I have an ancient Vivitar 500/f6.3 lens manual focus lens.
It is built beautifully from seperable metal sections and weighs a ton. It is 20 inches long after all.
Whilst the picture quality is not on a par with modern lenses, I reckon it is cracking value for the £40 that I paid for it.
Apparently these were meant to be built by Olympus and then badged Vivitar.
Just FYI in case you see one cheap.

I love the look of it.
I won't be running to replace my GX-10 though :D

Is this typical quality for this lens?
If so I am going to run straight to the local store and buy one myself.
Excellent photos - well done

I agree. When I bought my GX-10, there was nothing else in the price range which had anywhere near the features of this camera.
Even now, the Canon 50D and Nikon D300 don't have the level of environment sealing which this camera does - and they are way more expensive.
I would love a faster and (sometimes) more accurate autofocus, but the last SLR I owned was a Practika BC-1, so the GX-10 is heaven.

I agree with your angle of view.
The only other point I had in mind, was if I buy the Sigma 70-200mm lens also, I would find it handy see which lens took the picture.
Of course half the time it would be obvious by the focal length or aperture.

I have to agree with you. In PhotoME it does pick the lens up correctly as a Sigma 100-300mm F4. I am convinced that Adobe are one step behind on the lens code in this case. However, this is just one small niggle in a brilliant program in my opinion.

Great to hear that the problem is solved.
Just in case it helps anyone - on a similar note, I was using my GX-10 last night, and after every shot the camera was making a strange noise.
Then I discovered that I had bracketing multi shot switched on. I was not holding the shutter release down long enough for the second shot to be taken, but the camera sounded as though it was getting ready for the next shutter release.
D'oh :o

What a stunning and FREE program PhotoME is.
I had no idea there was so much hidden EXIF data within the picture file.
It is well worth a look.

I have opened the original RAW format file in PhotoME and it reads correctly as a 100-300mm Sigma lens.
Strange one!

Hi,
I am using Lightroom 2 and it is brilliant for my needs.
The only thing is, when using my Sigma 100-300 F4, it shows up in the metadata as a 70-200mm.
Just wondered if anyone else has this "feature"

Indeed yes. Thanks again to everyone for their replies.
The £100 cashback for K20D with lens ends on 31st Jan, so I will sit on the fence for another 2 or 3 weeks before deciding.
Just for information, the best deal I have seen in the UK is at Digital Depot - £566.68 with Pentax 18-55mm II Lens Kit and free Pentax AF-200FG flashgun(just in case it helps anyone).
I promise that I have no affiliation with the above company :)

Unfortunately I was looking through a different thread when I thought of this question :o
I could not see how to delete the original erroneous thread.
One of the moderators has very kindly deleted it for me.
Just an honest mistake :(

Thank you for the fast replies so far.
I think that I will mull it over for the next couple of days or so.
I had not realised that so many people had asked the same question before - I should have scanned the forum more carefully beforehand :o
Oh...........and a very happy and peaceful New Year to all :)

This reply is probably too far out of date now, but I can confirm that this combination works just fine.

Sorry if this has been covered (ad nauseum) before.
With the current relatively low K20D pricing, do you think it is worth the extra investment over my current K10D?
Actually I have a Samsung GX-10, but it is virtually the same thing.
Any opinions would be heartily welcome :)

After a couple of hundred (or maybe more) photos at various apertures, focal lengths etc etc, I think that 9016330 is OK.
Can't help thinking that I am beginning to look TOO closely at the results though :)

I would like to chalk another one up for SRS.
I just ordered a 12-24mm over the web.
A guy from SRS rang me to let me know that it was out of stock, and he didn't want anyone to be disappointed over Christmas.
Great customer service :)

Wow - 4 replies already. Many thanks to all for the insight.
I think that having read your replies, I will hold off the 17-70mm.
This means that I do not have to rush to beat the cashback ending date (31st Jan 2009).
I may wait until the reviews of the new DA*55 F1.4 comes out, and then make a decision whether to buy that or the DA*16-50mm.
I know this throws more confusion into the equation with a prime instead of a zoom
Cheers

Hi all,
I have been lurking for ages, but here at last is my first post.
I have just pressed the button for a 12-24mm f4 DA ED AL IF lens (the current UK £50 cashback helps with this one) and I am just considering either adding the Pentax DA 17-70 f4 AL (IF) SDM (a further £50 cashback) or the Pentax 16-50mm F2.8 DA* ED.
I just wondered if anyone had any views regarding the 17-70mm versus the 16-50mm. I have the Samsung GX10 (hoping this will not anger anyone )
I already have the kit 18-55mm and the 50-200mm, as well as the beautiful Sigma 100-300mm f4 EX IF DG.
Many thanks to all for an excellent and informative forum BTW.
