Do you have a CEX near you? One of my sons works part time at one.
Over here in the UK they send all the dslr lenses and cameras off to get rehabbed before they sell them.
The standard advice is to find out how to check the shutter count for the brand you are looking for and do the check before you buy.

Old Pentax lens on a new digital format

Some of the A lenses give great pics, I tend to pick them up whenever possible.
I started with an ME so I guess that I'm just showing my bias for the color and sharpness you can get with some of the old lenses...:-)

Static and dog hair

Years ago, back before CDs and cassettes, there used to be an item that was commonly known as a static gun. It was a small device with a 'piezo' in it and a trigger. You would hold it next to your LP and pull the trigger to let off a small electric charge that would get rid of any dust grabbing static on your record. The idea was to keep dust off LPs.
If you do a search, you can find anti-static guns on sites like amazon. I don't know if the gun would mess with the electronics in a camera, but it might be worth a try, I don't think it gives off that big a charge. Remember to pull the trigger slowly, no clicks allowed.

Padding shouldn't be a problem. Just get some dividers from an old bag. Over here in the UK, there are charity shops everywhere. There is always an old bag somewhere...

When I was in college, back in the day, I worked for one of the college's radio stations. We did King Biscuit all the time. They came in on LPs and we invented the parts of the shows that weren't music, so to speak.
You may want to have a look around and see if any of the LPs are still floating around.

Just did a quick search and this popped up....

Where and how to start?

Try the old fashioned, "I need to test this new 'lens, set-up, flash, technique, whatever', and I can use you for the test if you don't mind. Just pay me for what you want from the shoot so I'm not out of pocket."
It works on the mindset that they are helping you and doing you a favor and not that you are doing them one. Everyone likes a bargain unless they think it's charity.

I would check the lens review section. I think a lot would depend on the condition of the lens and how comfortable you are with manual.

Should I sell my A35-105 and 18-55mm Kit lens

I've been using Pentax since 85, so I have a preference for A lenses. I have a 35-105 and it's hardly ever off my camera. I think I may have found one coming up on a local auction next week and I'm seriously thinking about the idea of having a second one if it is a 35-105. My vote is for MF, but that is just my preference. If you have a good one, you always regret letting it go.

I have three lenses that always seem to be in my bag. First is a Kiron M 28mm F2 that I picked up in a charity shop for about $3. Even though it's an M, it just seems to take better pics than my Pentax 28mm. Second would be my A 70-210. Last, the lens that spends almost all of it's time on my camera is my A35-105. If I'm doing something specific there are others that get added or taken out out of the bag, but these three seem to be my constant standby's at the moment.

Unfortunatly this is probably closest to the truth. Locally we have a doctor that is known to have been pulled over at least three times. On another occasion, he and his car were recovered from the middle of a plowed field. Has ever been charged, let alone arrested, not on your life...:-(
RIP to the rookie's career...:-(

Help w/ Shooting a Wedding For My Brother-in-Law

To copy what has been said before, go to all the locations possible before the day. Try to go about the same time of day. Hopefully the weather will co-operate and you can get an idea of outside lighting. It will also give you a chance to plan out areas for any group shots.
If you are not sure of posing people, get with the bride and groom (and hopefully an assistant if you can find one) and do a few informal practices. This will give the bride an idea of what is possible and what is going to make her pics look better. And as others have said, be firm about your part but don't try to run stuff that isn't anything to do with the photos if you can help it. Check with the person performing the service and check that they don't have any rules/requirements that will screw you if you don't know about them before the big day.
Batteries/cards/batteries/cards/batteries/cards and a good assistant.
A lot of people will be stressing around you, try not to let it spread to you.

Selling Guest Portraits At A Wedding...?
Posted By opfor

I've heard of several people trying to float this idea down here in the Oxfordshire area the last few years. None have made a go of it.
Most people don't want the distraction at their reception, or the P&S crowd don't want to part with any money since they already have the pic they want, "cuz they took it themselves".
The last wedding I was talked into doing, for one of the wife's friends, there were two Canikons that were cousins of the bride. They sprayed and prayed like crazy then put everything on FB. We LOAO at all the antics as the two continually tried to out do each other, "I got x-many shots on that card....I got more...I've got a better lens...I have more...I've got more x-many MP....I've got more." You get the idea...:-)
The only thing I was responsible for were a few portraits and the album as the wife's gift to the bride. Selling prints would have been a non-starter.

I don't know if it has come across over there yet, but the new thing here in the UK is having photos of everything you want on your policy. The wife renewed our house and contents coverage in Jan and was notified of the new requirement. "If you ever need to claim, you need photo proof that you had it".
I've been busy since. It is surprising all the things you have in a house that you need to take pictures of.....
Every time I think I've thought of everything, the wife or one of the kids remind me of something else.

Something I saw on another forum last year. "Find an old remote control, have someone change the channel on your subject while you shoot."
Allegedly, digital cameras will see the IR beam from the remote bouncing off objects if they are not more that 10 to 15 feet away. Haven't tried it myself, might be worth a laugh. The other option was to take the LED from a remote and replace the LED bulb in an LED flashlight and use that.
