Sorry, fingers quicker than my brain...

Bump for Sergey, though. I had a nice copy of the same lens in Nikon AF mount years ago.

SF1 split prism focus screen?

Guys, thanks again.

Made the swap tonight - my SF1 is now a MF monster!

Like an idiot, I put a scratch in the screen when removing it from the MZ-S. Apparently the MZ screen isn't interchangeable. Had to "carefully" destroy the frame. Luckily, it's unobtrusive.

SF1 split prism focus screen?

Yes, thank you - precisely what I was hoping to hear!

I was perhaps a little harsh on the ZX-M, by the way. Controls seem well-placed, but it's insanely unbalanced with my 19-35mm Tokina mounted on it. Also, I've got other MF bodies that use $0.10 LR44 batteries. :)

SF1 split prism focus screen?

Hi,

Will keep it short - I have a SF1 that could really use a proper MF focus screen.

Are any with split prism readily available? Any common swaps? In particular, I have a ZX-M that came attached to a lens. I wouldn't use it seriously - weird-ass battery and way too chintzy - any chance that screen will swap in?

Cheers,
Drew

Compatibility issues with old AF bodies, Sigma lenses?

Thanks for the helpful information.

I've cleaned contacts on lens and body and checked again just to make sure I'm not crazy - the body drives the Tamron 19-35 and the 18-55 DA (!) just fine, but will not autofocus the Sigma. Likewise, the Sigma still focuses just fine on my K10D.

I guess I'm gonna punt and unload the 24-70. It's a real useful range for a walk-around, but only makes sense to me on FF. If it's gonna be MF only, I'd just as soon walk around with a 28/2.8. This is the 24-70/3.5-5.6 by the way, not the constant 2.8, so no great shakes.

Still wish I understood the problem, though. :)

Thanks - makes most sense to me that this would be a physical compatibility issue with the screw drive. I can spin the focus ring after mounting and get the ring to "lock" into place as expected, but that doesn't mean much.

Is there a pin/pins on the lens mount that tells the camera if AF is present? There must be, or the focus drive would whack back and forth with an M lens and AF selected on the body. Anyone know what it is? Electrical, physical?

I could easily be wrong, but I wouldn't have thought that the old-style KAF lenses contained any real firmware. Whatever logic needed for a focus decision is in the camera, isn't it?

I recently got an SF1 body. I have an ME Super as well, but I'm coming back again from Nikon-land got used to shooting an N90 and intended this as a replacement. I do appreciate AF/AE for walk-around and city shooting where I want to squeeze off a shot without fiddling.

Funny thing is that I have a Sigma 24-70 that will not autofocus on this body. It works fine on my K10D so I can eliminate a physical problem with the lens, and I have a Tokina 19-35 that focuses on the SF1 which likewise should a problem with the body. The Sigma's auto aperture does work correctly on the SF1.

Are there any known compatibility issues with old KAF bodies and Sigma lenses? I've searched here and haven't come up with anything. My previous understanding was that KAF is KAF and hadn't previously heard of any Canon-style compatibility problems with third party lenses.

Cheers,
Drew

Hey everyone. Like the title says, I'm looking for a reasonable deal on a 16-45mm. I had one of these before and, foolishly, sold it. I'm hoping to pick another copy up for around $225 but this is negotiable. Need clean glass and functional mechanics; I could care less about a box or barrel wear.

Let me know if you've got one you can part with?

Thanks!
Drew

UPDATE: K10D, 18-55 and 75-300 sold.

16-45mm still available!

Hey everyone!

It's time once again for a minor, GAS-related equipment purge. Offering the following stuff to the friendly Pentax community before resorting to eBay.

Shipping prices are for US only; will ship to Canada at cost which may be higher. This is a busy week for me - be aware that I may not be able to ship immediately, but definitely can within a few days of purchase. Prefer PayPal, but will be happy to meet up if you're in metro Boston.

Apologies for the photos, which were about the best I could do with a pocket digicam. I'm temporarily without a DSLR and this didn't seem like a reasonable use of the P645.

Pentax K10D body. Super clean, dead mint really, with under 3k shutter clicks. Comes with box, original paperwork, AV cables, battery, charger, spare battery, Pentax wired remote. This K10D is almost indistinguishable from new. $365 plus $15 shipping. SOLD!

Pentax DA 16-45mm f/4 lens. Comes with hood, front and rear caps. Very clean, glass is in great shape, no discernable dust. Working perfectly. I don't have original packaging for this one. $260 plus $10 shipping.

Pentax DA 18-55mm kit lens. In fine condition with hood, front and rear caps, comes in original box. Probably not much else to say about the 18-55, but they're a good value if you need one. $50 plus $10 shipping. SOLD!

Tamron AF 75-300 f/4-5.6 LD lens. Again, hard to tell from new. This is a generation behind current (not the "Di" designation which may be meaningless) and most of you are probably aware of it. Actually pretty decent considering its price and position in the lineup. Comes with hood, front and rear caps. $90 plus $10 shipping. SOLD!

Well, I was thanking the guy who bought it.

The K10D and Sigma 17-35mm are listed on eBay. In accordance with The Rules, I won't link to the auctions. :) Until I say otherwise, both are still available to forum members at the listed prices.

Best,
Drew

Hey Ryan, unfortunately I don't have the hood for the Sigma, just the original front/rear caps and an 82mm UV filter for it. f/4 is at the long end of the range obviously but I'm not sure at which FL it goes there... if I get a chance I'll try to mount it on the K10 and report on that.

Quality is quite good - wouldn't say breathtaking - but very good for a wide zoom at this price point. This is a full-frame lens and - probably goes without saying - 17mm is especially fun on a film/FF body. On the K10 it's a little wider and faster than the kit lens. KEH sells these at or around $200 in the various mounts.

There have been a couple versions of this lens - this is the Sigma EX Aspherical with the 82mm filter. There's at least one newer version, full frame but digitally "optimized", with a 77mm filter size. There may be an in-between version with a 77mm filter and the older optical forumla, but I might be making that up. Like a lot of wides, there's some softness in the corners that clears up nicely around f/5.6-8.

I'm including a generic UV filter for it, good for protection anyway, which is hopefully all anyone should need. You probably don't wanna buy an 82mm CPL for a $150 lens... :)

The A50/1.7 - maybe my favorite K-mount lens for any price - is sold, so that means the switch is on. I've still got two bodies and a very nice wide zoom up for sale.

I've removed shipping charges (CONUS only) on both bodies. Surely someone could use a dead mint DS for $220 shipped, or a nice K10D for $350.
Shutter count is 599 on the DS!

Thanks!
Drew

You know, I've been annoyed by the same thing and did it by reflex anyway... I think in an effort to keep my PM'box manageable.

I wouldn't object to leaving sale prices in there, just want to make it as clear as possible when items are no longer available. People tend not to read an entire post - notice that I got a "useless without pictures!" reply shortly after my post despite mentioning twice that I was at work and would add photos in the evening? :p

I'll leave them here, I guess, further in the thread: $50 for the 28-200, $50 for the A50/1.7, $30 for the 135/2.8 and $10 for the Pentax Remote F.

Best,
Drew

50/1.7 sold. Thanks!

Need buyers for the bodies, I guess. And the 17-35! As I said to the buyer in a PM, I think parting with the 50 seals it for me. Despite the occasional inconvenience that comes with a MF lens, the 50/1.7 was probably the best I've used... pretty exceptional.
