I have a lot of Canon lens that can take the same photo as yours. But f/2 at 200mm, it is something unique.

Does it AF? Sorry, manual focus lens is out of the competition.

Pentax KM-good and bad about this camera

Same here. My km had severe front focus on large aperture f/1.8 - f/2.8 when I first received it. Sent it to Pentax for AF adjustment. It comes back with some big improvement, but it still tends to front focus. BTW, I only used the center AF point.

Later I found that if I shoot my wife and focus on her eyes, I have to position her left eye on the top-left corner of () at horizontal composition, or her right eye on the bottom-right corner of () at vertical composition (counter-clockwise rotate 90 degree). In such cases, the majority of the () area is filled by her face. Then the AF is much more accurate than I directly position her eye in the center of ().

I also saw some Chinese users having similar front-focus issues on some online forums.

As the aperture becomes smaller (say, f/4), the increased depth-of-field covers up the front-focus problem.

if you have used the multi-controller on canon X0D to choose AF point, you will love to switch AF point more often. just one click, that's it. :D

AF: auto-focus

FA 77/FA 31: pentax limited lens FA 77mm f/1.8 limited and FA 31mm f/1.8 limited

BTW, I only shoot raw. So my comparison of noise level at high ISO is based on raw files.

Yeap, that is a advantage of K20D I think. I like longer continuous burst actually.

I happen to come cross this post, and I happen to own both Canon 20D and km. Comparing 20D to km isn't exactly fair because they are targeting different market segments. Anyway, what I find are:

20D pro: better construction. lower noise at ISO800 (truly amazing for a 4 year old camera). faster shooting speed (5fps). better AF (9 selectable AF points and 5 of which are usable, faster AF speed). easy to switch AF point using multi-controller (I did a lot of AF point switches for composition).

20D con: big and heavy - this is what you pay for "pro" feeling (honestly, 20D isn't exactly a pro DSLR at all). 50k shutter life (mine is about 40k now). small LCD (1.8"). shutter button failed for me (half press is broken, however the shutter is ok. so I am using AE lock button to do AF now).

km pro: compatible with FA 31 and FA77 (one of the two major reasons I jump into the pentax world), small and light (the other reason). big bright vivid LCD. one click to enlarge reviewed photo (very handy little function).

k20d is superior than canon 20d in almost every aspect, except several problems: slow AF and slow continuous shooting speed in RAW mode. I do not know about high-ISO performance since they differ so much (14MP vs 8MP).

k2000 internal part movement
Posted By terminator

I noticed something strange with my k2000. If I rotate the k2000 body counter-clockwise to vertical position, I can feel that the internal part of the camera is moving down.

It feels like I hold a box with a brick inside, and the brick is slightly smaller than the box. So when rotate the box, the brick inside moves. Anybody else have the same experience? Thanks!

I bought new km/fa31/fa77 off the ebay, and sent in km/fa77 for AF adjustment with paypal receipts. no question was asked. The FA77 is bought from prodigital2000.

K2000 - I wish I had never read the review

I agree.

For me (actually my wife), there are two major shortcomings of k2000: 1) lack of AF selection and confirmation; 2) 4 AA batteries kill the lightweight benefit. I do not care about its in-camera jpeg processing.

The biggest benefit of k2000: it has an AF mount for 3 LEs and all DA pancakes. :)

DPR KM (K2000) Review

DPR has a case to complain about k2000's in-camera jpeg processing. I understand that it is important for P&S users who first get their hand on a DSLR. However, as a sole raw shooter, I always skip over any thing about in-camera jpeg processing for all DSLR reviews at DPR.

As a k2000 owner, I still want to complain the lack of AF confirmation and AF point selection. This is a terrible terrible decision for whatever reason.

Poll: k2000/Km has been out for a little while, what's your thoughts?

I have a k2000. Received it on Dec 26, 2008, sent it to Pentax because of severe front focus on Jan 07, and am still waiting it to come back.

Like NorthPentax, I cannot imagine what the heck Pentax camera designers were thinking when they decided to remove the AF confirmation and AF point selection from k2000. I bought this camera for my wife because of its lightweight and 31LE/77LE. Even as a beginner, she complained about the lacking of these functions. Shooting my boy with k2000 and 31LE wide open becomes virtually impractical because the re-composition tends to make the photo out of focus.

The other complaint goes to the 4 AA batteries. It kills the biggest benefit of this camera - lightweight. If not because Canon did a terrible job to create some lightweight high-quality lens like the LEs and pancakes, I would stick with Canon.

. FA 24-70mm f/2.8 SDM

And of course, an affordable FF body. :)

Of course, I double checked the box, no where could I find the invoice or the warranty card... I know what a Mack warranty card look like. A big disappointment. I hate to leave negative feedback, but it seems that I have no other choice...

Both 31mm FA and 77mm FA show front focus at f/1.8. I shoot my kid most of the time indoor. The photos are virtually unusable because the focus point is nowhere, unless I intentionally back focus.

I get my k2000 flash kit for $350 off the ebay. :D Already sold the kit lens for $65. Now I am trying to sell the kit flash. Anybody interested? :p

I bought my 77mm FA from prodigital. The list claims that there's 7 year mack extended warranty. The lens arrived quickly. However, one and half month passed after numerous communications, I still haven't received my invoice (not even a scanned copy!) nor the mack warranty card.

Got a K2000 kit off the ebay, I am new pentax user from Canon camp. Almost instantly, felt disappointed at its performance while using 31mm FA and 77mm FA - these two lens are the only reason I decided to turn to pentax. Now k2000 and 77mm FA are sent to Pentax for service - severe front focus wide open. Hopefully, after turnaround, the performance will match my 20D and L glasses. Will report the result later.

Your biggest disappointment lens of 2008

For me, it is 31mm FA. I am new to Pentax - coming from Canon camp. From f/1.8 - f/2.5, images are too soft from my point of view. Maybe it is an AF issue - I am using K2000.

I also have a 77mm FA. It has obvious front focus on my K2000. However, the sharpness at the "real" focus point is excellent at f/1.8.
