It was a rather tough week, so I decided to hang my hammock, and read Feyerabend's "Against Method" which arrived today. Suddenly, I saw two orange eyes looking down from the rowan tree, spying on me. Grabbed my camera, and shot this one.

I think, many photographers like B&W photos, although I know several of you out there like colour better. On the Dutch pentaxforum, in reaction on one of my B&W photos, one of the forum members said: "B&W is appropriate if you want to emphasize texture and forms. And some photographers think colour is nice when you want to accentuate colour." Saying this, I thought some subjects were suited better to convert to B&W than others. I like people shots in B&W, and especially street shots. Architecture can be great in B&W. But macro? And landscape?
So I started converting some of my landscapes into B&W. And I was very surprised, because most of them looked better - at least in my opinion - in B&W than in colour. I am anxious to know how your B&W landscapes turn out. So please, post them here. Let it be a thread where we can learn about B&W conversion and B&W shooting on the landscape level.
Oh, and sepia, and bluetone pics etc. are welcome too, I'd say. This thread is more about what you want to conceive than about strict rules :p!
To get things rolling, here are some from me, from a series called 'Sandscapes'.
The first two are made with the SMC Pentax-A 100/4 macro, the last one with the SMC Pentax-A 28/2.8.
EDIT: Although in my first post I only mentioned B&W conversion, you can post all B&W landscape photos here, so including the ones originally shot B&W, digital, or film.

This one was a bit of a challenge. St Oran's Chapel, Iona, Scotland. Very dark, only a bit ambient light from the two windows and the candles in the corner. Ilford FP4 Plus, so ISO125 film, which was way to low for this situation. My Yasica-D TLR, wide open (= F4.5), and about 1/3 sec shutter time. In the end it turned out quite well, in my opinion....

Some time ago (ahum) since I posted photos here...
Last week, I worked at the island of Vlieland, for me one of the most beautiful places in our country. Had the chance to shoot some landscape photos and I hope you like them!
As you might notice, most (in this case: all) of my landscapes don't comply the rule of thirds, as the horizon is just in the dead centre of the photos. For landscapes with such wide horizons, without much of a major subject and the sea and land touching and flowing over into eachother, I feel this is the most appropriate. At least I like it this way, more than 2/3 land-1/3 sea, or the other way around. Hope you can live with it...

Sorry for the cell phone pic, but I just wanted to show you a new hobby I "developed" in the Covid period: whittling, green woodworking, and especially the making of wooden spoons. Kitchen spoons, ladles, and eating (table) spoons. I only use hand tools: knives, axe, sometimes a saw to make larger stop-cuts, and a little stone for burnishing. I needed something to ease my mind, to stop thinking and worrying.... Cutting spoons empties my head, and I have to concentrate (otherwise I'll loose some fingers) so I have to stop thinking about the world around me...

Just a random garden shot. I like how it came out, with the bokeh and the impressionistic second Iris....

Yesterday evening, I tested some of the settings of my new K-3 Mark III. This one is made by candlelight and some dim ambient lamp light, handheld (with a too slow shutter speed, I admit). To make this possible, I had to dial in an ISO of 20,000, a number I never had thought to be possible, or desirable.... I must say, the camera performs for me above expectations. Of course, there is some noise, but I think if it is necessary, I can go for higher ISO without problem!

Last week, my Kp died. Or, better, one of it's vital organs stopped working, the shutter button. I decided to upgrade (after I downgraded to the Kp from the K-5), because I never really liked the Kp. Too small for my hands, I guess. Yesterday it arrived, and today I tried it. I must say, I'm a happy man!
Spring is slow in western Europe this year. April was 3 degrees lower than average, and we didn't experience such a cold April month in 35 years. This has one big advantage: everything is stretched out, all flowers live longer, it's one colourful show. These shots were taken in (or better: from) our garden, and the trees, two cherry trees, are in the garden of our neighbours. I hope you like them as much as I do!

If I don't know something else to capture, I fall back on this kind of crap. Just for show, but feel free to criticise of course!

Somewhat hidden in Palace Park "Het Loo" near Apeldoorn in the Netherlands lies a small cemetry. It's the burrial ground of the horses and pets of the Dutch royal family Van Oranje.

Last week we were in a holiday home of friends, on the island of Schiermonnikoog in the Netherlands, almost at the feet of the Lighthouse. I shot a museum full of photos of the lighthouse, amongst which this is one of the more remarkable.
