is a definite improvement.
That said I'm now looking around for a comparable lens that will work with my K1 II without the vignetting that I get with the 55-300.

After a bit more reading here and on a few other threads, I did it. Ordered the K-1 II from Adorama. It may be that the K-3 xxx successor would have fit my requirements as well but with no idea of when such an item might be available - 1-2-3 years from now - I decided to go ahead with the K-1 II.
Again, thanks for the discussion, UncleVanya. It helped a lot.

Thanks for this post, UncleVanya. I've got a K-3 which I truly enjoy but I want a second camera body. So the question in my mind is what's next? A K-1 II or a K-3 II or a K-3 xxx whenever it comes out. My lens selection doesn't cover the range that yours does but the responses to your post helped provide some perspective.

I feel guilty starting a new thread just to announce that my K-3 arrived via UPS about an hour ago so I thought I'd join in on OregonJim's news. I'm now anxiously waiting for the battery to charge.
Any idea how long the battery lasts if you're shooting still shots, no flash?
