But the LX/M line was already pretty small compared to other SLRs. Not sure why they'd need to make it that much bigger. Maybe a little thicker to add an lcd. Remove the prism and there'd be more space for electronics. ---------- Post added 01-09-2024 at 06:13 PM ----------
LX because it was the top of the line film camera for Pentax at the time. They were also making these in the early 2000s too. Let's face it this slr is going to be a really boutique item why not go all out on it.

I'm not sure why they don't make a digital LX, a compact fullframe retro styled mirrorless camera. All the space saved from the lack of mechanics and film would allow for batteries & electronics. Surely something in this vain would be a fuji killer. Epecially if it could use all Kmount lenses.
If they do get to the film SLR hopefully it's a rebooted LX though.

hi there,
Sorry for digging this up but I'm in the process of re greasing my M50 f1.7.
I'm trying to get it back together but there seems to be nothing that stops it at minimum focus.
It just wants to keep turning till the whole front group comes out.
What am I missing?
cheers
mike
Okay just an update.
Wow that focus helicoid is not fun to reset. Would really advise against pulling that apart.
Now have both infinity & minimum focus stops.
If you don't set the focus helicoid right it causes this problem

Does anyone know a source for the grip that go in the front of the Super A? There's one on UK ebay but they want £20 for it. That's about twice what I paid for my Super A!

Yeah good point on the batteries. I've tried the batteries that are from my ME, no luck with those. Also tried a new set that I've had a while but they only read 1.39v, so'll get some fresh ones today. Would the ME super require more power than an ME?
The camera is just behaving as if there are no batteries in it. All the contacts in the battery compartment look clean.

Hi there,
I've just gotten my ME Super out for the first time in a year and it is only firing one shutter speed. The meter is working in the viewfinder and changes when I change the apperture. I've tested the batteries and they read 1.4v.
Any suggestions on what may be wrong? Or does it need a CLA. I've had the camera for about 20 years and can't recall doing this in that time.
Cheers
Michael

Yeah the black ones are quite nice. Kinda makes me want to get a Black ME Super too. I've had an ME Super since about 1989 it was my first SLR, I inherited mine from my uncle when he sadly passed away. So the ME Super I suppose has a some what sentimental value to me. That and it is also a great little camera. Pentax were also good enough to put my initials on it. :D The 2 ME's I've picked up recently have come in deals that included lenses that I was after.

Yeah I'd 2nd that! I got a $10 Kit from Jon a while ago, I've done 2 ME's and a Program A and I've still got 2 or 3 cameras worth of film door seals and a ridiculous amount of mirror bump foam left. They are quite generous kits I think.
Its a fairly easy process, takes a few hours the first time. Jon's instructions are very easy to follow. The mirror bump is probably the only real tricky bit making sure the foam falls out of the camera and not onto your focus screen. But it's not too hard. If you haven't already got one get a blower bulb to blow any crap out of there.

Not a super cheap score, worked out at about $55NZD for each one :D
Black ME in great condtion, still has protective sticker on the base plate. Light seals had turned to goo but I have now replaced them.
M28 f2.8, M50 f1.7 and M100 f2.8 all in very nice condition.
I'm continually suprised by the fact that there are still cameras of this age out there in such great condition. I now have 2 next to new ME's:o

yeah but what are they going to do with a fake name and address in New Zealand? I didn't give them dob, CC number or even an email. (how many times have you put this info into a internet browser, starting a email account, joining a forum, buying something online? Its all potentially there for the taking.)
Everyone on this forum is probably on thousands of databases all over the world. It was like that long before the internet came along, computers only made it easier.
Theres a story in the news here today that a Carpark ticketing machine in Auckland City has been hacked and anyone how has paid via credit card has had there details stolen. Your exposed to this stuff every day.

Wow, where are you getting this stuff from? Is it local to you? Yeah I suppose there is a bit of gear on Trade Me but it takes a while to come up. The flow is steady though someone listed the 2nd LX in 2 weeks last night.
All the stuff I've got has been in pretty nice condition. Both the ME's I've got, apart from the light seals have been in almost new condition, they both still have the protective clear sticker on the base plate. And the few lenses I've picked up have apart from a bit of surface dust and a little fungus have been the same. Although its the wider lenses that don't seem to surface that much, but I guess that's probably cause there weren't that many sold new here.
I'm from Australia and can remember when I first got into Photography the P30's where on the market and they mostly were sold with zooms and then once the Autofocus cameras came out they where sold in kits with sigma zooms. And the camera stores didn't stock pentax lenses.
This was one of the reasons that when I finally went digital in 2005 I switched to Canon as the lens availability was greater and easier to get in Australia. I think it has changed now though and I envy pentax users with the in body image stabalisers.

Yeah I think I've got to stop now, but I am looking for something wider than 28mm. Fortunately/unfortunately the price of these has stopped me so far.
Also if I was to buy any more my partner may beat me
Peter just saw the ME, K1000 and M135 you listed last night. It blows me away that there is gear out there thats that old, still in almost new condition and has the box!. Good luck with the auctions :D

hi Pete,
Sorry I don't think I'm going to part with the 100 that and the 50 where my main reasons for wanting the kit. I've already got a copy of the 50 but mines showing its age, It was my uncles and had seen a lot of use before I got it.
I've been and picked the kit up this morning and its in generally good condition. The seals in the camera have turned to goo but I'm in the process of cleaning them out know. The lenses have a little fungus and dust but I should be able to clean these up too. So apart from that it looks like they've hardly seen much action. So it was a bit of a gamble but I'm happy with the out come.
Not sure about the 28 I'll see how it cleans up and think about if I want to sell and for how much.

Yeah I've yet to buy any lenses from ebay further away than Australia, adding the extra $40 plus the exchange rate has put me off so far. But the NZD is up at the moment, 6 months ago it was down to 60 cents US, now its around 73.
With regards to the older gear I suspect its cause maybe Pentax DSLRs are getting a bigger market share? I'm kinda lucky in that respect as my interest in pentax is with manual film cameras so I don't need to pay the higher prices for A lenses. There are also a lot of cheap adapters on ebay now too. So this may be adding to the demand. This is the up/down side to the internet I guess it gives you access to a lot more gear but also theres a lot more knowledge of whats available and its value. I remember when I was a bit younger (before the internet ) and getting in guitars being able to find nice guitars and effects pedals in pawnbrokers pretty cheap now the same gear is fetching what I'd call premium prices online. I think the same has happened with older camera gear.

Hey SMC, I live in New Zealand our local Auction site never has more than 50 listings for pentax lenses at one time and that includes lens caps and hoods. By comparision you guys are flooded with options.

Na, He trades a lot of pentax glass, Could be a 2nd dealer. I think he knows what they are, not sure where its all coming from it looks like he mostly buys cheap, splits cameras and lenses, maybe cleans them up a little then resells but at a premium. He doesn't seem that concerned about how long it takes to sell though he's had the same M50 f2.0 up for what seems like a couple of months now. Thats the good/bad thing about trademe if your inclined you can see via the feedback what people have been up to! I know theres nothing wrong with what he is doing, we do live in a capitalist society, its just a little frustraing when your also interested in buying the same gear in the same small 2nd hand market.:(
Anyhow I should stop whinging, after all I have got some new toys to pickup tommorow.

I just had a bid off with Ford Transit and feel kinda bad about it. Sorry :o. Was there anything in that auction that you particually wanted? I've already got a nice copy of the M28 so may be looking at selling this one on. Its kinda frustrating with the limited 2nd hand pentax market here in New Zealand. Especially when you see the deals that some of the other people on this forum get in the States.
There was M50 f1.4 that sold on TM a few weeks ago and then the buyer put it back up straight way for over twice what he bought it for. I know theres nothing against this but to me this kinda sucks in such a small 2nd hand market.

Hey Stu,
as Dangermouse has said you can open the lens from the front by unscrewing the ring with the writing on. I got one of these from a local rubber supply store that makes turning that ring real easy. See this post in this thread. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/76296-smc-pent...tml#post777543
I've cleaned my M50 f1.7 a while ago so I can't remember if I only opened it from the front or from the back as well. I actually had the whole apperture assembly fall out whilst I was doing this which freaked me out at first but I was able to work out how it all went back together easy enough.
Just make sure your working on a nice big clean well lit space so you don't loose any of the little screws from the inside. You should be able to find some more info here about cleaning the iris'.
They are pretty simple and relatively easy to work on though. Good Luck!
