A Question On My New 540.

In the manual, it says "Hold the bounce lock release button and tilt bounce angle at -10 degree."

The button does work and is required to obtain the negative degree angle.

The manual doesn't mention using the button any other time except for the -10 degree angle.

Maybe this is the only time it is required. The click stops all work correctly at the other angles.

IMO, I believe they are working correctly.

I just got my 540 today and it is the same as yours, the side button seems to have no purpose. The head will rotate and tilt easily with or without pressing the button, just like the AF500FTZ (without a button).

I thought something was up with it firing at full power, it was startling a few people

Thanks for the help and info, I guess it's time for a new 540 flash. :)

I have a question about the AF-500FTZ. Is it compatible with the K10D?

I have a AF-500FTZ that I used with my *istD and it always worked great.

Last weekend, with my K10D, Sigma 24-70 F2.8 lens, and AF-500FTZ, I took several photos at an indoor wedding. It was sunny outside, and in a large fairly well lit church and several of my photos were extremely overexposed. Some with the subject 25-30 feet away from the camera. The flash seemed to be operating at full power all the time and was taking a long time to recharge (with fully charged NiMh batteries).

I was wondering if there was a compatibility problem between the flash and camera, or maybe a problem with one of them or me. I've not had any problems with the flash when I used it with my *istD.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Who has a K1000?

I still have a couple K1000's that I purchased new in the early 80's. This was my first SLR and first 35mm. The first one has a problem with flash sync since it was new, it will not take flash pictures even after being sent for repair. Other than that, it takes excellent photos, just forget trying to use a flash with it. I bought the second one to replace the first and it came with the 1:1.4 50mm lens. I haven't taken any photos with them in several years, but both are great condition. My next camera was a ZX-7, then went digital with an *isd. :)
