that is strange as I am not the steadiest camera holder but I have a new 500mm mirror lens that I have been trying out and am getting sharp shots down to 1/20th of a second and lower with a fairly high success rate.

I am very happy with the Kx's SR system.

if you can live with the 35mm range . . .

the 35 ltd macro is one of the best lenses around - very, very versatile and very, very good.

please google it or search these and other forums - you should at least consider it.

I think it would be perfect for what you want and don't think you would be disappointed with it.

it is 'only' f2.8 but with Kx high ISO performance that should not pose any problems.

Are we seeing a pattern? K-x soft with shutter speeds around 1/100 to 1/200?

have very sharp results in that range as well as at other shutter speeds.

I shoot mostly with manual focus lenses but did try the kit lens when I first got the camera and those results were good as well.

I am seeing no problem with sharpness at any shutter speed and the SR seems to work very well.

never - repeat never - leave the DA 35 home - it is an astonishingly good lens. I was just looking through some photos and noticing how good it is and thinking I should use it more.

anything long and good is going to be heavy and expensive to rent and I am not sure if you could rent a sigma 100-300 f4 but it is the one to buy if you can live with the weight IMO.

have you considered a light weight tripod - some of the knock-offs (induro, benro?) are quite good and reasonable in price and weight. SR is nice but for tack sharp photos f8 and a tripod is the way to go, again IMO.

what would it cost to rent a good lens? maybe it would be a significant portion of the purchase price of a tamron 17-50 or 28-75.

have a great time in Hawaii - where exactly are headed?
