Snow is something a little more unfamiliar to me, a native South Carolinian. I love what it does to transform a landscape, but less so the effects on my hands and feet.

Doing a wedding- input on gear

I've shot about ten weddings, mostly simpler events, but still, it's a fast paced high stress environment. You need to know your gear front to back, know exactly what to expect. I hate to be a naysayer, but try to use as little "new" technique as possible, ie off camera flash if that's something you're learning. Personally, I use on camera flash and bounce. If you can, get to the venue beforehand and practice, practice, practice.

I'd check eBay and the classifieds for a used PTTL flash, I scored a used AF540FGZ for a little over $100.

If at all you can manage to have an assistant, they make life much easier. They can focus on a bit of hair being out of place, etc while you worry about focus, composition and exposure. Sit down with the bride and come up with a list of shots they would like, ie bride and groom with his parents, just the bride with grandparents, etc. It's very easy to forget in the heat of the moment, but a list helps tremendously.

Most of all, don't stress out too much, that'll stifle productivity and creativity. Weddings can be a fast paced blast. Have fun!

Came across this Sigma 70mm f/2.8 macro for $160 and just couldn't resist. Super sharp lens and really fairly quick focusing with the limit switch on.

I really enjoyed my time in the Poconos this October. I was able to visit several waterfalls, but this still manages to be my favorite picture from the outing. This is in George W. Childs Park, just upstream from Factory Falls.

George W Childs Park

I regret not having an ND filter with me instead of stopping down completely.

I like the pictures, love the area. I was through there on a motorcycle trip about a month ago, but it was so foggy, I couldn't see the river from there.

If I would change anything, I would have panned left a bit on the first shot. A bit heavy on the right side, but great color and detail in the river.

I was up on top of an apartment building the other night, and was taken with the cars coming around this curve. I just had to come back and photograph it at night:

I tried my hand at a few panoramas, and I feel like this one turned out decent, but I'm not sure whether I totally like it or whether it is missing something(s).

Help me out!

I hope it isn't raining next week!

At a smaller, local cruise-in car show yesterday in Aiken, SC.

Some real nice cars there, I just wish there would have been less people intruding on my shots, and it was about 7:00pm so the sun was at a low, harsh angle, at least some turned out...

All pics taken with K10D, DA 18-55mm kit lens, polarizer, and AF540FGZ.

Machinery Barnwell Airshow

Not bragging, but I was comparing my pics with a buddy's who was there with me. He took his XSi with Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L to the airshow, whereas I took my 18-55 and 150mm Super Tak. Surprisingly, my pictures blew his out of the water. We were both shooting same apertures, ISO's, etc, and my pictures just were sharper and more contrasty, whereas his were hazy. My18-55 shots were with a polarizer, but still...

He has twice as much in just his lens as I do in my K10D, D-BG2 grip, 18-55mm and Super Takumar 150mm f/4, but yet my pictures came out better in the end... AF? Who needs stinkin AF?

Pentax is truly a bargain...

The first and third are. The second is perhaps oversharpened.

Is HDR a problem?

I don't like overdone HDR, but I thought these were still subtle enough. I felt that creating these in HDR didn't change reality as much as it made it possible for me to capture the true exposure of the scene, one that exceeds the limits of my camera.
